November 13, 201213 yr After waiting for nearly a year and then managing to finally download it (the correct version I might add) and after many failed attempts when it first came out, I finally got it and installed it only to find that the icons in the Textures tab are missing. After looking at the REX forums it pointed out that it was probably installed into the wrong directory. It wasn't but I followed the instructions only to find that nothing had changed. So back the the REX Forums I went only to find the the REX site was down. As they say, I'm in my back with The whole REX palaver! Compared to many many other programmes out their I have to say that their upgrade process leaves a lot to be desired. .
November 13, 201213 yr Darkstar, Their upgrade process does leave a lot to be desired. But I believe they now want to change it and have a bit hard time doing so, because of the overdrive package. It's basically either live with the upgrade process or they can't offer OD. I prefer the first. Concerning problems: I installed the full package from the FSS and then just upgraded with the correct package to the OD. All went well. I suggest you uninstall completely and install original + OD (the correct one). For me, everything's fine. Don't forget, this is software, made by people, and people tend to make errors too. Nevertheless, their support has always been there for me, so if you need help, I'm sure you'll get it!
November 13, 201213 yr Not to forget that it's a major free update. But, right you are, that installation folder hurdle hit quite some folks. Well, as far as I can see. You can always uninstall the whole thing and start again. When watching the folders, running it as admin (right click 'run as admin') and taking a few minutes of time, you should be set.
November 13, 201213 yr I also had some issues downloading the upgrade files. Now everything is almost fine. (No sound in the GUI for me), so I might do a full reinstall. I have been to the REX site several times today, no problem. Working fine just now, and YES it is a Free mayor update, much appreciated. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

When I eventually get round to it and have time to watch the progress bar (trust me when you've installed SQL server you get used to it) I will go for it. *sigh*
November 13, 201213 yr I took the approach of doing the upgrade from Essentials to Plus, leaving OD for later and that worked without a hitch for me. It was a relatively small and quick download, even though I did it on day one. I'm still waiting to add OD until the server load settles a bit more. I can wait for the OD textures, but wanted to get to testing the new wx engine immediately. Good luck - hope you get it going soon. So far, I'm quite pleased with it. Scott
November 13, 201213 yr Hi Darkstar, I had the same missing textures problem, but I was able to solve by changing the installation directory. If you have upgraded to Rex Essential from REX 2.0 like me, you need to point your installation to "Real Environment Xtreme 2.0" directory. Hope it helps. Cheers, Murat Murat Ozgul
November 14, 201213 yr usually its user error either they havnt downloaded into the correct folder, didnt use admin rights to install it, downloaded the wrong update for their version installed, and when running the program dont use admin rights either. Totally agree most of these issues are down to user error. This can either occur if the user is not very computer literate or if the process that the programmer has created is either not logical or clear. A well written process should be aimed at the lowest denominator. The trick is to correctly feedback what went wrong so that the developer can ensure that they take steps to ensure they make corrections to either their procedure or programming. IMHO any install or upgrade that fails is solely the responsibility of the developer. The install or upgrade should carry out all the required tests and checks and inform the user what they need to do next. The user just wants an end result. Once I figure out what it is I have done incorrectly due to the failings of the developers as detailed above I will feedback.

Did you downloaded the rexe plus from the fss store as a full download not as an update? And what version did you have previously rex2 o/d or just rex2 or rexe The reason is i asked is that if you just downloaded just the update from the rex forum update page is that most likely you have installed the update to the wrong location ie you probably installed it the the drive where rexe is located. But you need to point to the folder, if you have done this its a matter of just uninstalling the update from the control panel option and re installing it again to the correct location hope this helps. Make sure you use admin right to install and if your using w7 turn off your uac settings too I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg

Make sure you use admin right to install and if your using w7 turn off your uac settings too I should have mentioned that I use this computer solely for FSX and the UAC is completely switched of and everything I load I do with admin rights. I have OD and Rex Ess and downloaded the upgrade for the correct version of ess from the Rex forums. I've already tried what you suggested with no luck. As I write this I'm now downloading the full version from the fss which seems to be going slowly but downloading. I originally attempted to do this but even with my 20meg connection the last time I tried it and after waiting 8 hrs and only managing to download about 3% of it I gave up, well I lie, I tried it until my available downloads reached 86! They obviously have had issues as the count today is reset and the server options are reduced to three where before I did have a uk option which didn't work at all. Once it completes and I install I'm sure that (well I'm hoping) all will be fine. I will let you know My point is... For me at least the whole experience has not been that positive, and has been going on since release. The only positive aspect has been these forums, so many thanks to everyone that has offered advice.

Once done its a good idea to use ccleaner as well. and once you install its a good idea to install it in its own root drive not the default drive I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
November 14, 201213 yr I upgraded directly from REXE to REXE+OD, checked my existing build version and installed to the existing REX directory, worked flawlessly.

To be honest I wasn't going to do this today as I have development of my own to work on! But you have to finish what you start lol and I'm sure I can catch up in the early hours with lots of coffee as that's when the best dev work is done isn't it? Lol
