December 10, 201213 yr I've used Win 8 64 since the first Beta and am using RTM now. If you aren't using it then your comments aren't pertinent.

December 11, 201213 yr I cant see the "Stability" argument holding any water here.. Mine so far, zero crashes, 100% stable, even on the 4.8GHz overclock its rock solid.. Boot time, I couldn't care less about, only boot once a day, and am normally making a cuppa while its doing that anyway, but actual performance of FSX in terms of better smoothness and FPS I'm interested in, definitely, especially if it means I can crank up some of the last remaining settings like airport traffic @ Heathrow or Boats/ships around Gibraltar.. Nor can I see any Stability argument. Running Win8 64 bit RTM for a month now and ran the Beta versions since they were available. Zero problems with stability. I think that a good percentage of the naysayers haven't even used Win8 yet.
December 11, 201213 yr I think that a good percentage of the naysayers haven't even used Win8 yet. I havent used it yet either, but I was referring to those who say they upgraded due to stability... Anyway, back on track..... So for those who have upgraded to Win8 x64, have you actually had a measurable performance increase to your FSX? Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂

December 11, 201213 yr hmm, thanks Sean... So your FSX is running much better now too huh? THAT is of serious interest... My only pain in the neck has been right from the start in using eyefinity is that I cant maximise a window into just 1 monitor, it just goes full width across 3 screens... Might be worth looking into this, as I know ASUS have released a lot of BIOS updates for my systemboard to handle Win8.. With Eyefinity, Windows sees your three monitors as one monitor. I believe you will have the very same exact issue with Windows 8. I've had multiple monitors since Windows XP and when I maximize something, it always maximizes to one individual monitor. Setting your video card to "span" mode (in any win OS) will give you the same problem you describe. As someone who has used both (even though I haven't installed FSX on win 8), I'd vote to use the newer OS. There are a lot of things I hate about it, but most non-techies I know love it. Just make sure Eyefinity works in Win 8 though.
December 11, 201213 yr So for those who have upgraded to Win8 x64, have you actually had a measurable performance increase to your FSX? Clearly NO if you ask for measurable. Maybe a bit smoother, but you know how it is about such "feelings". Changing OS in hope to gain sth. for FSX is not necessary. But it is a very stable, fast and nice OS, yes... I have posted earlier about being able to set window (or FSX elements such as a PFD) locations within the fsx.cfg file for multiple monitors, but never got any answers- may have been how I framed the question. You've got me going back to that thread to see if I can pose my queston a bit clearer....thanks! Sean B. I know, just wondered if there was any sort of app that was capable of recognising the silly resolution was made up of 3 screens. This is the only thing I really don't like about eyefinity.. I only have it for FSX, nothing else, ever. Richard... Amateur Pilot and UK Web Hosting Guru 🙂
