January 18, 201313 yr Hi, @Mac: It means that the exe.xml file as specified in the default profile for Prepar3D can indeed not be found at the location as indicated. Could it be that you are running SimLauncher remotely? If so, you need to set the folders in the preferences to the correct remote locations. Can you send me the simlauncher.ini file and the simlauncher.log file please? After you send the .ini file to me, you can delete the .ini file and start from scratch. In theory that should work. @Mike: Thanks for your nice words! The missing 'r' is due to your display being set to a higher DPI setting (higher than 96). I will correct that in the next version. thanks, Maarten Maarten Boelens ([m][a:][R][t][ʏ][n]) Developer of SimLauncherX
January 19, 201313 yr Hi Maarten, at first, thank you very much for this wonderful tool saving me plenty of time. One very valuable addition was the FTX setting - how often did I start the simulator without having switched to the proper region. Now, the menu entry alone remindes me there's still something left to do. The same goes for the IFRonly=0 fix. If I may ask for a quite minor change, this would concern the Desktop Icon. My Desktop backgroud is solid black (has been forever I can recall). See the issue? Maybe you can find another Icon which can be distinguished on a black background, too. January 19, 201313 yr Hi Michael, Thank you for your kind words and I will change the icon in the next version. If you have any other request, don't hesitate to ask. Maarten Maarten Boelens ([m][a:][R][t][ʏ][n]) Developer of SimLauncherX
January 22, 201313 yr A small bug that I have discovered. I've changed SimLauncher to use metric (kilograms). When I click the airplane loadout button, the radio button is correctly set to Kilograms. However, the weight is displayed in pounds. For example, next to pilot it sais 170, even though Kilograms is selected. If I click Kilograms again, it changes to 77. I've also found the altimeter to be completely off when I start a flight, but I just press B and it corrects itself. -
January 22, 201313 yr Hello Maarten is there any where I can download the older versions,I do not seem able to select to run P3d in legacy mode in preferences any longer .in set preferences you could browse to a folder ,it displayed all files ,folders in my G:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D ,now when you browse for folder it no longer shows files etc ,only seems to show folders there seems to be lots of files no longer displayed ,or am I missing something ,hope you can understand what I'm trying to say many thanks for a really wonderful program peter
January 22, 201313 yr Hi, @JimmyG: thanks for reporting! The weight unit handling will be fixed in v7.7 and the altimeter for new flights will be set to 29.92 or to the current QNH if metar data is available. @Peter: you missed the fact that I introduced so called 'profiles' to support people like you that want to be able to quickly switch from one configuration to another: e.g. quickly switch from 'legacy mode' to 'normal mode' with Prepar3D, or quickly switch from one .cfg file to another. There's a listbox at the bottom centre of the main window that enables you to select a profile of edit the profiles. It's there that you can select your startup program and configuration files. If this concept is not clear to you, please drop me an e-mail. thanks, Maarten Maarten Boelens ([m][a:][R][t][ʏ][n]) Developer of SimLauncherX
March 21, 201313 yr Hi Maarten I have always used Ken Salter's Alacrity program with FSX and now P3D. As you may know it shuts down backround programs and Services then launches utilities e.g.TrackIR etc Pre P3D it used to launch FSX but now obviously I want it to launch your terrific program. Alacrity monitors a nominated program and when that is closed it closes the other utilities and restores Windows to its previous condition. Unfortunately if I include Simlauncher in this Alacrity process P3D boots incredibly slowly. Many, many minutes instead of about 1 minute. It doesn't matter if Simlauncher is the monitored program or not. I've tested every combination and I'm pretty sure about this. Can you think what might be cauisng this? At the moment I'm launching Simlauncher manually after Alacrity has done its work - but it would be nice to go back to a fully automated process! Cheers Chris
April 17, 201313 yr I started using this for FSX recently and what a fantastic tool. Many thanks Maarten, it's clever people like you that make this hobby what it is. Could I make one suggestion? No clue how feasible it is: To have the software to "save" either a favourite or even the last used gate for the airports. Let me explain: I always have the preferred gates I like to start at some airports. Plus, many VAs have their own gates or areas on the terminals. Often, I need to open the airport parking chart to figure out where to put my aircraft at the start of a flight. If the launcher would "remember" I have last used gate 109 at Heathrow (for example) when I choose Heathrow, that would be amazing. Of course, then one could always change from that to whatever else, but it'd save time and hassle for those who use always the same gate at each airport, but who fly from a number of different airports. Many thanks again, keep it up!
May 27, 201313 yr Maarten, I am running SimLauncher on a remote machine (on my LAN). I am trying to get it to start P3D on my simulator machine. If I first Map the P3D drive to my SimLauncher machine and point SimLauncher to the mapped drive for all of the confiuration files then I am (sometimes) able to get the Startup program line filled in, but when I try to start P3D it appears that SimLauncer tries to start P3D on the local machine (where it doesn't exist). So nothing happens. On the other hand, if I don't map the P3D drive and instead point SimLauncher to all the configuration files on the network using the usual \\ remote machine\ C\P3D syntax then SimLauncher at least recognizes that P3D is on a different machine but the line for the startup program is grayed out and I can't browse to the P3D.exe file to point SimLauncher at it. Can you explain in detail how to get SimLauncher to control the remote machine on my LAN which runs P3D? May 27, 201313 yr Hi Peter, Unfortunately, You cannot start FSX/P3D from a remote machine. It's a Windows limitation. You have to start FSX/P3D manually on the machine on which the simulator is installed. SimLauncher will however detect when the simulator is up and running and you will be able to send flight(plan)s across. thanks, Maarten Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Maarten Boelens ([m][a:][R][t][ʏ][n]) Developer of SimLauncherX
May 28, 201313 yr Maarten, Thanks for your quick response. I guess I can live with SimLauncher not starting P3D on a remote machine. But I'm still having problems because it seems that SimLauncher does not like to be pointed to the Prepar3d.exe file on the remote machine and I get an error message that says: "Error in Prapar3D profile 'Default': startup program not specified" When I check the SimLauncher.ini file the startup program IS correctly specified. The .... button is grayed out on the Edit Prepar3D Profiles page so I can't enter the path to the Prepar3d.exe file nor any other .exe file for that matter. Therefore, I'm unable to get SimLauncher to load any flight even if Prepar3d is already running on the remote machine. Could this be a bug in your latest update, or is it something with my configuration? Thank you. Peter.
May 28, 201313 yr Hi Peter, Can you please contact me directly (e-mail address can be found in the readme.pdf or in the about box) so I can send you a modified version for you to test? In the meantime: can you delete the simlauncher.ini file completely so SimLauncher can build a new one from scratch? I also noticed that you have a very strange mapping of the Z drive. thanks, Maarten Maarten Boelens ([m][a:][R][t][ʏ][n]) Developer of SimLauncherX
August 7, 201312 yr I have this problem that with some OrbX airports, it won't read the parking locations correctly. For example, Darrington works, but not Concrete. It places me in the forest: Also, there's only one parking location in SimLauncher, but multiple ones inside P3D. It doesn't seem to read the locations from the add-on. I have the same problem at some other OrbX airports while others work fine. If I disable OrbX, you can see that it is in fact using the default parking location: -
August 7, 201312 yr I have a bit similar problems, but that may be due the makerunways, which reads the scenery based on scenery.cfg. It probably depends, though, what areas you have enabled from FTX central and what your scenery library order is, when make runways compiles the necessary files. SimLauncher just shows the data that makerunways has formed. To me, this is no biggie. If plane is mispositioned, I choose correct parking position from menu and as the plane is already in the approximate area, it loads in a breeze.
