AI available for FS9 ?

AI sounds come from .wav files in ...\FS9\Sound.

The files have names beginning with ai_ and xai_.

Joe

I have WOAI aircraft files in my FS9 aircraft folder.

I am looking for the the software entry inside each WOAI Aircraft Folder which specifies which sound file to use for that specific aircraft.

Do you happen to know where it is?

Hi Guys,

I believe they use generic sounds in the FS9 sounds directory - all jet aircraft use one sound file - all turbo props use another - all props use another - etc etc etc... There are some improvements around but none that are really great... There was a very old package called hot "hot seat fx" or something that had a bunch of fans who swore by it but I never had the opportunity to try it... I wish we had something to make the AI Jets truly thunder down the runway...

Scott

I would like to know "which" FS9 sound file is used for each AI aircraft.

Does each AI aircraft type specify to MSFS "which" sound file (name) to use form the MSFS Sound Folder??

For FSX, using a MyTraffic AI aircraft ... its sound file is defined (screenshot).

... this is what I am looking for in FS9 with WOAI but cannot determine how tit is done.

This is a difference between FS9 and FSX.

You cannot do in FS9 what you can do in FSX.

We have little to no ability to customize sound files for AI in FS9.

Actually one time I found no AI traffic aircraft for Belavia Tu-154M, so I had to take the Project Tupolev Tu-154M and assign it to the traffic (I know it's frame heavy to use a regular complex addon as a traffic aircraft but Belavia is a small airline and usually you don't see more than 7 of their planes). However when I see the Project Tupolev Tu-154 as ai aircraft all it's custom tupolev sounds in it's sound folder are not playing and instead it's playing the AI sounds.

I have customized my ai sound folder for more realistic sound, which makes them at least roar down the runway.

That is what I am wondering about ... how do you know which FS9 sound file(s) an AI aircraft is currently using?

In the WOAI aircraft folder I do not see a software statement (like inside a cfg file) that points to the FS9 file to be used.

look for the sounds named "ai" in the beginning, for example ai_lgjet01. But there is also AI sounds beginning with "XAI" instead of "AI".

I have customized mine to math real airplanes, (replaced sounds for all of them). You could do the same.

How they are choosen is a mystery, I suppose they're just random. As you can hear sometimes a very loud B737-800, and then suddenly another B737-800 is quiet. (taken in mind both 737-800 are of the same AI model and airline.

It's a dilemma really...

Even if you put a sound folder to the AI aircraft, this sound will not play but instead the default (or modified) AI sounds will.

As stated above, there are a few sounds in the main SOUND folder of FS9 that are used by the AI aircraft. Theoretically they choose within the sound types randomly, but I think they actually just use one of them. For example, ai_lgjet01.wav is used by the large AI jets. There is NO sound system as can be found in FSX - there just isn't one!

Hope this helps,

Hi, I can only recommend to try it. You can still purchase it (and try it before buying). There is no technical support any more as I know, but there is still support for registering/licensing items for the software. Beware of that it only works with Windows XP! You can read more here:

I followed the advice to customize AI sounds; and although there is no sound set for a Tu-154 (which of course sounds much more realistic with FSHotSFX) it is a delight to hear the difference between a starting 737 Classic and a 737 NG, for instance. I even made a startup sound for a DC-3 from a real recording...

Try it; you won't be disappointed...

Hi I've been reading this post, and have tried to improve the volume of the default sounds which by the way just increase the volume. I bought FSHot Seat and found it lacking for what I wanted it for. Which was the roar of a

AI jet taking off etc. I am wondering can one alais a jet sound to an AI aircraft? I have an extensive library of non AI aircraft sounds available any ideas on this? Robin

I have uploaded my AI sounds which I use, they are real life sounds of airplanes who flew in Russia. Still it has the limitations of FS9 like no start up sounds etc. All the turboprop airplanes will now sound like an Antonov An-24RV. So in case you don't want your AI to sounds like classic airplanes, don't download. Jet airplanes will sound like Tupolevs as well.

I have roaring jets taking off with FSHotSFX, I wonder why you don't?

To make those sounds louder, turn down your main Sound slider (in FS Options), and then turn up your master sound volume in Windows.

Hi Tom ?,

Quick and dirty - what's the purpose of that program again - it does more than AI sounds right ? Is it worth trying this late in the game ???

Regards,

Scott

Do you allow me to answer instead of Tom:

The program adds startup-, flyby- and landing(thrust reverser)-sounds to all AI aircraft. For instance at startup, you will hear the stock AI sounds when a plane taxies, but if it takes off, you will hear spooling up and roaring engines while the planes accelerates until the sound fades away in distance.

There are standard sounds associated to the AI planes according to engine number and weight. But you can also customize single AI aircraft, as I mentioned above with the various types of B737s; the needed sound packages are available at the avsim file library. There are even Toms AI propliner sounds... you may want to hear them at least spotting at PANC or LOWS...

Furthermore, FSHotSFX adds sounds inside the cockpit, as wind, fuel pumps etc., but these are just "nice to have" in my opinion. The software is a kind of downgrade of FSHotSeat, which brings even more features as copilot voices, but these weren't important for me at all.

Is it worth trying this late in the game ???

I think it is. In 2012 finally I introduced two main upgrades to FS2004 - AES and FSHotSFX. For me FSHotSFX was the more decisive of these upgrades in terms of immersion.

Harald

P. S.: You can download FSHotSFX from http://fshotseat.com...s.asp#FSHotSFXand try it without buying in a demo mode at KMDW.
