Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome

“Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome,” a highly anticipated sci-fi show that follows young military pilot Ensign William Adama (played by Luke Pasqualino) on an important mission during the first Cylon War, launched Friday morning online with two episodes (seen below) on Machinima. The YouTube channel, which earlier launched a couple of Halo Web series and made a splash in 2011 with Mortal Kombat: Legacy, may not have been the medium that“Battlestar” fans expected, but it has always been the show’s destination.

“The challenge initially from the network to me was ‘Can you come up with an idea that would serve an online distribution platform?’ X-Box, Netflix — I can’t remember the actual venues and outlets,” said executive producer David Eick.

“The catch was they wanted a concept that would serve this 10-episode structure that could later be cut into a movie. It was a little perplexing,” he added. ”The complication that occurred was that the network saw how good the script was and wanted to maintain the option to air it as a traditional network pilot. What became public perception was that we were doing a pilot for Syfy channel. Then when Syfy ultimately decided that it was so cool and so tailor-made for exactly the kind of experiment that we initially planned, that came off as ‘Oh, Syfy made a “Battlestar” pilot but they’re punting it and not gonna air it.’ And that’s just not how it came down at all — it just went right back to the original plan.”

Oh just WOW! That's going to be terrific. At last "they" seem to have rediscovered the secret sauce that made the original BG series so damn good!

The rebooted series remake of BG was just to "dark and philosophical" for my tastes.

To bad poor old Glactica was just about to be mothballed as a museum in the SyFi series. With the ablative armor and most of her weapons stripped, she was much less of a handful than she could have been, and considering that she often took on multiple BaseStars even weakened as she was and won, you have to wonder what would have happened if the series had happened with Galactica fully up to fighting strength.

Wow, I never noticed that. They really did strip her of a lot....

Anyone else feel the visuals were a bit more "real" in the old one when they used real sets? This was still excellent, and if CGI is what it takes to get this on regular TV, then thats fine with me. I just felt that it looked slightly off compared to the old one.... it reminded me of the CGI in the latest Star Trek movie actually.

Very impressive. Is this from the team that created Battlestar Galactica, or another group? The visuals are outstanding.

Well it's clear that at least some people who worked on Galactica and Caprica are also working on this.

I still have the original movie and most episodes from the original series in VHS, now converted to DVD.

I’m in, but still think the “old” battlestars looked better, and the suede uniforms were classier.

Keep in mind that this new "Blood and Chrome" series has a BG that's some 40 years "newer" than the original series. Also, uniforms undoubtedly changed several times over that same 40 some years... B)

Bearing in mind, of course, that these webisodes take place 10 years into the First Cylon War the uniforms are somewhat different from the Original (the helmet motif is there) but draw similarities to the Reimagined Series.

I also like Adama's ECO in the Raptor, "Coker". Seems like a crusty old fart, in Adama's eyes that is.

I agree Bill, but something along those lines happened with the Ford Mustang 65-73 just great, then 74-78 and 79-93 a horrible contraception, 94-2004 ???? and finallly back to basics since 2005.

Yeah, "Coker" is most definitely a cracker! Reminds me a bit of Starbuck in some ways. Speaking of whom, the "Reimagined series" mutation of Starbuck into a female? How stupid was that?

I thought about that for a long time myself, but in the end I liked Kara Thrace; she definitely had some self destructive attributes, but played the part of the grizzled, cocky fighter jock pretty well.

I thought the whole 'chicks in Vipers' idea was all right, but my favorite character was Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson... a take no BS, give it back straight sort of lass.

IMHO what killed the original series is how the writers seem to have lost track of the plot after BG et alia finally found Earth (aka: The Thirteenth Tribe)...

...well, that along with "Doctor Zee..."
