Curious about the EFB (Electronic Flight Bag)

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any intel on if my new PDMG 777 will be equipped with a working EFB? If so, how detailed might we anticipate it be?

Yep it'll have one, whether it's on release, who knows. Well - Rob does lol. No news or anything on it, sure we'll get some previews and details when it's complete. That's if they're still doing it like they said last March.

Im really hoping for a shared cockpit feature... This will be an amazing tool for instruction for new pilots.

Shared cockpit have been seen before in FSX tho

Didn't Ryan say it wouldn't be on the initial release, but would be added after? (it being the EFB ). Or am I wrong?

It will definitely have an EFB. However, it won't come with any charts. I believe you have to buy the charts of somewhere like Navigraph as PDF files where they can be viewed from your EFB on FSX.

Coming back to the perfomance calculator in the EFB, I doubt PMDG will integrate that on the EFB but I hope they will

They could make it to where you can insert any PDF file so you can use the free FAA charts for US flying.

It would be very difficult to make the moving map work tho.

I wonder if it will be a popup with avilasoft efb maybe.

The performance calculator is the main thing i am looking forward to using on the T7 if it does come with an EFB.

I think that the EFB is mandatory in a 777 even if, pity, I am pretty sure it won't be in. :(

I still don't understand why everyone is so worked up about the EFB. Trying to view charts inside the sim would just be worthless (especially at the zoom levels most of you run). Good luck with trying to keep them up to date with the prices some of the data people charge. I can get every airport in the United States, plus every single chart - hi/lo/vfr - for $75 on my iPad (for a full year). With Navigraph, that would get me 286 airports (per cycle - 28 days), and that's not including the cost of the en route charts.

So, charts are out.

Taxi situation map? Difficult without charts - and what scenery do you have?

Weather and NOTAMS? Could be nice.

Airport familiarization? Difficult without charts - see above.

Documents/Ops Manual? Great! Someone might actually read the manual, but I'd prefer to just read it in a full screen, instead of scrunched on a small screen within a screen.

Video? Sure. Tail view. Don't get me started on the cabin views...

Logbook? That would actually be kinda cool, and I'm guessing relatively easy to implement, as they did it with the NGX (just without the logbook to show the hours accumulated - they're stored in the .ini file)

Performance calculations would make a ton of sense, and would be nice.

...and the EFB is not mandatory for the 777. They did without it for years. Do you remember what laptops looked like in the early 90s??? That wasn't even getting to touch pads and tablet high resolution displays (heck, high resolution wasn't even on people's minds back then - laser and compact were the cool terms, and even then the 'compact' of that time wasn't exactly compact).

+1 - the PFD and ND are already much smaller to view on screen than in real life, which is why I like the fact you can undock them on the NGX so much. Hopefully that will be carried over to the T7. That being the case, why would you want to rotate your view around to look at an EFB? What Kyle says is much more sensible...

@Kyle - would love to know where you're getting all that chart data for such a neat price! Europe version available? :D

The EFB should be wired and integrated with Sim Plates X. That could help PMDG win a great deal more customers over Captain Sim. Personally I would purchase Sim Plates X it they were going to do this. Same with QWsim 787
