Taxi2Gate St Louis Scenery?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have this addon? If so, how would you rate it? I'm very tempted to buy it (on sale right now) but I have never seen any reviews or comments about their sceneries, though I do notice that this one has AES support which is usually a good sign.

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

Needless to say, as a scenery junkie, I gave into the temptation and bought this soon after it came out, as it was one of the major US airports for which I did not up until then, have good scenery. Certainly it is better than the screenshots on SimMarket would suggest, but for some reason the airport has a slightly 'dead' feeling to it without the sense of realism achieved by developers such as UK Extreme, Aerosoft and Fly Tampa. This is unfortunate as the airport modelling is not bad at all but some of it may be due to the lack of any autogen around the airport perimeter. I think it was expensive at the full asking price, but I would recommend it at the current sale rate. Taxi2Gate are, I understand gradually improving their scenery quality, and from the reviews it seems that their latest offering, Bratislava, is quite good, although I have not yet taken the plunge there as once again it is relatively expensive and I have just bought Dubai and Dusseldorf!

Hope this helps your decision,

Bill

Thanks Bill. I also just bought Dubai and Dusseldorf was next on my list so I will think over KSTL. I already have more airports in the US than I really need so I will have to do a "cost-benefit" analysis. (i.e. a coin toss!) LOL

I appreciate the feedback my friend

Ian

Ian you know you want it ... it is mid-west after all.

It is famous, Cesar has fixed the frame rate problem

I love it as I do Bratislava. Buy it whilst on special ... you wonlt regret it, promise.

The AFCAD needs some work.

Have you corrected the AFCAD? If so, maybe you could upload it as with it being on sale, my guess is that there will be quite a few new owners over the next week or so...

Thanks

Ian

Okay mate - I'm sold! I'll get it later on today... The fact that it has AES support had already pretty much sold me and at the current price, it's worth giving it a try

Let us know what you think. Since TWA closed down it is far from a busy airport with not that much aircraft movement even in the real world. Like Kansas City Intl this airport had high hopes but airline restructuring put the kabosh on the vision. Now we have a big airport that could be allot smaller for the traffic it handles. This kept me from buying this offering because it does look weird (even in the real world) to have a large airport like this with mostly empty gates. Southwest's small ramp is the only thing hoping at this airport. The old TWA/now American ramp is all but a ghost town when comparing flights to actual number of gates.

I'm glad I read Dillon's post before I first loaded the scenery - otherwise I may have thought I had turned down my AI percentage by mistake. Other than a few regional jets and GA executive aircraft, there was one solitary SW 737 at a gate - just as Dillon had warned. I also agree with the post above that the paucity (non existence really) of autogen around the airport detracts from the immersion, but I can fix that myself with Instant Scenery 2. And as I'm not a purist when it comes to real world schedules, I will beef up the AI and maybe even convince some other airlines to start regular flights.. ^_^ I may reactivate the ANG base as well - and put some production aircraft coming off the Boeing line on the ramp. So I plan to liven it up with a lot more AI than it maybe has in real life. Within the sim, we have POWER my friends!!! Muhahaha. (Evil laughter)...

With those negatives, there are positives. It is a decent looking scenery with good FPS and at the current sale price, I have no regrets that I bought it. And the comments about the screen shots on SimMarket not reflecting the true quality of the scenery - absolutely true. It is far better than the screenies made it look. It's definitely not on a par with what we have come to expect from Aerosoft, FlyTampa etc. But if you are interested in having KSTL in your list of destinations for FS9, you will probably be happy with it.

Cheers

Ian

Something similar, though on a far smaller scale, happened at KRDG Reading, near where I live and where we had the AVSIM conference a few years ago at MAAM. Right after they built a new terminal, US Air dropped their service and the terminal has never been used...

Wow. I hope KMSP doesn't end up like this. Since Delta bought out NWA service so far has not decreased. I guess strategically being the only major airport this far north, east, and west of the Great Lakes it's a keeper. Routes to Japan and all the upper western states, KMSP complements Delta's hub in Salt Lake City.

I have a feeling that within a few years the continued merger of the major carriers in the US, several airports that have been expanded over the past 20 or so years to be major hubs will become simply regional airports.

Sometimes I take my FS2004 retro to 2004 and bring back some of those liveries I miss....TWA, Northwest, America West, Continental, Aloha...and Skybus and Big Sky. Don't miss Delta's Song or United's Ted, though. Nice thing about this hobby...quick and easy to change back and forth to suit almost any whim.

I really hope not, talk about worst case scenario. KSTL and KMCI looks terrible with their emptiness. I would hate to see KMSP go the same route unless the down size the airport.

Is not the US airline industry merely replicating what has happened to the US railways?

At least we had a viable replacement for trains. No such luck with air travel.

No I don't have a corrected AFCAD. I am not very good at making good AFCADs. But other than the AFCAD I like the scenery.
