New American Airline Logo and Paint Scheme

Featured Replies

If you look to all the past liveries there has always been the AA with the eagle in some form. This is the first without it and a lot of people think that is wrong. That is one more thing that makes me wonder if this is the agreed upon livery between US Airways and AA for the merged airline. That's just a theory not based on anything know as fact.

  • I think it is an attempt to make a lasting impression through annoyance. Every time I see that livery I will hear Gilbert Gottfried screaming "AFLAC!" silently. Now you will too.

Nobody bought nobody just yet. Everything is still speculation.

Should the merger go through, it will be US buying AA, not the other way around. AA will probably be the surviving brand, because they are better known around the world. That does NOT mean AA is or will be buying US, they don't have the cash to do so.

That's uneducated speculation, actually. Mergers and acquisitions take place every day without cash changing hands, the UA-CO merger for example was purely a stock swap. And as previously mentioned, AA has plenty of cash on hand in any event. I do agree that AA will be the surviving brand on the account that US has almost no brand identity outside of the country.

My personal feeling is that we will merge with US Airways. Our unions and companies are already meeting and coming to agreements on proposals for a combined pilots contract. For all we know this new paint job could be what the two companies have agreed upon for the merger. The big question would be is US Airways going to buy us, will we buy them or will there be some kind of mutual agreement between the two airlines. We will all find out soon enough.

It's the worst kept secret in the airline industry right now. It's certainly not a question of it, but of when. I think both airlines need it for long term viability.

I saw one of our 777-300s in the new paint in DFW yesterday. It doesn't look bad but I still don't think the new livery projects "American Airlines". The other -300 is sitting over at the old Delta hangar. It still has no livery on it. It just painted all silver.

The tail stripes look a mess and just what is that logo up front supposed to represent?

Change is always resisted, but this has the look of the BA world tails fiasco about it.

The problem here is that based on the past I feel our management team is too arrogant to accept that the new look is largely not being well received, and not just by the airlines's employees.

AA is not the only one, there was a large employee uproar when United chose their new icon but Smisek brushed off the complaints. The United shield or also known as the "tulip" was a major Chicago icon like just like the Cubs and a Vienna Beef hotdog. Yes the video below doesn't fit well in an AA inspired thread but I couldn't help but post it.

Hopefully AA keeps this safety video though.

On my recent flight with AA, after that safety video, we were shown a video about how American is getting new and modern airplanes, and how they wiil have the youngest and largest fleet in the US. It also said that they're upgrading all their planes, which I thought was ironic since I was sitting in a old @$$ 767-300 with no video entertainment for a 8+ hour flight.

The cabin is getting a revamp from what I see but imagine sitting on a Lufthansa A340 going from China to Germany with no PTV lol, AA isn't the only one who is slow to catch up on cabin tech.

It's true the "tulip"logo was iconic but I don't believe there has ever been an AA livery that didn't have the AA and eagle in the history of the airline. A lot of people around here believe this new image is Tom Horton's last ditch effort to try to show he should remain in control of this airline. I don't think he would be missed if he was gone though.

They missed the mark on the silver. It's a bit too much on the grey side. I flew one the other day when it was cloudy and rainy everywhere we went and the plane just looks grey. You can't see the metallicness to it at unless you are right next to it. The livery is not my favorite but this is what it's going to be so I've decided to accept it.

I thought the same when I first saw the design.  The tail has strong echoes of US Airways stars and stripes logo.  I'm not sure what the red white and blue design is meant to be up front, but I'm sure some form of the AA eagle would have looked better.

Would this change again after the AA-US Air merger is completed?
