December 13, 201213 yr Hi I am not sure if this is the correct place to be posting this, so feel free to move it if needed. I recently started playing FSX and now am addicted. I have been downloading Aircraft from the File Library and have a question on a few that act up. First is the Lockheed 9 Orion - orion_v1.zip - The propeller is just a black saucer. Second is the Beechcraft B1900D - b19alabx.zip - Missing gauges and black gauges. Third is the Evektor EV-55 - ev-55_outback_fsx.zip - Black gauges/screens. Last but not least, how do you do about deleting a plane that was installed with a .exe? Thanks
December 13, 201213 yr Are you sure you are installing FSX airplanes?? Many in the file library are FS-9 only. You need to make sure of that fact before anything else. Missing gauges and blank instruments might (maybe?? someone??) be an indicator of that. If I remember correctly it can also be an indicator of missing files. You ought to be able to delete airplanes using the Control Panel/Add-delete programs window otherwise navigate to the Simobjects/airplanes folder in the main root FSX folder and then delete away there. You might need to find the gauges in their folder too (not in front of my FS computer right now) to delete them too. IMHO, leaving the gauges in place will not hurt anything--although others will probably differ. You could just leave the offending airplanes in the program and simply not open them (lazy way out but it works). December 13, 201213 yr Do you have SP 1 & 2 installed? i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
December 13, 201213 yr Some planes are 'portovers' from FS9 to FSx and the black prop is an indication of that, it has to do with the 'alpha channel' as I recall.. Some have fixes, some dont'. Jay
December 13, 201213 yr IMHO life is too short to fly poor quality freeware planes. Delete them in the Windows Control Panel (Programs/Uninstall a program) or if they do not appear in the list of installed programs it is normally safe to simply the delete the relevant folder in Simobjects/Airplanes. There are few freeware aircraft that can match the experience of quality payware, of which the best include PMDG, VRS, RealAir Simulations, A2A Simulations, Carenado; the list is very long. If you search this forum you will find many suggestions for worthwhile freeware as well. My favorites include Ants Tiger Moth, Dino Cattaneo's F-14 & T-45C Goshawk. December 13, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the help. I will just delete the ones that do not work and look for more quality freeware until I am ready for payware.
December 13, 201213 yr Hi, There are a few really worthwhile freeware aircraft for FSX, Ant's De Havilland tiger moth being one that springs to mind. There is a reasonable HS748 on the Classic British Flight Sim site too Like you I spent some time adding freeware aircraft, most now deleted as they weren't up to payware standards, although all of them better than I could have done! I have found unless they have an installer, and can be deleted in add/remove programs, I just delete them from the Simobjects/aircraft folder. I don't delete all the gauges, effects and sound, they just live a life of obscurity in the files of my PC! Happy flying, Happy Flying, Dave Phillips.
December 14, 201213 yr Commercial Member Last but not least, how do you do about deleting a plane that was installed with a .exe? You can run the installer again, but this time direct it to install into a temporary folder. (It's a good idea to do this all the time anyway and move the files into your sim installation manually if, and only if, everything looks OK) Go into the temp folder after installing and see what files were placed where and delete them from your sim installation. If you I want to seriously reinforce what Virtualwombat has said. You may (almost certainly will find) that quality payware far surpasses all but a few freeware airplanes and the payware models are almost guaranteed to work properly from the "get-go". I'm going to urge you to look at payware first, not last. Don't start with any heavy metal--try a GA single or twin first. The heavies can be quite overwhelming at first. Your enjoyment of the hobby will be greatly enhanced by using quality products from responsible manufacturers. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
December 14, 201213 yr Author What are some good sites for payware? And what do single planes run in price? I also prefer to fly small to mid size prop and jets rather than the big jets. Not saying I wont fly a 747 but I prefer the smaller stuff.
December 14, 201213 yr I also prefer to fly small to mid size prop and jets rather than the big jets. Have a look at Carenado- They are having a sale at the minute and they do great GA aircraft The PMDG J41 is a great turboprop, but its very advanced and hard for beginners. Remember that if you decide to buy a PMDG that there will be a lot of learning, but if in doubt there are plenty of great Youtube tutorials for it Will Torrens
December 14, 201213 yr In my opinion the B737 NGX from PMDG is the best by far. I am not sure about the price but it is worth 10 times
