October 24, 201213 yr Yes. I also can confirmed. ATI5870 have 5-8 fps more then usaual. Nice, but How ATI did it better? Ivo Crni
October 24, 201213 yr Author The thing is this drivers are for the 7xxx series. According to review sites, AMD figured how to improve gfx shaders and it shows in the new drivers. The most improved card though is the 7870 that has been improved by about 10%. I have the 7870 so I saw huge improvements. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/23.html This version of ATI drivers really messed things up. As this is my last day with ATI/AMD GPUs I figured I would give it a go and update. I usually skip updates because I simply HATE updating ATI drivers. It's like punching myself in the face or smashing my face on a curb... it always hurts and does lots of damage. For reference: I was running 12.3 drivers, stable, on CrossFire'd 6950 2GB Dirt 3 Editions with shaders unlocked. After updating to 12.11 beta the Aero theme is not functioning on Windows 7. After trying the troubleshooting I discovered that these drivers tell Windows that these cards do not support Aero themes. Hmm... They have for almost a year without issue... Really? ATI released a non-WDDM driver release? I regret doing this update and am now really looking forward to my EVGA GTX 680 FTWs. I was thinking of slapping the 6950s into wifey's new Z77 build...but now...eh. Goodbye ATI...Goodbye AMD... Sigh.
October 24, 201213 yr Yes it does seem the upgrade has some benefits for ATI HD7xxx products. I am glad to see ATI getting their stuff together as far as drivers. The frustrating part about owning ATI cards has been the likelihood that upgrading drivers will have a strong negative consequence for system stability, non-gaming application performance, or in the very least hours of troubleshooting when the OS is "harmed" by the upgrade. I have always owned ATI cards and I have been gaming/building PCs as a hobby since I was very young and the rule for me has been...upgrade only if absolutely necessary. I hope I can get Win7 "fixed" and get back to normal with these new cards. Daniel Fernandez
October 24, 201213 yr Author Omg! Even better for me now. I overclocked my i5-2550k to 4.2ghz then did a name defrag with o&o. I raised my scenery complexity to very dense and left autogen to dense. my frame rates short up to an average of 25. it dipped once for a second to 14 when panning cockpit view on lvd 767. now I can buy some PMDG products ( MD11) end month and see if it stays that smooth. by the way I am also using enbseries by Nick N. and custom afcad file for jfk. Sorry to hear about your problems Dan and I hope you get them figured out. I am going to test everything to the right and see how taxing that is
October 25, 201213 yr I tried the latest ATI CCC v12.10 tonight, and sadly it just kep crashing my FSX... Everything else worked fine except for FSX, didnt see any benefit thought as I'm already running almost everything maxed out at 30fps stable day or night flying, but, I dont see what the complaining is about with recovering though? I un-installed everything ATI, the whole lot, then simply re-installed the 12.8 version and everything is back to normal.. I would hardly call it anything other than a quick remove/replace... No headaches, heck, it even restore my eyefinity desktop and the location of every icon on my desktop too... So, I just dont need to worry about the 12.10, suits me fine, but if they can improve it, sweet, but this is to be expected in the first few days though, not every configuration can be catered for right out of the box I guess.. Just trying to put a silver lining on the ATI haters... My 6990 works awesome, and I'm enjoying it... The more I poke about with its settings and learn about it, read up about it, the more its "Not so bad at all" Still, if it were not for all the haters, then I might not have got such a bargain, so thanks lads :Big Grin: Richard... Use my computer for a month and then pull your hair out with atikmdag.sys BSODs and video playback problems.
October 25, 201213 yr Really? Use my computer for a month and then pull your hair out with atikmdag.sys BSODs and video playback problems. Feel free to drop me a note with a list of the software you have installed (Not the FSX stuff).. Might be able to make things a little better.. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
October 25, 201213 yr Feel free to drop me a note with a list of the software you have installed (Not the FSX stuff).. Might be able to make things a little better.. The BSOD is an atikmdag.sys one. I get video playback problems every alternate driver release. The only software that's causing me those problems is AMD's drivers. I saw no improvement even after formatting my computer.
October 25, 201213 yr Lol... It figures something like this would happen when I drop some coin on nVidia cards. Oh well... I am now part of the "Dark Side". No going back now... :LMAO:
October 25, 201213 yr Right, and what happened when you completely uninstalled the drivers and installed the previous version? Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂

I saw no improvement even after formatting my computer. I've been using Radeon cards for the last 4 years, never seen a single BSOD.

I saw no improvement even after formatting my computer. I've been using Radeon cards for the last 4 years, never seen a single BSOD. Same here, but then in about the past 9 years, starting with the 9600 Pro. Never seen an ATI/AMD card related BSOD or had notable problems with drivers. Not even before that with the ATI Rage Pro 8MB . Going through about 5 PC setups in that period. Not saying it's flawless, and not a bad word about Nvidia cards since I've only owned one and it worked just as well as the ATI cards. Just saying that there might be a more serious problem going on if you're getting constant BSOD's. Ever tested the card in a different PC? Tried a different card?
October 25, 201213 yr There was performance gain with the new beta driver ATI in FSX and P3D. Regarding NVIDIA or ATI, the ATI I use more than nine years, no problems. The problems reported are very "strange", there are certainly many other causes. João Alfredo It is impossible to please Greeks and Trojans É impossivel agradar Gregos e Troianos
October 25, 201213 yr Add me to the list of ATI users without problems...ever. There is something else afoot if you're having BSODs EDIT: I forgot. I don't concern myself with framerates, I just look out of the window. Is it smooth? If so, all's good, just get on and fly. This new driver seems to make a smidgen of difference, but meh. Too close to call. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
October 25, 201213 yr Not everyone with AMD cards have problems. But if you look that up, you'll see that many users do have issues with their drivers, and BSODs is one of the problems. Whatever, no use in arguing about this. The HD 5770 is the last AMD card I'm buying.
