Megascenery Earth V2.....a question.

Featured Replies

Jim and Kevin, thanks to you both for your comments. The problems I've had in old MS Earth products are with default FSX airports, not addon scenery so the fact that you've not seen issues yet in V2 products or the original SimSavvy stuff is encouraging.

I have flown around a lot of airports (large and small) in the MSE v2.0 states of Maryland, Delware, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York and a couple in Pennsylvania (so far) and havent found any runways disappearing at all so far. Granted some default autogen objects at some of the airports might flicker on and off for a split second depending on the angle you are viewing them at, but that is par for the course for some default FSX objects that appear... But as for runways disappearing, I havent found any yet with v2.0 MSE titles.

anyone with flickering runway problems, just do some research on how to add a flatten polygon under the runway. Problem solved

Megascenery its way better than gex with autogen. Adding low poly buildings is my plan the ohio river just need river boats, and towns need watertowers, and windmills. Rather have midsize city with 5 to 10 buildings that are realistic and airport too than autogen that chews up fps looks out of place. Its deciding what to build is the hard part tend to stay from airports as do not have photos to work off of and perfer mundane buildings like gas stations. Know how to create buildings with other programs and import them into FSX. Also, I use blue sky lake powell area with glen canyon dam is awesome too.

And lastly, here are our nvidia graphics cards settings, for your reference only. We dont guarantee these will give you the best results, but feel listing them might give you an option to see MegaSceneryEarth 2.0 sceneries how they are made to be best seen.

This actually conflicts with what nVidia have for an FSX Profile (see below):

I certainly appreciate all the hard work the MSE folks have put into their scenery (I've purchased most of CA, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Arizona) -- but I also have REX -- I want a little of both!

I'm not sure why MSE has to remove AutoGen? Can't this be an option to leave the Autogen and just replace the Terrain textures with MSE?

Also, I noticed that MSE will change the FSX.CFG regardless of whether or not I check/uncheck the recommended option to allow these changes. MSE will add the following:

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33

MESH_RESOLUTION=22

TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=25

I keep backups of my FSX.CFG so it's easy enough to restore back.

Also notice that in California scenery that are some drastic changes in tone ... for example 069 to 084 and 027 053 028 ... one is heavily skewed with a brownish tint while the other is not ... almost as if the images were taken on a very smoggy day in LA vs. a clear winter day.

But I'm on the fence of just going with REX and maxed out AutoGen or MSE.

If anyone has come up with a way to make both REX and MSE work together, please let me know.

Thanks, Rob.

REX and MSE? Do you mean GEX and MSE?

REX (Real Environment Xtreme) and MSE work together fine :)

Oops, sorry ... yes GEX ... so many ..EX's just waiting for someone to publish a Sound Environment X ... dooh, couldn't resist!

Yes, REX and MSE work fine together.

I have come up with a possible idea to meld REX and MSE but need to code my idea and see if it work ... it's similar to this process http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Autogen_from_OpenStreetMap_data_with_scenProc

I wish you get have GEX and UTX only work within 5 miles of the airport and have MegasceneryX work everywhere else. That'd be nice.

That's what I'm doing with the photo scenery I'm creating. I'm just creating a blend mask around any existing airport so the photo scenery doesn't show up there and I keep the autogen. That would be a nice option from MSE and other photo scenery producers.

I was flying over MSE Tennessee the other day, which I'm familiar with in real life, and I just loved it. Bridges, trees and buildings look like they are popping out of the landscape. I seen a lot of locations that I recognize. It's just great and one of the best ways to do VFR flying, yet the scenery still looks great from FL320, in an airliner, when the clouds open up.

No Winter textures? I stopped reading right there. The world isn't green 365 days a year. I mean its like developing the NGX and being told that its only available to fly at night!

Sorry, the screens are beautiful and I'd be willing to work without Autogen but if there are no winter textures..............

Got Michigan today, and built temporay Minnneapolis Minnesota area photoreal for Wisconsin as I am only 30 miles from Wisconsin. Also gonna create sbuilderx Temporary Southern Ontario photoreal for the Michigan download. Like Indiana and Kentucky area the best for 2.0 Evansville area is cool. Making a basic riverboat Casino for Evansville IN. Building the Casino in Z-modeler first then use gmax to convert it as perfer one texture or two textures per object. Get the instant scenery churchs and watertowers not wasted in the midwest they work real well.

There doesn's 'appear' to be any discount for owners of v1 products :-(

...which stinks. I bought some v.1 California scenery a while back and hated it. Took it off after 1 day and never used it again.

Me too. I bought the whole state of California, spent 4 days downloading it, half a day installing it, one day flying in it, then 2hrs uninstalling it. It's pretty disappointing, especially after seeing the very high res CoCal scenery.
