New ATI 12.11 Beta drivers.

Featured Replies

Just a heads up to anyone with a ATI 7xxx series. I got really great improvement using the above mentioned drivers with my 7870( i5-2550). I usually got between 9-15 fps at KJFK with all settings to the right except for autogen and complexity that I always leave at dense. After trying the new drivers I am getting between 18 and 29 with addon traffic( 45 on ga and 45 on commercial).I also use rex essential. I hope someone else can try them and post results

I have confirmed that the beta 12.11 drivers give a substantial boost to FSX. I will do more testing later but it seems that the shader disadvantage ati had may have been resolved with this driver update. More testing is needed though.

System Specs

Intel i-7 950 4.0 ghz

AMD 7950 5760x1080 Eyefinity ( window mode)

12gb RAM

FSX installed on SSD

REX essentials

Shader 3.0 mod

Lol...

It figures something like this would happen when I drop some coin on nVidia cards. Oh well... I am now part of the "Dark Side". No going back now...

Just updated to the beta drivers.

FRAPS is telling me no difference. But my eye is saying its more fluid, I guess that’s just the placebo effect. Ill do further testing tomorrow, getting late here.

Thanks for posting this though I never check for updates

Please do some methodical benchmarks. If this is true, then AMD cards might be in our future!

Just because I sometimes come across as an Nvidia fanb0i doesn't mean I am not open to new things.

This version of ATI drivers really messed things up.

As this is my last day with ATI/AMD GPUs I figured I would give it a go and update. I usually skip updates because I simply HATE updating ATI drivers. It's like punching myself in the face or smashing my face on a curb... it always hurts and does lots of damage.

For reference: I was running 12.3 drivers, stable, on CrossFire'd 6950 2GB Dirt 3 Editions with shaders unlocked. After updating to 12.11 beta the Aero theme is not functioning on Windows 7. After trying the troubleshooting I discovered that these drivers tell Windows that these cards do not support Aero themes. Hmm... They have for almost a year without issue... Really? ATI released a non-WDDM driver release?

I regret doing this update and am now really looking forward to my EVGA GTX 680 FTWs. I was thinking of slapping the 6950s into wifey's new Z77 build...but now...eh.

Goodbye ATI...Goodbye AMD...

Sigh.

And now I am right back to where I was.... NVIDIA FANB0I I AM

Sorry Dan with your problems. This driver update will only increase performance on 7xxx series AMD cards. It has no effect on any other AMD graphic cards. When I get sometime I will do some more in-depth testing.

Yes...

Seems like it. I simply cannot get the damn thing to revert to its old settings. System restore time I guess.

Frustrated? Oh yeah...

I do try to keep an open mind but man this burns.

According to AMD's driver updates page, the 12.11 beta is also available for ATI Radeon HD 6xxx cards too..

I'm still using 12.8, and have just seen the newer 12.10, so am downloading this now to try it out...

Anybody else using the HD6xxx cards tried it?

Your experiences with AMD drivers are similar to mine. I wish I had the money for an NVIDIA card.

This is exactly why I always reccomend Nvidia.... I used a 5870 last year and couldn't stand the darned thing.

AMD's hardware is great, but the software side is terrible. I really wish they would hire a completely new driver team.

I wouldn't like to support NVIDIA because of their overboard marketing, monetizing and game optimising, however that's the only way if you don't want to pull your hair out.
