FSX/DX10 is my new sim

Featured Replies

Good morning to all the DX10 simmers and all that have broought FSX / DX10 to the point that i is today. i now have a balanced system that runs DX10 at 28 / 29.9 FPS and this is mainly from the help of two simmer Steve Parsons for the tweaks (that works very well!!) and Paul J for giving us the information as it come to him. I have a lot to learn and with these people on board DX10 and simming is going to be a simmers delight!

Ths one thing that i have learned is to have a balanced system. Take a look at my computer specs and some might and will say that I have over kill on my system. It runs well with all of my scenery packs and planes. Now with planes my PMDG FPS will drop to 25 to 26 but without any stutters and the grapics are great :yahoo: Now to fix the PMDG issues all I have to do is play with the bufferpool and tweak it to bring the FPS up. So when you put a system togeather for FSX always keep in mind BALANCE BALANCE BALANCE your system. I took the advise on what was needed to build my rig and added one other item which was the the two SLI Nvidea 580 / 3GBvideo ram on each card and very fast ram I can now run (3) 27" monitors without useing a Tripple Head 2 Go. Life is great but in my case it wouldn't have been so great with out the help that I have receoved from this forum and the great people that stay up all hours to being this sport to the point that we see it today. My :hi: is off to these fine gentlmen!! Thank you and i will always be greatfull to you all :yahoo:

Hi Les,

What are you currently running your buffer pools ? I have a similar setup and now running DX10 pretty well but the PMDG 737NGX is pretty hard on FPS when in VC. I couldn't use Poolsize=0 as I couldn't stop the visual tearing so I ended using a poolsize=2097152 and RejectThreshold=131072

I'd be interested to see if I can get the FPS a little higher on the NGX. The one thing I just can't seem to get right is AI traffic. I have tried both MyTraffic & Traffic X but both really kill FPS even with 10 - 15 % settings. I have kinda given up on that eye candy for the moment and have been flying without AI traffic

After I first did the DX10 conversion my results were horrible but I persevered with tweaking my inspector settings and have got a pretty good result.

Hi Richard,

TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096

This what my maxload is set at

[bufferPools]

Bufferpools=1

PoolSize=10485760

RejectThreshold=524288 // 262144 // 131072 // 262144 // 524288 //

Above is the bufferpool size that I am currenytly running. Keep in mind the // signs mean that they are remmed out and the values are not read or loaded when the cfg file is loaded.

I am in hopes this will help you out. Also I have tweaked my Inspector to accomedte the SLI cards.

Will it increase FPS? I may give it a shot

Hi Les,

Great that you are really happy with FSX/DX10. It's interesting that your

graphics are 2x GTX 580 in SLI. I've only just recently seen a few people

having improved results with SLI.

I might have tried that by adding another to my GTX 570, but after a lot of

heart searching I took the risk of buying a GTX 680 classified 4GB, knowing

the perceived wisdom has always been to go for a faster CPU.

I'm more than delighted with the results. Before, the cpu was flat out, and

the 570 was at 99%. Now the cpu runs cooler with a little less load, and the

big 680 cruises at around 50%.

I thought I'd add my different route and experience for those that might

follow. Like you, I've never been happier with FSX right now.

My computer specs are in my Sig, but I have an i7 2600K o'clocked to 4.9GHz,

and a GTX card as above, running 3x 22" monitors.

I've just reinstalled FSX into a separate drive, with GEX, UTX, FS Global

Ultimate, Ult Traffic, Active Sky 2012, Orbx PNW, Orbx England, UK2000

Airports.

Step by step, I checked all textures have alpha channels and mipmaps. I

followed Word Not Allowed's guide to the letter, as with Paul J's invaluable "How to"

Doc

.

I have Low, medium, and High profiles in Nvidia Inspector, thanks again to

Paul. I have AlacrityPC reducing as many of my background stuff as I can be

sure is safe.

I have two FSX configs, for less demanding aircraft, and more demanding

(mostly more glass is more demanding).

What I haven't seen anyone else settle for, is to set in Inspector, Vertical

Sync at 1/3 Refresh Rate. I had fps set at 30 with VS 1/2 Refresh Rate, but

couldn't hold that at Seattle or London. With VS 1/3 Refresh Rate, and

21fps, I see 20.9 everywhere. I can detect no difference in smoothness nor

aircraft handling between 30fps, and 20.

I do test flights at Seattle, and London, especially London, very much my

worst previous no go area. I tend to fly GA aircraft, helicopters, and

corporate jets for flying fast and high. So far I have only a few aircraft

in my hangar, as I've continued to test.

The FT Embraer Phenom 100, F1 Citation Mustang, and QW Avro RJ100, need my

low settings.

The ND EC135, RA Lancair Legacy, FSND Citation X, LH Epic LT Dynasty, RA

Turbine Duke, and ES Citation CJ1X, JF HS 800 BizJet, all run perfectly on high settings.

For anyone interested, I have a folder with all my FSX settings and the two

configs in Dropbox. I'll put a link below, and hope it works. Dropbox no longer seems to provide a "get link" choice.

Soon as someone gets that missing texture issue sorted for DX10 I'll be right onboard - even if it doesn't help FPS much the extra headroom against OOMs is a great thing indeed =).

Does anyone know if TileProxy will work under DX10?

Yep, I haven't had any problems at all using TileProxy with DX10. Have fun!

Lmao This is the never ending cycle. In the past few months, I've done FS9 then FSX, then FSX DX10, then FSX again then XP 10 and currently FSX with TP. Now, I want to try FSX DX10 with TP. Hahahah This is like crack!

This is interesting. Ive seen it before mentioned but no one comments on it. If it ends up being smoother and less jumping around its worth it. Not sure why everyone is obsessed with the highest FPS. All you need is somewhere in that range for smooth frames. Movies are 24 FPS. 20 is close enough as I to dont see a difference from 20 to 30.

Might have to try that 1/3 setting.
