November 24, 201213 yr Commercial Member So am I banned ? ....... people don't get banned for requesting support. ...... Rob ... have you read my post above and tried what I suggested? Your response here seems to suggest not. IE follow the link I posted and make a post in the validation thread. This is what you were instructed to do when you registered, for the reasons we seem to be encountering now.
November 24, 201213 yr Author Believe me I have clicked everything imaginable and its always the same as the cheery picture I posted above. Its rapidly getting to the stage where I don't really care. I am having several emotions about the ORBX people and how they do things .. annoyance, frustration and several others I won't mention I am not even sure if I am guilty of the crime that caused my banning,or Lock out (same thing really) How on earth can you work out whats happening when confronted with a message like that It was only here that I found out that I wasn't banned .. They have a lost password bot ..sent me a new one ..No luck They have an administrator bot which informed me that my message was received and May OR May not be answered So why could't they have a bot with a message along the lines ... your account has been temporarily locked .. or what ever. At least then I would have known where I stood I have only ever had the 1 problem with a product and this was my 1st time I asked for actual support. They run their site differently than here, or anywhere else I've been. Here I can browse and read all posts , I only have to sign in if I wish to post. There I have to log in before I can access ALL the various sections, whether I wish to post or not. Since I have been locked out for the past three days there is no way I can actually verify if indeed i did post in the wrong section, I went to the place where everyone else posted "issues" they were having with installs. gave my purchase order # and Date purchased. I have no beef with Tim , he did his best and offered several suggestions, nothing worked. They asked me to post pictures, gave me a link to a tutorial, that didn't work either. There posting pictures is a little more complicated then here ..if you are familiar with their site you know what I mean. I took some snaps and would have been glad to post them BUT couldn't get it to work.. This is what my problem looks like Since I may or not get back in there maybe someone here has an idea how to fix it. There are absolutely NO conflicts with anything else on FSX since I don't have anything else except UTX and that would not case this problem. In the end the ORBX people have every right to run their site any way thay wish and treat their customers in the same manner. Fortunately we customers also have options ..woting with our wallets. From what I was able to gather before my lock out sales of England were going through the roof so whats one customer less in the long term Any way I feel better now hoving got that of my chest. Cheers Rob
November 25, 201213 yr There is a possible explanation that has happened to me here at Avsim. If I try and log in to Avsim at work I get a message saying I'm not allowed to visit these forums. I assume the Avsim filter is set to block the IP address that my department uses for some reason. It may be possible that the same thing is happening to you. That's all I can think of... and it can be a buggar to fix because you can't get a message to the administrators. I have emailed the administrators here but they don't seem interested in fixing it for me. Can you get someone you trust to try and log in with your login details from their computer? If they can then it's probably the explanation and Jaykae will need to be contacted to sort it out,
November 25, 201213 yr Author thanx nojwod, I'll be visiting a computer friend in a few days and I'll try from there. It appears that I can send them messages because their password bot sent me a new one The administrator bot sent me a confirmation that my message was received. I don't know if they've dumped me but its been 4 days and nothing at all from their admainistrator end I did send two messages ..no reply. I have no idea why they do things this way but if I've been dumped then so be it. Ironically I've had lots of time the last 4 days to think about this and I have in a fashion been able to solve the problem so if they won't help me then it doesnt really matter any more. Averything works fine, I can see the new autogen and landclass, very nice. AS you can see from the Spokane airport I am sitting in a trench...and same in all the other 69 NRM airports which are located in the scenery]world\scenery folder These are their elevation_asjustment.bgls so I experimented by removing them and PRESTO ..no more trenches. I am now able to land on the runways and they are flat and level as should be, so it appears that their own bgls caused the problem. This however can not be the proper solution since they have sold thousands of NRM packages and I haven't seen anybody else reporting this problem so it must be unique to my system for some reason. I repeat again appart from ORBX stuff I have nothing else installed that could be a conflict. For all I know they may in fact have posted a solution but I have no way of knowing since its impossible for me to get access to my post. Such is life Robert
November 25, 201213 yr Yeah, so you did not follow the instructions which were very specific in the welcome PM I sent you via my automatic system. Hence, you were locked out until I can verify the validity of your account. Also just to let you know, we do not ban people at Orbx, we limit the user at worst from accessing the main areas but leave one specific area open. So if you ever find yourself limited the above message would not show. This is another case where the error is with the user, not the company, had you watched the little 2 minute YouTube video about proper registration and followed the instructions properly, there would be no issue. Anyway, account validated manually, you can post again PS, I will not answer your email now of course, as you took it to AVSIM I found it appropriate to also reply via AVSIM PSPS The reason why you did not get a reply is because it is the weekend and turnaround is 48 hours which only just have passed. I was about to reply when I noticed this thread
November 25, 201213 yr Commercial Member I am not even sure if I am guilty of the crime that caused my banning,or Lock out (same thing really) Rob, Can you explain why you persist with this line of discussion, when it has been explained that you did not follow the validation instructions? Further, I have entered this forum to explain this to you, and brought this to the Admin forum at ORBX, so the problem can be solved for you. Take a very deep breath and think. If people are pursuing this problem over the internet to solve it for you, have you been badly treated to justify this sort of comment? To be perfectly honest, it makes me wonder why on earth I have bothered to make the effort. In future I will not. You post here, you are in the hands of the 'cognoscenti' present. Good luck with that.
November 25, 201213 yr You know, the Avsim community is very active, people take notice and converse about it. While Robert may have come to his own oblique solution, publishers should be aware that forum members will not miss the opportunity to observe and comment on something as popular as ORBX and their outstanding scenery products. I would observe that representatives of products that are inferior to ORBX do not seem to have a self righteous attitude and appear to believe that obsequious support remains adequate to complete a satisfactory user experience. Rick Keller
November 25, 201213 yr Author To be perfectly honest, it makes me wonder why on earth I have bothered to make the effort. In future I will not. You post here, you are in the hands of theI 'cognoscenti' present. Good luck with that. I am sorry to have upset you hcornea., it was not my intention and I do appreciate your efforts. I have a certain style with words and it was probably the frustration showing through. JayKae And as for not following the proper procedures and NOT watching the video ..I would have done so if I could but it probably needs Flash player which I do not have installed... all I had was a red cross, no video ...MY fault I know. Anyway I am glad its all over. The fact remains had I not posted here at avsim the problem may never have been resolved. My apologies Robert
November 25, 201213 yr Commercial Member obsequious support remains adequate to complete a satisfactory user experience. Thank-you for explaining the style of communication you were expecting, Rick! I would observe that very few product vendors would chase you down the street to help with a procedural problem. Even fewer would accept a verbal lashing about your service levels after having done so! That may just be my experience. I have not found anyone servile enough, perhaps. @Rob, Glad you are sorted.
November 25, 201213 yr No Rob, your email would have been answered and I would have fixed it up for you via email but you indeed are sorted now so all good
November 28, 201213 yr Author For those who have been following my little saga here and wished me well I am glad to report that it has been sorted out (sort off) in the end This has really been an unpleasant experience in the past week During that time I managed to upset one person from ORBX here but I did learn a new word "COGNOSCENTI" (had to look it up) and I got the feeling that I irritated another , but after being confronted for 4 days in a row with "YOU ARE NOT allowed to visit this Community" well I hope they understand. Even after beeing allowed back in I felt distinctlly uncomfortable being there and didn't linger or look at anything else appart from my post. I don't know, maybe thats unreasonable, its just how I feel. Hopefully I wont have to go there again When I 1st came here I had no idea there were so many dissgruntled people here and so many negative comments about how they go about things but I do understand. Cheers Robert
November 28, 201213 yr "make a post in the validation thread." good to see it was resolved. you never did answer if you did or didnt. ZORAN
November 28, 201213 yr Wait a minute.......... The fact remains had I not posted here at avsim the problem may never have been resolved. The fact remains you did not validate yourself right in the first place. Two people from Orbx that really have no reason to come to these forums, did, and have tried to help you, it's sorted now because you now have validated yourself in the right way. Ian and Jay have gone out there way to help you, if you feel Orbx validation could be better then post how in your opinion it could be better in there support forum. Most forums these days need a e-mail and for you to jump though some hoops to stop spam bot's. Reading though this the problem is your end and if you say Even after beeing allowed back in I felt distinctlly uncomfortable being there and didn't linger or look at anything else appart from my post. You were not "allowed back" you failed to register and you were never banned believe ME there is a big difference. If you feel uncomfortable there now then perhaps its because all this here was un-called for and next time read more carefully and if you did not get an e-mail have a look in your junk box. Or Robert you could just put this down to a learning thing, forget it and move on.  David Murden. November 28, 201213 yr Author I had really hoped that my previous post would be the last on the subject but there seems to be a bit of confusion here so I will make this my last post on the matter and as you suggested move on with my life. Believe me I've gotten over it already. As to your assumption I did not validate then and I STILL have not validated now. For decades I have belonged to many forums, some Flight Sim some gardening and other interests and I have nevet encountered a site like theirs so did NOT understand the rules. I did register ,got a password, logged in and thought that was it.Had I thought in my wildest dreams that at some arrbitrary point later I would get locked out because of this I might have done things differently And before you say this was all explained in the videio..as I have stated previously I could not watch the video, every time I clicked on it all I got was a red cross. I tried, I couldn't and still cant. Maybe the solution is to change browsers but I happen to like the one I am using, it performs well, I am comfortable with it SO THE sequence of events in chronological order I registerd , signed on and posted freely for a few weeks. In that time I bought 6 areas from them which performed flawlessly. Number 7 NRM I was looking forward to because it contains my Hub airport Loaded up my airpoprt, sitting in a trench surrounder by walls Posted the problem in the appropriate forum area, with my order # and details. Got immediate reply from Tim who posted a suggestion Didn't work Posted back got another suggestion didnt work Logged on several hours later and was greeted with You are not allowed to visit this community Now what is a REASONABLE person to think ..how in the name of (anything) could I deduce from that statement as to why I was in the middle of trying to resolve a problem, no luck ...You are not allowed to visit this community. Maybe I am not a reasonable person but it occured to me that I may have somehow been out of line. So sent an email to administrator as requested below that sign Got immediate reply from the auto bot saying that my message was received and MAY or MAY NOT be answered ..usually beyween 24-48 hours Now I don't care what sort of mathematics you want to use , I was locked out on a Friday, got back in on a Monday A little outside the "usual" 48 hours and knowing already that I may NOT be getting a reply again what is a reasonable person to think. 3 days had passed I am still sitting in a trench, I still can't log on'. and I still havent received a reply. Now I dont want to knitpick over a few hours or days ..I do not possess a crystal ball, I did not know if I would ever get a reply.. . In the meantime I tried every suggestion offered here, clicked every link, tried to get back to the validation screen BUT alway got the same message as you can see above After which I became a little annoyed and learnt a new word in the process. So what ever terminology you want to use, i did get back in and received some wonderfull support from Mr Sandman whom I happen to admire greatly for the great work he did for the Fs9 community with Glacier Bay, Bella Coola, and Columbia valley..all freebies. In the end we didn't totally fix it but it is workable, he tried , did his best and that is all I ever expect and I did appreciate his efforts and thanked him for it.. I was satisfied. If you failed to grasp that from my previous post then I must have worded it poorly. In saying that I hoped I wouldnt have to go back there again I merely meant that the next ORBX product I bought would work properly and there would be no need. I have absolutely no problem with the people who tried to help, they make a good product. My problem is with the choice and style of their wording. Had I seen .. "Your account is temporarily suspended because you did not post in the Validation thread, please do so so we can re-instate you" I would have known immediately what the problem was and would have acted differently, even if I had to get a different browser for a short while. In the end as you say my fault I did not follow the proper procedure, I would have but didn't know how. And as tou your suggestion that I should have posted my opinions about their site on their forum, I did consider it but have since read all the posts here as to what happens to this type of post there so thought it probably wasn't worth it. I am over it I am satisfied I will get on with my life Robert
