VATSIM Paine Field Deliveries

Featured Replies

I am one of the controllers for the Seattle ARTCC on VATSIM, and while I in no way speak for them or coordinate events, I work closely with those who do. Once the T7 is out (whenever that is), would it be supported by the online community to do a delivery flights out of KPAE event? I think it could be great fun to distribute the bird to the Virtual Airlines of the world on a more "official" level. I'm sure if there was enough support, we could organize a fully-staffed shift or two.

How long would an event take to organize? I think something on the order of an "Iron Mike" week would be a good idea, or at least a "24 hours online" type of thing over a weekend like they are running in Austria currently as I type.

Of course the "Iron Mike" type events tend to be fairly sparse with ATC in the 'off' hours of the likes of 3am etc, and the "24 hours online" type events need lots of organization to make sure they don't suffer the same fate.

The Austrian event had people meet up physically in one location bringing their PC's along so that there was a bit more community to it (More likley to stay up for your midnight to 5am shift if all your buddies are there to provide support/peer pressure so you don't log off and go to bed).

Depending on how long lead time existed it would be a great idea to do it this way, so you don't focus on a 2 or 3 hour long window leaving international people missing out.

A wider event focus with San Fransisco Radio (Oakland Oceanic) providing some ATC for Pacific Ocean crossings would be nice to aspire to, but I don't think it'd be feasable to man without huge forward planning on the order of Cross the Pond (atlantic). Vatsim pilots really aspire to having ATC available at both ends of their flights, so Seattle DEL, GND, TWR, APP CTR and the Pacific Oceanic FSS could all be up and pumping for 24 hours, but without anyone on the other side of the pacific would mean most Vatsim pilots would end up plugging it down to KSFO, rather than a deserted RJAA or NZAA.

- speaking of cross the pond... can you imagine the first Vatsim Cross the Pond flyin after PMDG 777 release? ... drool...

This is a great idea. I sometimes find myself leaving Boeing in Seattle and ferrying aircraft.

I'm a controller at CZYZ and we just had our 24-hour real ops event and it was a great success. The key to driving traffic to your zone is to make sure it looks attractive on Vatspy or whatever. Full staffing obviously works best. Once you build it, they will come.

Although I would certainly intend to support such an event, I doubt whether my initial skills will stretch to an across-the-pond delivery of a B777 soon after release. Perhaps it would be better to have it after a few months experience with the bird?

Cheers, Richard

Does anyone know of some great payware quality scenery for Paine Field

Thanks

From my personal Vatsim experience (member of Vatsim-Germany [VACC-SAG]) you can attract more traffic by letting users know beforehand that you will be online at a specific time. In many european divisions you have a "booking-system" for controllers which can be seen on the division-homepages. I usually check in the morning what controllers will be online and plan my flights for the evening accordingly. In many other countries such a system does not exist. I know there are also arguments against it (mostly that it triggers negative reactions if the booked station is cancelled or terminates early) but I think both sides would overall profit from it. It is sad that so many station suddenly show up but don't get the traffic they deserve!

@ Stuart: I don't think there is a specific, decent add-on-scenery for Paine field, but using FTX KPAE, KBFI, KMWH (for testing!) and KRNT (for 737!) are significantly enhanced.
