PMDG Boeing 777. Already as real as it Gets...

Featured Replies

True to PMDG form in getting us an aircraft that is a realistic as it gets...

It looks like us FSers are having to wait on the delivery delays just like the real world airliners had to wait for Boeing and all their delays.

I for one can do without this "realism".

Can't wait.

The PMDG T7 isn't delayed.....lol

Looking forward to it to though

de·lay

/diˈlā/

Verb

Make (someone or something) late or slow: "the train was delayed".

Noun

A period of time by which something is late or postponed.

In order to be late, or postponed, something needs an intended time of completion. As one was never given, can it really be late?

I will say, though, that I'm pretty excited to see it.

I was waiting for that Kyle thanks

Since you cracked the door...

So... what is LATE for PMDG? Late being a fulcrum word here, let's have a peek at late:

1late adjective \ˈlāt\

lat·erlat·est

Definition of LATE

1

a (1) : coming or remaining after the due, usual, or proper time <a late spring> (2) : of, relating to, or imposed because of tardiness

Given my emphasis in the snippet, it seems that late extends beyond "due." But how late is the 777 by the PMDG standards?

NGX

A quick search shows an announcement of the NGX in the summer of 2007, we were then treated to a delivery in the Summer of 2011: 4 years. As an aside, the printed manuals were offered at Christmas 2010, so we can also perhaps take as customary an indication that we can expect the product almost as we'd expect an infant? 9 months later? It is nearly impossible to generalize from that case.

MD-11

To go further back in time, let's think on the MD-11. PMDG announces this in 2004 and delivers in 2008, so the four-year span seems to approach a normative duration.

777

So, if we were receive this airplane in 9 months, it would be delivered in nearly 1/5th the time that it has taken for other major and recent projects.

So as with any highly anticipated release from PMDG, we'll reliably hear from the whiners and the apologists. Popcorn indeed. The manuals are a nice read for those willing to splash out on them. Perhaps they are given as a "hush puppy."

In the end as we are absolutely starved of alternatives for high-quality, high-end, high-fidelity airline add-ons, it is always a painful wait for the sole provider to come through.

All we initially had was in march where Robert said there will be a couple of months before testing with a rapid acceleration for release.

I did pick up on the PMDG business model, where he said that the model just doesn't work when we are taking a long time to push out new aircraft.

I was wondering when that quote was going to show up. Kind of fitting since The Hobbit will be released next week.

haha - I still rest on my point above.

Ever tell a girl you weren't particularly interested in "yep, I'll call you later!"

Later can mean later tonight, tomorrow, next week, next month. All of those times are later, and you'd never be lying, and you'd never be late. She could probably get into stat analysis as some of the people have here, but you still never pinned down a time, so you're still not technically late.

If you can dodge a woman, you can dodge a boss/clinger/wrench/ball/car/train (but don't push your luck with a bullet - Superman's about the only one...that or Neo).

So, dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge away...

I wouldn't mind if it came out next year, because when it does, it will be absolutely amazing.
