FSL A320

Whether FS Labs Airbus will be better(or at least same level)than NGX and Maddog?

I think it's safe to say that you can rest assured that the FSL A320 will be better than the NGX, setting a new bar for the T7 to beat :P , only yesterday (or was it the day before? ) Andrew was pointing out an awesome feature (Oh I tease.... :P ) that even I, after having spent thousands of hours of my life on that machine, was only very faintly aware of. That thing is so deeply modeled that there are many parts in it that I couldn't even answer questions on, one case even going so far as to have to call up the maintainence base at work and get them to explain something to me before I could pass it on to Andrew and the team. Or times where I've had to ask the team to explain to me how something worked before I could test it. I don't think there'll be anyone out there disappointed with the FSL A320.

Neither of course do I think many would be disappointed with the AS one either, though the AXE is aimed at a different, more casual market, it's still looking pretty nifty based on the preview post over on the AS forums. It looks stunning from the screen shots and seemed to have fixed certain gripes in the community such as the lack of FPV, always nice to see a company listening to its customers.

Wow Ronan that is just incredible those FSL guys are seriously hardcore - are they ex-Nasa engineers or something? According to the Avsim interview their simulation of the electrical buses on this addon are so low-level that the plane can autonamously re-create little behavioural quirks that only people who fly the things would recognize. These guys must be geniuses to be able to do this sort of thing with FSX.

In all honestly this addon will probably be too hardcore for me personally so I'll probably look to the AXE as a stepping stone.

Now I would really like to see some VC shots of this plane so that we can see if it compares graphically to the AXE which, say what you will, is one amazing looking addon. Oh and if someone knows just how FPS intensive this addon is going to be please advise....my poor PC can't handle too much more load with FSX =(.

Ooops, didn't mean to scare you off... I'm sure you'll make the best decision for your own tastes when the time comes round.

Some of the things I was talking about weren't all complicated, to create an analogy, lets say you drive a nice Toyota Avensis (they still make those?) and that sometimes when you go over a speed ramp you notice that the check engine light flickers, not always, only sometimes, you're not quite sure why, you can never replicate it, but it does happen. Simple things like that, that you don't really know why they happen, but they do, and on a totally random basis, don't really have much of an effect, only to enhance the realism, and things a seasoned Toyota driver may notice and just take for granted, but others may find curious.

From what I've understood from the guys, it's due to the ARINC protocol being modeled the same as in the real thing, so where the real thing sometimes gets confused, so does the FSL one (or something like that, I'm not 100% sure, I don't speak computer).

With all these A320's coming out it's too bad someone like Aerosoft or FSL didn't start working on an A330 or 340 first. Personally I can do without the small Airbus but really want to try a high quality A330 and A340 package.

Haha all good no harm done ;-). I'm fascinated by the amount of detail they are putting into this plane, when it comes down to it probably the only deciding factor will be how well my PC will handle it.

Hey since you are a RW Airbus pilot maybe you can make a tutorial video series for the addon that they can put on their website =D. Although of course I'm not sure how much difference there is between the A320 and A330 series planes.

I'm sure I could rustle up a nice tutorial for you guys before release, oh and I'm A330 and A320 rated, so there'll be no confusion there.

That would be awesome, Mr. Gael. I'm going to be cheeky and ask if it is in beta yet since you are mentioned testing.

I'm under a non disclosure agreement and can not comment on any specific part of the project or Lefteris would have my head on a plate. Keep in mind though that from the the time that the first line of code is written in any software, be it FS or other, the developers are always testing to makes sure that the inputs and outputs are delivering the results they expect, that it's interacting correctly with other code correctly, so to speak "testing". The code isn't just written in full, and then they go to check that it works, or that they made no spelling mistakes etc, it's tested every little step of the way. My statement that I was testing should not be looked into overly deeply.

Awesome can't wait! =D

No bother at all. I'll see if I can do a couple of videos pre-release along with a couple of step by step guides.

That would be fantastic and I'm sure a big help to a lot of 'soon to be' Airbus drivers on here..

Thanks for all the info Ronan...exciting times ahead for sure :)

As much as I love the NGX and marvel at how well it is made all around, one thing that is missing for me in the failure engine (at present, who knows in the future) is the lack of failures in the Flight Controls system, especially with the trailing and leading edge flaps. There is no Asymmetry skew, stuck, etc scenarios on the NGX, which may be due to limitations in FSX. I know you are under an NDA and I am not sure if you can answer this, but do you think these kind of system failures, etc will be modeled in the Bus?

Cheers,

Dinshaw Parakh.

P.S. Completely Off-topic, but I see two characters above the O and A in your name. Does it make a difference in pronunciation, and if so, how do you pronounce your name in a good Irish way ? :)

I know you are under an NDA and I am not sure if you can answer this...

Unfortunately not at the moment Dinshaw, as all of our team are under NDA. We'll be issuing more details about our failure system on the A320-X in due course.

I thought so. Thanks so much Andrew for such a prompt response. I am really looking forward to the 320 family. I am sure it will be a super success :)
