October 27, 201213 yr Or maybe we tried it, found it buggy with a confusing and klunky interface that didn't make any sense, and that it didn't play well with other addons and software, trying to do too many things at once, and doesn't really offer much over AS or REX from what we *could* get working. I am curious to know. Which add ons didn't you get it to work with? Works just fine here. Heck, it works better than anything else. There is quite a bit that I miss from Active Sky as regards to winds aloft reports and also descent forecasts. I agree with the missing forecast winds aloft. But it will be implemented. It's something that's being worked on, as I am sure you know. The most important thing for me is to be able to have true weather according to METAR. Nothing like conducting an IFR approach in the soup and popping out under a solid cover just above minima. Love it. That's what the other weather engines never managed to do for me. Daniel Nilsson
October 27, 201213 yr Hmm, what's so special about Opus compared to AS2012. For what it matters I prefer AS2012 over REX. Just curious, I may try it. Thanks, Dirk. Love it. That's what the other weather engines never managed to do for me. Sounds good. I don't need multi-monitor and views stuff for Opus's wx engine, do I? Btw, I'm happy with my EZDOK cameras and I won't compromise them. Thanks, Dirk. Forgot to ask, can it run on the client pc? Thanks, Dirk.
October 27, 201213 yr Hmm, what's so special about Opus compared to AS2012 AS2012 is not bad, but with Opus you get more than just some pretty clouds (that tend to disappear when you get there). With AS2012 there's never been a time where I was concerned about the weather when conducting the approach. I always could make visual contact with the runway environment even though the forcast was category III approach weather. With Opus, I have to seriously consider my options as to diverting to an alternate. The other day I flew into LZIB and METAR called for 22203KT 0200 R31/150D R22/M0150D FG 05/04 Q1023. Well, couldn't make that approach, so had to go to the alternate. Ceilings and vis are spot on. So much more immersive. That's how I feel about it. Daniel Nilsson

October 27, 201213 yr Downloading to purchase If you're not happy with Opus, I will eat my hat. ^_^ Seriously, you won't regret it. I went on a leap of faith and I've never looked back. Daniel Nilsson
October 27, 201213 yr Commercial Member One question regarding Opus - I can't find anywhere did Opus have an option to download weather from july 2012 like in AS2012? I don't want to fly in November, I'm a summer guy. Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

October 27, 201213 yr Commercial Member Nice, thanks. Anyway I downloaded a demo of Opus and it did something to the weather in FSX, but I'm not sure cause the demo doesn't have a weather engine according to the info on their site. Shame if doesn't have, cause only way you can purchase Opus is to see the weather engine by yourself, they could limit the demo on one area or airport. Shame if doesn't have From OpusFSX Getting Strted Single PC.pdf: Enable Live Weather Engine if required. This option is available in a limited form on the free demonstration software. The LWE is restricted to 128km (80 miles) in all directions and weather updating only whilst your aircraft is on the ground. Dirk. If you're not happy with Opus, I will eat my hat. ^_^ From Getting Started pdf: Live Weather is enabled on the server configuration so there is no need to tick the checkbox here. The option to run on the Client instead of the Server will be implemented in a future version I'm not buying OpusFSX, alas the above is a showstopper at this stage. I have just too much running on the server to take care of, so no OpusFSX until wx on the Client is implemented. Cheers, Dirk.
October 27, 201213 yr Commercial Member I think I will give Opus a try, after all Flight 1 has their amazing refund policy so if I can't see any improvement from AS2012 I can get my money back. If this does that users are reporting and makes especially low visibility conditions way more realistic I think it's worth it, I have always hated the way how you can see through fog layer while above it. // Ok, first impressions are really promising. I tested St Maarten and some random airport in US west coast, both of those had weather that completely matched what AS2012 weather map said. I have never before seen as realistic looking cloud cover, even after climbing overcast clouds seem to stay really nicely instead of disappearing, also reduced visibility & fog seems to work way better than with AS2012. So far very very good.
October 28, 201213 yr I tried reading through the documentation for setting up a multi computer system, and I'm beyond confused. I want to install the Wx engine on my laptop (client) and have it update weather for FSX on my desktop (server) which would also run the Live camera controls. Is this possible? Or is the multi-network functionality only for running multiple copies of FSX across different machines? AJ Pongress

I'm not buying their Opus because of that and I know it's a long way to go yet before the implementation, winds aloft etc. They should have put this in big red letters on the product description page instead of burying it in the documents. Dirk.
October 28, 201213 yr know it's a long way to go yet before the implementation, winds aloft etc If you call 2 to 3 weeks a long way to go. Maybe if you go to the Opus forum at Flight 1 you won't have to just guess. Check the coming soon thread. Opus running along side FSX is not even noticeable. in fact I gained more removing EZCA. It has a very small footprint. Give them time, they update almost everyday. Until then. Dirk. PS: And I'm not switching from EZCA to the apparent reasons.
