Possible to disable the light on the Saitek yoke?

Featured Replies

Is there a way to turn off the neon green LED panel on the Saitek Pro Flight System yoke?

Vic

Hi

I would just buy myself some black electrical tape and cover it up. It is possible to open the yoke and disconnect a wire or two but why bother. That way you can have the use of the clock later by just removing the tape....................John

You can't disable the light using a method other than what John said.

Thanks,

Bit of "Frog tape" (Dark green, very thick masking tape) so you peel it off any-time without leaving any residue.

Why would you want to cover it though? Its not very bright, and not in the line of sight, and is handy to have a clock when in full screen mode too :-)

We call that Duck Tape (or more properly duct tape) in the US. An army friend called it "hundred mile an hour tape" due to the speed at which it was used.

When I'm flying at night with the lights off, I have Postit notes covering all visible LEDs on my system. Even the slight light from an LED is incredibly bright and distracting when everything else is dark. I use a red LED off to one side to illuminate the keyboard, with a piece of cardboard shielding the LED from my eyes.

When I first read about the clock on that yoke I thought it was a great idea. I didn't realize that it might be such a problem in a dark room.

If you intend to use the LED panel again, Postit notes make a good temporary cover. Any tape you use will leave a nasty residue. Duck Tape will leave a *really* nasty residue.

Mine stopped after a few months.. how to turn it back on ?

Duct tape is Silver, and SERIOUSLY sticky, whereas I'm talking about actual masking tape, the stuff painters use, its called frog tape, and its really thick, but peels off easily.

Does an awesome job of preventing paint bleeding under the tape too when your actually using it for painting..

I say Frog-tape because regular masking tape is white/cream, so will be visible even at night, and is often not thick enough to block out the light, and electrical tape, while perfect, will often leave that sticky residue behind when removed.

Don't worry, the light might just stop working on it's own anyway! :P

Seriously though, my LED worked fine for a few months, than it started flickering, annoyingly so. I put some masking tape over it, and a couple months later I checked it, and the backlighting had stopped working altogether. I can still see the timer, so good riddance!

Yeah, I do most of my flying in a dark room, at night. So that glaring light is very distracting. I also have the yoke plugged into its own power supply, so it stays on even if I've turned everything else off. Sometimes I don't feel like squeezing over into the corner to get to the power disconnect just for the yoke, so I leave it on; but then the light is an annoyance if you are doing anything else in the room, like watching a movie.

Good idea. I have some blue tape like that around somewhere. Think I'll go with that.

Well, I've had it for a couple of years. Haven't been simming daily all that time, but it's seen several months' worth of action at least. Still works as good as new.

I saw so much green Duck Tape in the Army that I thought it was all that color. I just noticed that the stuff on the arm of my chair is silver.

Frog tape, used for masking purposes, would be just about perfect, as it couldn't leave a residue.

Ya, me too

just wait, after a few months use, the wires from the yoke to the base will snap one by one as they're solid and turn brittle, if you're lucky the clock will go first, unlucky like me and it will be the buttons one by one

Lol I bought a second hand yoke, after a year still working without problems.

Just find the wires for the back light, splice in a toggle switch mounted to the back of yoke and then you can turn it off and on as needed.

Hmm.. I might have to do this.
