November 1, 201213 yr Does it reproduce the fully overcast skies? I mean fully Yes, you truly can't see thru the clouds stay with AS 2012 textures or some other textures? I have both AS 2012 and REX Essential and I'm currently using AS 2012 textures. I use REXE at the moment. Works like a charm. I have both AS2012 and REX Essential, but haven't tried AS2012 for textures yet. If you have both, see for yourself which one you like better. Daniel Nilsson
November 1, 201213 yr I use AS textures with Opus. That's just personal preference. With AS, I set the cloud density at 10 in the cfg. 12 wasn't worth the performance drop. With Opus, I wound that back to 8 (ie, the max slider position) and still get more cloud coverage than AS at 10. Mike Dryden
November 2, 201213 yr Commercial Member overcast Is this the sort of thing you are after? This is totally default FSX and textures, +IFs "weather engine", so a real world "weather program" (heehee) should be able to do it... My screenshots page at FSN Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
November 2, 201213 yr Commercial Member One thing though I'm wondering about is what textures to use to get the most... Flame me but I think the FSX default ones look most realistic :} By the way, I don't understand why REX is not included in the poll. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
November 2, 201213 yr By the way, I don't understand why REX is not included in the poll. Because their weather engine is a bit of a dog. But the Textures are what makes Rex popular. November 2, 201213 yr Moderator Flame me but I think the FSX default ones look most realistic :} LOL, I still think the freeware HDEv2 clouds at 1024 look better than any of the REX clouds. Although as far as payware is concerned, I think FEX clouds look more realistic than REX ones. Something about the REX clouds just look like they have too much shadowing baked in and dont really blend that well with the sky. Although I wont say that I think the default FSX clouds look better than any of them. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

November 2, 201213 yr I currently run with a mix: FEX clouds, REX sky textures, Opus weather generation. Descending into a cloud layer, then breaking out with less than a 1000' to go on an approach is amazing. It is more realistic than anything I ever say ASE manage (I have AS2012, but I have never got around to installing it, then along came Opus...) I am currently looking for the sweet spot configuration in terms of performance (aren't we all)... but I feel I am spending more time at the controls than in the configs these days... November 2, 201213 yr I will wait to see what Essential + is going to bring, if there's no change in the weather engine, I'm pulling the trigger on Opus. Jacek G. You mean to tell me you never descended through a cloud layer onto 1000ft vis in REX or AS? Where are all the screenshots of Opus vs AS - same place time of day etc. I'm looking at my credit card and it's not convinced yet. Sinking air <1Nm vis, complete 2000ft cover FSX+IF. I know what'll happen, I hope not, but I expect I'll throw it on top of my £3000 pile of addons and go back to IF anytime weather. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
November 2, 201213 yr Commercial Member Why don't you just try it yourself, after all you can easily get your money back thanks to awesome Flight 1 refund policy.
November 2, 201213 yr Commercial Member Yes, IF is a F1 product too, but will they let Hamilton beat Button or are there team tactics? Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

November 2, 201213 yr Commercial Member Yes but the free trial says does not include weather. Anyway I invite someone to run the same flight in REX, AS, and Opus with the same textures, default is best, and take some shots. I didn't find REX or AS any better/worse than each other and both fantastic value for textures, both have descents onto poor vis through cloud cover, both have stratus clouds for fog and alternatives. I don't think it's fair to not include the REX vote. If you have a problem with REX or AS your problem is the "actual" weather is being represented, not more cloud cover so it looks nice. I've seen shots with REX/AS/Opus they all look the same, maybe a touch more fog around in opus. IF does more than those three put together in the weather/environment section. I'll get back to work on the IF modifications and the real world weather flights, but personally I like to fly at any time, so I've got some neat ideas to come.
