January 26, 201313 yr You guys are talking about the old versions. The new v.2 scenery is beautiful. It doesn't need autogen because the houses, trees, and some of the lower buildings already look like they are popping out of the scenery. The v.2 is so much better than the old version, but right now only covers the eastern USA, as they seem to be working their way westward. CA, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, are all older products. The new MegaSceneryEarth v.2 does not change any of your settings like the older MegaScenery did. I have MegaScenery CA also, and the v.2 is light years better in quality. It is still "photoscenery", but has a 3D quality to it. So some may still not like photoscenery, but I'm sold on MSE and don't even want to fly small aircraft where I don't have either MSEv.2 or Orbx scenery.Places that have just GEX or UTX look so blah now. It also looks great from FL320 with a large airliner, when the clouds break open. Robert Yunque
January 27, 201313 yr I seem to be having a problem with New York 001 (download) ... it downloads fine, but when I unzip it (7-zip) I get a CRC error ... the file does extract but the CRC has me concerned. Seems to be only with New York 001, the other New York files are fine. Anyone else have a problem with New York 001?

January 27, 201313 yr I don't mind photoreal scenery without autogen provided its complimented with addons that are detailed with tons of autogens or large area airports like fly Tampa (Kait Tak/Dubai) I would love to have photo scenery for middle east deserts. Even Texas..provided I had Houston, Austin and San Antonio city and airport sceneries. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
January 27, 201313 yr Got Michigan today, and built temporay Minnneapolis Minnesota area photoreal for Wisconsin as I am only 30 miles from Wisconsin. Also gonna create sbuilderx Temporary Southern Ontario photoreal for the Michigan download. Like Indiana and Kentucky area the best for 2.0 Evansville area is cool. Making a basic riverboat Casino for Evansville IN. Building the Casino in Z-modeler first then use gmax to convert it as perfer one texture or two textures per object. Get the instant scenery churchs and watertowers not wasted in the midwest they work real well. How do you like Michigan? I am planning on getting it as it is my home state. Does the lack of 3D trees detract from the look of the scenery or is the effect OK?

I have no doubts that the V2 scenery is good at altitude, but at what altitude? No pure photo scenery is going to make low-level and airport ops look 3D without something to add dimension when you're close to the ground. Scott

Scott Actually, I was in an airport in the Tennessee scenery and it looked real good from the ground because of the mountains in the distance. They looked just like it really does. This MSEv.2 looks real good at about 1500 ft., like someone said above. I seem to be having a problem with New York 001 (download) ... it downloads fine, but when I unzip it (7-zip) I get a CRC error ... the file does extract but the CRC has me concerned. Seems to be only with New York 001, the other New York files are fine. Anyone else have a problem with New York 001? A few times, if I was doing something else on the computer while it was downloading, it corrupted the zip file. As long as I just download, I haven't had any problems. New York all downloaded fine for me. No Winter textures? I stopped reading right there. The world isn't green 365 days a year. I mean its like developing the NGX and being told that its only available to fly at night! Sorry, the screens are beautiful and I'd be willing to work without Autogen but if there are no winter textures.............. JH I don't miss winter textures. I don't like the way they look anyway and the summer textures make me feel better. I've seen enough winter gloom. Robert Yunque
January 27, 201313 yr Bought a couple of States to start and I do like it....bought a few more since. Also got myself some Objects from OpenVFR covering the States I have. They work well together:- http://openvfr.freyt.de/magento/index.php/downloads/openvfr-objects/openvfr-objects-north-america.html Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Above 1500 agl the trees you wont notice them as shadows from the photographs creates a 3d effect, not like google earth. V2 photoreal it been edited and recolored not prefect 100%, but it way better than gex or bluesky setups. They editied the photoreal scenery not just cut and paste job.
January 27, 201313 yr v2 may indeed be very good, but considering how much the entire state of CA was in v1, to give no discount at all is, IMO, bang out of order, to the point of being greedy. January 27, 201313 yr Why is it called the World Series when the rest of the world wasn't invited? Why is the winner of the SuperBowl called the World Champion when the rest of the world wasn't invited? It is called marketing. I don't pay attention to it..... Cheers Kinda like the United Kingdom. Kingdom, really now! How about United Islands. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .

If you guys are enjoying the new states so much (popping out realism), how about a few screenies showing your very best/most realistic views? I can understand no Winter textures (it's all based on what was actually photographed way back when), but no autogen and no night textures leaving me 25% of the time I can fly (don't forget they use night textures to make dawn and dusk). thx, Clutch Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) January 27, 201313 yr Also, I noticed that MSE will change the FSX.CFG regardless of whether or not I check/uncheck the recommended option to allow these changes. MSE will add the following: FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 MESH_RESOLUTION=22 TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=25 I have most of the East Coast to Chicago and I have not seen this. It was in the old version but not in the latest. Just install and go fly. IMHO, autogen should be turned off. It will just kill this beautiful scenery. In Chicago, the city appears with many of the buildings as well as the default buildings in NYC and Philadelphia. The scenery blends in well with addon commercial airports and scenery too (such as TropicalSims KDCA and Taxi2Gate KSTL). Autogen is a known resource hog especially if you have it above the norm. January 27, 201313 yr Thanks Jim, good to know V2 doesn't make any changes to my FSX.CFG ... I'm about to Install some new V2's today (finally got most of them downloaded) ... for a compare of GEX and MSE. What I usually do is: 1. Backup my FSX.CFG before I do any 3rd party install 2. Run a product called "UltraCompare" on the FSX.CFG and my backup FSX.CFG to see what got changed (if anything) A lot of 3rd party products make changes without notification. I realize they make these changes based on their experience for those systems they've tested on, but as we all know, an FSX.CFG is VERY hardware specific and can have other very specific entries unique to that consumers environment. It's unlikely a 3rd party test system will be the same as an end user's system. IMHO, I'd prefer 3rd Party products NOT modify the FSX.CFG unless it's absolutely necessary. IF necessary, 3rd Party should inform the consumer of exactly what was changed and why. 3rd Party should NEVER make the assumption that their product is the ONLY product installed on the consumer's PC. My FSX.CFG has many many many hours of hard work and testing specific to my system, I protect it like Family It's unfortunate that the FSX.CFG is like this, but it's the reality of working with FSX this many years after release ... it's a requirement for people to know their FSX.CFG if they want to get FSX working well. As far as Autogen being a resource hog, that depends on the system and other factors/settings. For example I can max Autogen with GEX in same area and get 60 fps, install MSE over that area and I get 51 fps. Now I can modify my FSX.CFG and recover that 9 fps for MSE areas but in my case Autogen isn't the resource hog. However, to be noted that MSE at altitude is stunning and provides 100 fps (which means I can toss just about any number of layers of weather at my flight). Don't get me wrong, I love my MSE and as soon as I get above 1500 ft it is an awesome sight (even the V1 scenery). I've primarily always been a west coast (US) flyer from San Diego to Seattle all MSE - but now that MSE is on the East coast, I'll being expanding my horizons. I'll post some video/pics later - it is VERY nice. But please, leave my FSX.CFG alone I'm still having a hard time getting Fraps to work well with FSX even on a 6 core system (worse case is I have to actually run HDMI out to capture on another PC to retain frame rates).

If not video at least some screen shots. It is a shame about no night textures, but I can understand why, that would effectively double the work required (pushing MSE prices from $40 to $80 for New York) and more importantly what would they use as a source? Here is a good link of making scenery (just for day of a single island): http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?250762-How-to-create-photoreal-scenery-for-FSX This is just one island ... so if anyone thinks MSE (or others) are greedy, I'd suggest you give this process a go and see how much time it takes you. But the quote I really enjoyed reading is ... So, one day in the near future when 250TB hard drives will be available, we can easily put the entire planet in photoreal LOD16 on one single hard drive. And for FSX that would need to be a 250TB SSD 6GB/s drive(s) if you want to a fluid flying experience.
