FSX+TrackIR5+EZDOK=Awesome!

Featured Replies

I'm sure some of you are already aware but this combination is awesome. I decided to finally plunk down the change to get Track IR 5. I had my doubts about buying it after fiddling around with the freeware versions and never getting them to work quite exactly the way I wanted. I would wonder how much better can Naturalpoint be? I also remember guys crying about Flight not having TrackIR support at first and thought "come on guys, it can't be that bad". Well I found out why today. I will never fly another sim again without this thing. I took my Bonanza up for a few touch and go's while using it for the first time and all I have to say is, wow! The movement is very precise. Being able to look into my turn then quickly scan my instruments or look over the panel without touching buttons is extremely immersive and convenient. I just wish I had saved myself the hassle and bought this thing a long time ago. So if anybody here had been thinking the same way I was, please do yourself a favor and buy it if you have the means.

Welcome to the club! ^_^ Yes, it's awesome and yes, once you used it you can't imagine flying without it anymore.

I do wonder what EZDOK is doing in the topictitle because you don't mention it at all...?

I am looking into getting TrackIR but just was wondering what EZDOK does (in relation to TrackIR) and wether or not that is something I need to have or something that is nice to have.

Sorry about that. Forgot to mention that EZDOK gives you that realistic head shake effect that makes you feel as the forces acting on the plane are affecting your head movements, which is awesome too. The two work well together.

EZDOK let's you create and save camera views from within FSX and when you switch between them you get smooth transitions. Creating camera views seems something you won't need anymore when you have TrackIR but it's still nice being able to have a overview of the overhead or a zoomed in view of the radiostack or the FMC or to switch to various passengerviews (all while still being able to look around with TrackIR). They work together very well. EZDOK also...

...yes, that's what EZDOK also gives, but... OpusFSX does it a LOT better. It really makes the movements of EZDOK look like random wobbling... And that's while the camera option of OpusFSX is really just a bonus to the awesome OpusFSX weather engine! I stopped using EZDOK a while after buying OpusFSX. For newbies the camera option of OpusFSX is also a lot easier to get used to then EZDOK, which is incredibly complicated for some (I never had real problems with it, but a LOT of people did).

So Stoli51, if you really want to go all nuts and out of your mind, get OpusFSX too! And McLaren: get TrackIR. You'll love it. And also add OpusFSX to the cart. ^_^

Does TrackIR impart any performance impact? I'm on dated hardware and need to be mindful of that...

How about being able to interact w/ your keyboard, any issues there?

Thanks!

As far as I can tell, TrackIR itself does not impact performance. What CAN impact performance is that you're looking around a lot and new scenery and mesh often have to be loaded when you look in a new direction. You can see the effect by panning around with mouse look. If you get a *major* performance impact, you'll have similar problems with TrackIR.

TrackIR has 3 keys assigned to functions: Pause, recenter, and precision mode and you can change them easily. I have pause and center assigned to joystick buttons, as I use these all the time. Precision I've got assigned to the numpad asterisk key, but never use it.

Sounds good, you may be receiving a PM or two from me in the coming weeks. My new 27" Catleap monitor is arriving today. Once I have that all sorted TrackIR will be the next project (a gift from me to me for Christmas).

I was just about to ask what is EZDOK, but I've read the descriptions. After I installed TrackIR 5 on my system, I can't fly FSX without it! I think I can live without EZDOK.

Looks like there is a demo, I'll have to check it out. Kinda hoping it isn't that much better because I really don't want to drop another $45 bucks. I also have ASE so I hope it's weather engine isn't better either,LOL.

I did the reverse, got rid of trackir after ezdok.

LOL Yeah, I know the feeling... ^_^

Could someone please show a photo of this EZDOK device so I can pick one up at Walmart or something.

It sounds awesome!

Ezdok is software, not a device.. and certainly not the best option for what it is used for. Plus, ezdok should be doing an upgrade in the future and May cost money for that upgrade. Do yourself a favor, check out opusfsx instead.. much better weather and head movements.. and since opusfsx and ezdok use the flight1 wrapper, you have 30 days money back policy so you can try out both.
