Love the weather engine, HATE the Live Camera

Featured Replies

Hi Cheryl,

To be perfectly honest I tried for about an hour after I downloaded the software. I printed out the Live Camera documentation, because viewing it online was way to hard. So after printing it I tried with a GA plane to get the camera view and just could not figure out how to test each view. But I'll try it again this weekend when I have more time. I have other questions, but I'll wait until I have the documentation in front of me...

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Jeroen,

Thanks for your help with the beta testing so far. Can't blame you for wanting to fly instead of doing any more beta testing though!

There is a bit of tweaking involved getting TIR to work with the various betas, usually it should just involve modifying the OpusFSX scan rate. As you know you can continue to try the betas for the features other than Live Camera.

Hi Ray,

Make sure you download the latest Live Camera pdf from our website, it has some examples of how to set up views.

Thanks

Cheryl

I just quickly created a sloppy MCP panel view for the NGX and assigned the proper key command. Booted up FSX, loaded up and started OPUS, enabled camera, enabled DHM, when I was rolling down the runway it was like a jumpy house. And on the climbout it was too much over exaggeration with the shaking and the turbulence effects.

Do I have something wrong? The settings I used were already allocated with the view that was available. I just assigned the key command.

Is the shaking and constant bouncing around the way it's supposed to be? Or is it supposed to be more suble to and a bit bumpy just like it usually is.

Thanks!

You've done nothing wrong except that you can easily modify the parameters for your DHM effects within the DHM menus (via sliders). There's even a "test" button you can hit to see if the effect is to your liking.

Thanks. Should probably slow it up quite a bit then. It was non stop and very shaky and violent.

I would love for them to offer the functionality of EZCA within a specific camera- using the mouse button to pan around when it's depressed, arrow keys to move the eyepoint, etc

We are planning to implement the arrow keys but FSX already has a mouse look function for panning which we don't intend to replace.

FSX Mouse Look conflicts with TrackIR so you need to disable TrackIR (F9) prior to using Mouse Look.

To use Mouse Look try the following methods;

• press the space bar whilst holding down the left mouse button

• hold down the middle wheel button whilst moving the mouse around

• press shift-O then move whilst holding down the left mouse button, press shift-O again to exit mouse look

• program the wheel button to shift-O in your mouse driver.

The Microsoft Intellimouse works well as do other selected mice.

Hi Braden .

I am looking forward to being able to alter viewpoints using the arrow keys (aka EZDOK). I do miss that facility. I also missed the ability to look around with the mouse wheel depressed (when not using TIR), until I discovered that checking the "Mouse Look" box in FSUIPC got it working!

I'm no expert, so don't know why it worked lol. May or may not do it for anyone else.

Some information from one of our users which may help if you suffer from jerky TIR ...

If I could maybe provide some help, I'd like to try. I too had problems with the stuttering and jumping using DHM or not in P3D but have found a fix to mine. I'm at work, so please excuse any references that aren't verbatim.

1. I initially started using the v5 software from NP, but then switched to v4, this seemed to help.

2. In the TrackIR profile settings, I copied the initial "Flight" profile and added a null zone to all axes of movement.

3. In the Opus configuration window, I set the TrackIR update speed to 20ms.

With those settings and the setup, I now do not experience any TrackIR stuttering or jumping, even when my FPS dips way down into ~10 FPS range.

Also another user found by adjusting his trackir settings: speed = 0.5 and smoothness = 50, has made it much more smoother and hardly any stutters at all.

Thanks- I tried FSIUPC's mouse look and it caused me to not be able to use the mouse anymore- it wiggled all over the place (couldn't even move the mouse to select a menu- I had to turn the function off using my keyboard).

I can't seem to pan using the middle mouse button. Anyone know how to set that up within FSX- what exactly do I select? Under the mouse look menu option under "Controls" in the FS menu, when it asks me to select a button, it doesn't recognize the mouse wheel as a button.

The MS Intellimouse seems to be set up as default for mouse look panning with the middle button, other mice work as well if you can configure the middle button in your mouse driver to shift-O. Alternatively you can use one of the other mouse look methods mentioned in post #37 above.

BTW I've got a Sony mouse on one of our systems which I can't do anything with, the midle button just zooms in and out and I can't get it to do anything else.

Do you think in the future you guys will allow the weather engine to inject turbulence directly into FSX rather than just through the camera views' DHM? It would be great for those of us that only want to use the wonderful weather engine, but really love how EZCA allows us to move inside of our cockpits (via middle mouse buttons, arrow keys, etc). Unfortunately when you use EZCA, any turbulence effects on the aircraft are lost.

Hi Braden

I don't think so at the moment. The 'Bump Aircraft' option is currently work in progress, but this option is tied directly into the intelligent turbulence effects and the DHM motions (3D accelerometer) data. Both the camera effects and aircraft turbulent motions are sync'd to the DHM data which needs an active camera view to define it. We will of course review it after we have implemented the option.

You will of course, very soon, be able to move around the cockpit using the arrow keys etc., and of course the standard FSX mouse move has always done a fine job at allowing you to use the mouse to move around the cockpit and zoom in and out etc. Combine that with the standard hat switch panning and you've got all bases covered.

Stephen

Thanks Stephen.

Do you (offhand) know a way we can toggle the mouse look on and off, without having to press the spacebar (for example, holding the middle mouse button depressed, then dragging, causes panning). I'm looking for a way to eliminate the middle step of depressing the spacebar.

Hi Braden

To toggle Mouse Look without having to press the spacebar you can press shift-O then move whilst holding down the left mouse button, press shift-O again to exit mouse look, but this can be cumbersome. As you mention you can hold the middle mouse button then drag and when you release the middle button you should not be in mouse look mode. Is this what you meant?
