January 18, 201313 yr It's pretty much like almost every other airline in the world...no creativity here, just following the crowd. hover lover, but...round motors rock and taildraggers rule!
January 18, 201313 yr I guess from a marketing POV [the tail] stands out from the crowd and will be easily identifiable long into the future. I think you've hit on it right there. Given the problems AA has been having, they might want to raise awareness of the airline and possibly of the number of planes they have deployed. People will be able to pick out an AA plane in a group by seeing only a tiny portion of that tail. The overall effect will be to make American look strong. I mean, you'll see that tail even if you aren't looking for it. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
January 18, 201313 yr I love my country and I fought to protect my flag but this livery is a bit over the top. Tail is waaay too busy and waaay too big. Reminds me of a July 4th party favor.
January 18, 201313 yr I would have preferred this. Tim B.PMDG 747-8i | MD-11 | J41 | NGX | 777-300ER LDS 767 | MJS Q400 | AS A319/320 | Activesky Next The Ultimate Global Tours : FSHostclient IP : 99.233.119.14
January 18, 201313 yr It's funny how every time I see the new livery, I like it more and more. And even funnier that some people complaining about how garish the tail looks have aircraft in their signatures that are just as bad. It's not the understated elegance of Air Force One. It's more Andy Warhol than Vermeer. But the way people are reacting, you'd think it was Edvard Munch or Picasso. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! January 18, 201313 yr Not horrible. Probably still prefer the previous livery but it's already starting to grow on me.
January 18, 201313 yr I used to not like the UNITED livery but now it has grown on me. Maybe this one will too. When will American retire the MD80's? - Jay Hutchinson
January 18, 201313 yr The old Bare Metal was a classic, but I realise they can't keep it on the new aircraft such as 787 and maybe even A320. The fuselage of the new livery is classy, and that new logo looks good. First time I saw the tail was a bit of an "OMG" moment and I was well on the "put your new logo on the tail" bandwagon. here's an example of such an idea: http://farm9.staticf..._7d822af971.jpg However the more I look at the new tail, the less I hate it, and it certainly is a lot more iconic than just sticking their logo there. Red white and blue stripes, almost an actual American flag. But there's no "Stars" and stripes, just red and white stripes with a bit of blue and white stripes in the corner. There's detail in the red white and blue too, some shades of red inside the red stripes. Light blue graduating to dark blue in opposition. Here's an NGX in the livery: http://www.jetphotos....php?id=7541329 Pay careful attention to the blue stripes on the tail. The tail certainly leaves no doubt where the aircraft comes from.
