December 18, 201213 yr Hey! I have a problem at SBRJ Rio de Janeiro. My AI aicraft B737 and Airbus 319, maybe some other as well, don't take off before the end of the runway. How can I solve this problem? Is there a special air-file or something which makes them rotate earlier? OK, there is no crash, but it simply isn't nice to see the aircraft running till an end in the water before they rotate.... Does anybody know a solution? Greetz Jive1
December 18, 201213 yr Do you have flaps properly set for take off? Also is the trim set properly for take off? Sorry. I hust noticed you said AI aircraft. I need coffee.
December 18, 201213 yr Hello Jive1, What you want to modify is in the aircraft cfg. [TurbineEngineData] static_thrust= You'll want to increase static thrust by about 1000-2000 for twin engine 737, a320 family aircraft.
December 18, 201213 yr Do those types of planes really operate off of 4000 foot runways? regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
December 18, 201213 yr Quite why you're trying to fly a B737 and Airbus 319 out of an airport with a rwy of only 1,330 meters in length is rather odd! The only way you're going to get either a/c off the ground is to fly minimum load factors. There's no need to alter airfiles or cfg. Alll you need to do is dump passengers and fuel. December 18, 201213 yr "Runway too short?" Yes. Runways are only 4341 and 4134 feet long (short?) OK to land using reversers but difficult to take off fully loaded.
December 18, 201213 yr I do see many pictures on the net of those types at that airport. As said, must operate out of there way below MTOW. I believe that AI only uses empty weight so you could try lowering that in the aircraft.cfg. As always, back up the file first. I wonder if there is a STOL kit for a B737? regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
December 18, 201213 yr It would be nice if the Thread starter's post was read carefully before posting, he is talking about AI not himself flying there. Also, a319/a320, 737-700/800 for Avianca, Gol, Tam etc operate regular commercial service into that airport. Also to the OP, it is something you may have to ignore if you don't want to make all your AI 737/A320 aircraft STOL aircraft. Although there is always the option of making separate individual aircraft folders for aircraft STOL version of your AI aircraft. E.g. I have a regular folder for my all my AI Q400 aircraft and I have a separate folder for an STOL version of Porter's Q400 that fly into CYTZ which has a very short runway and steep ILS approach.
December 18, 201213 yr It's not hard to make a separate STOL version of your AI aircraft. All you need to do is to increase "static_thrust" in the aircraft.cfg (e.g. 30000) and increase the reverser effectiveness (line 313, I use -45) in the .air file.
December 19, 201213 yr wonder if there is a STOL kit for a B737? Short-field Performance Package is an option in the iFly aircraft, so I guess so.
December 19, 201213 yr yes the SFP was made especially for SBRJ, on request from GOL boeing developed it
December 19, 201213 yr Author Goodmorning Al! It is fine to see that so many reactions came on my thread. I already tried to increase static thrust, and it works! Already I have an Airbus 319 of GOL that makes it now, but Static Thrust is only on 25000. I will do some more tests up to 30000 and see what results. There remains however that question: should I increase Thrust of all those AI aircraft 737 and 219 and 320 and possibly some more , so that automatically they all wil arrive to take off on all shorter airways wherever thy will have to? Indeed, some AI aircraft that come at SBRJ will also have other versions that fly to other airports and visa versa. But we are going to the right solution for my problem, and that's fine! What's that STOL set? Where to find? Greetz Jive1
December 19, 201213 yr Author Hey! Meanwhile I was experimenting with static thrust and with fuel quantity and with station load. All three of them give remarkable effects. Playing on all three of them made me the737-700 aircraft to take off on almost mid runway. So, I have various possibilities for reducing the runway length needs. Now one last question: Which is most preferably according to AI aircraft? I can of course play on all three of the items, but maybe there is possibly one which is the best for AI aircraft? Greetz Jive1
December 19, 201213 yr Author Hey! Last experiments... All my AI 319's en AI 737's that land ant take off at SBRJ can now take off at about 10% of the length of the runway before the utmost end. So... That is safe enough! I played on all three items, thrust, load and fuel for each of the aircraft. Greetz Jive1
December 20, 201213 yr Isn't 10% of 4000 feet only 400 feet? Is a 400-foot take-off realistic? I mean, I guess if you like seeing very short take-offs, that's up to you. Or is it just the way you worded it that's confusing me. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
