I'm hoping to find an add on that imparts some more realism in terms of ground roll sound effects, shakier camera views, wheel screech effects--something to tame the at time sterile nature of built-in effects. As I'm on dated hardware it would be important to me not to have undo processing overhead from this add-on. Suggestions? I'd also like to stick to one only, if there is something somewhat all-encompassing.

Many thanks in advance,

Noel

While I love using EZCA, I believe there is a noticeable performance impact. Nevertheless, I became used to it on my previous computer, an Apple iMac with a Core 2 Duo processor. The realism it adds when used properly is very nice, but it is a pain to adjust all the settings properly. If you do decide to purchase it, I suggest using settings other people have spent time developing.

I love Accu-Feel. EZCA also has views, but that really isn't necessary unless you are making videos. Accu-Feel to me is the way to go, but then again I don't have experience with EZCA, so I cannot provide a proper verdict. I am happy with Accu-Feel and what it provides me as a pilot/user.

The flexibility of EZCA aircraft and virtual cockpit cameras as well as the shaking effects it applies really makes it beneficial to FSX activities outside of video-making. I thought about purchasing Accu-Feel, and I like the concept behind it, but I didn't really like the touchdown sounds (the skidding sound) heard even during the landings of large aircraft. It seems out of place.

Yes, what you are saying is true, as EZCA is a lot more functional than Accu-Feel. Personal preference really, I quite like the touchdown sounds. But everybody is entitled to their own opinion :) I believe EZCA is also ~ twice the cost of Accu-Feel?

I do agree that FSX is lacking some realistic touchdown sounds, though. One of my favorite parts of real-world landing videos is the rattling of the cabin and overhead compartments that occurs during landing—it is so much more interesting than hearing the abrupt touchdown noises of most FSX add-ons, or worse, the sound of the automatic spoilers deploying.

Does Accu-Feel have any camera shake effects? Sounds like I had better start w/ Accu-Feel at least and go from there.

Thank you all for your insights!

If you taxi off the pavement onto the grass, the plane shakes quite a bit. This is even quite noticeable using TrackIR. There is a good video of the effects on the A2A site. The plane also makes various complaining noises, and I've read that it's possible to hit a hole and damage the plane if you're going too fast. Even during taxi there are bumps in the taxiway, but they're minor.

If you don't like any effect, you can turn it down or off. Pretty much everything is customizable. Not only that, but AccuFeel takes into consideration the size (and probably type) of aircraft and chooses some good default values. If you don't like the wheel screech on touch down, lower the volume.

For $15 it's well worth giving a try. I didn't like the effect on the first aircraft I was flying with it and turned it off, but since then I've used it on every aircraft.

I use EZdok, AccuFeel and FSPS Runway Bump Effectl

EZdoc is for Visual shakes and movements out the front screen.

Accufeel adds sound effects as wind, flaps, spoilers and tire screeches.

FSPS adds runway bump sounds from recessed lights etc...Its totally adjustable in the gui.

Stay away from Dolby cockpit sounds!

All in all, my Simpit is quite realistic.

One thing I never liked about professional fixed-base simulators is the lack of physical or visually physical feedback at touchdown. Perhaps some camera shake or louder touchdown sounds could be featured. In many YouTube videos of real fixed-base simulator action, I can not tell when the aircraft touches down, at least on my first viewing. During my experience in an A320 fixed-base simulator, I was unable to tell either until one second later. There are often so many factors during a manual landing that it is difficult to pay attention to when the aircraft has actually touched down if no "natural" feedback is provided.

For years I thought TrackIR was the most immersive bit of hardware I could purchase for my home cockpit until i bought a buttkicker last month.

I read the reviews and knew it was good however nothing prepared me for how massive the difference is once you have it installed in your home cockpit. I regret waiting so long to buy one.

It's hard to describe how good it is, I use custom soundpacks for my A320 & PMDG Md11, initially thought it would just shake my seat however you feel it through your whole body, you get that deep thump when retracting the landing gear or touchdown, and a rumble when the engines are running. If I had to choose between TrackIR or that buttkicker I would throw away the trackIr, and I absoultely love TrackIR.

If your on the fence and can afford it definitely get one, it will change your whole simming experience, and not just simming, movies come to life too.

I have heard about this and am really interested by the concept, but can not possibly afford it when I do not yet have a good yoke or any rudder pedals. Currently, I am trying to save my budget for add-ons, as my only realistic aircraft are the Flight1 Cessna C510, Level-D B767, and PMDG B747. Thanks to Black Friday, I now own FlyTampa Hong Kong and Vienna and FSDT Geneva and Zurich. Currently, I am saving up for FSUIPC and other scenery products, as I am fine with flying only the B747 until the PMDG B777 comes out. . . .

Being a student without any reliable source of income, luxuries such as the ones you mentioned are unfortunately impractical.

I also installed two bass shakers under each seat with tactile transducers (small pucks) under the pedals and yokes. A 220amp drives it through the audio card.

Startup feels incredibly realistic and taxi bumps with Runway Bumping Effect just tops it off! Highly reccommended!

Feeling and hearing flaps, wind and gear bumps make it 90% there! Only thing left would be "motion"!

Btw...2 CFI's from the local (Toronto) Flight school who have flown in my 2 seat sim have said that the 3 static simulators at the school "don't hold a candle to your sim"lol!
