What's your best freeware recommendations for XP10

Hi guys,

Now I'll admit to not flying X-Plane as much as I like, but I enjoy it when I get a chance. Now while I'm aware of some of the great pay ware products out there, from the fantastic 777 and 727 and of course the beautiful Oahu scenery. But the other night I got to thinking about freeware and I wondered, what's the best.

So what's your recommendations, what's good and where do I get it?

Best wishes,

Jess B

Hi Jessica

Try Morten's Piper Archer. By far, the best freeware add on for X-Plane.

You have loads of airplanes at x-plane.org, x-aviation.com. I'd suggest any from Morten, like the famous Archer:

designed for v9, but working, at least in the 32 bit version of X-Plane10

And of course, the IL-14 by Felis, now freeware, but only for the 32 bit version of X-Plane10 - it's a Masterpiece!!!!!

watch a video here:

Search for the download link... I don't have it anymore :-(

Shhhh: and... try DCS World one of these days ;-)

Goran, thank you. I'll take a look.

Jcomm, oh if I had the time. Dcs is on my radar, but I'm strapped for time in my office. So many sims, so little time.

Best wishes,

I'd take a look at after's Falcon 7x. It's here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=8946

HPM has some beautiful and weird offerings here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showuser=5347

Here's a decent Tomahawk: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=11697

An Antonov AN-2: http://x-plane.hu/an2/

Look at devs Ddenn and Felis.

And of course there's the QPAC A320 and x737 project.

There's plenty out there. There's also plenty of garbage. Have fun sorting through it.

Hi Jessica,

The B-17 from Khamsin is good freeware. Not sure how well it works with XP10 64bit though.

P.S Hurrah, another Welsh simmer, I knew there was more of us!

These are my two favourites.....you could put wings on them if you like...they might get off the ground and fly, or just stay on the ground. Personally, I don't like to fly in Xplane, it just doesn't feel right....(joke people calm down) :P

So far, I think nobody has mentioned freeware airports/scenery. I'm new enough to Xplane but have spent a lot of time researching. I'd recommend (most from X-plane.org unless stated):

1. Adelaide Airport by Chris K

2. Toronto cityscape, airport and orthos (Chris K and others - search on the x-pilot website for scenery and Chris gives links to all the files needed)

3. Seattle 2.0 and Plausible CBD 1.4 - two seperate files for Seattle which create an amazingly detailed cityscape which looks breathtaking at night (would like to see other cities done like this :-)

4. KPHL (Philadelphia) a conversion of FS9 scenery for city and airport by SunnySky with their permission. Looks very impressive!

5. Boston Logan International - an FS9 conversion which was one of the best freeware airports in FS9 and now one of the best in Xplane

6. Madiera airport and island/buildings by XPFR. Incredible freeware airport.

7. Google Alpilotx who has a website with incredibel donationware scenery for the entire New Zealand using government sourced GIS info and HD mesh. It looks incredible.

8. Any airports by Chris K - I'm still discovering them :-)

Anybody else got some other recommendations. I would like to know also. What I am looking for as well are cars so I can drive around the scenery. The ones I've found on x-plane.org have not been very good and spin out of control way too easily.

Wow thanks guys. Plenty to get into then.

Steve, thanks. That's quite a list.

And Rhydian, shu mai Bach, there are more of us than people think, especially when it comes the the FSC Weston show in may. :-)

For more sceneries, Ted's stuff is nice--

http://www.theosdavis.com/xpfiles/downloads_v10.html

Several major airports, along with some notable buildings in the major cities the airports represent. Some of the stuff dates back to earlier XP versions, but he's constantly updating them to keep them current.

Bendegedig! Yes definatley going to FSC Weston this year. Went to the flight sim show in Cardiff a few years back, that was really good too. I think their combined now into FSC Weston. Sould be a good show.

Cheers

Chris K is a genius, his freeware addons look like payware.....go get them :drinks:

Older thread but the Eclipse 550 and Piaggio Avanti II is pretty good. The Piaggio doesn't have a great flight model (IMHO) but it's decent inside and out .
