Cross-Country Flight GA Payware Reccomendation

Featured Replies

So I'm going to do a cross country flight across the u.s in a GA aircraft. I was wondering If anyone has suggestions on the best GA Payware aircraft that would be good for it.

Requirements:

-Wings on top of the aircraft(excuse my nonpilot terminology) like on the c172, so sightseeing is good.

-Realistic aircraft movements and features

-Realistic in general (Takeoff speed, maneuvers, etc.)

So far I have checked out the Carenado Cessna 337, which looks good.

Any reccomendations would be great!

Yeah that's a good one. The legacy is what I'd recommend even though its low wing.

My first thought was the RealAir Legacy, but its wings grow out of the bottom.

I'd go for the C337, it's quite nice. I want to recommend their 208 as well, but it's VC is not as good as the 337, although everything else is on the same level.

A while ago I posted a screenshot of a bunch of GA vcs. I don't have everything but you can get an idea of what is what.

My top choices are all low wing too, they all have great FDEs, Visuals, systems depth and so on. Whatever you get, get A2A's Accu-feel if you don't have it already, it greatly enhances everything.

Baytower RV-7...low wing, but relatively short wing provides great visibility, it does everything, speedy IFR/VFR x-country, STOL, aerobatics.

RealAir Legacy...excellent too, quite good visibility too despite being a low wing.

Classics Hangar BF-108, excellent vintage german GA.

A2A Civil P-51...it is fast, and it is a warbird, and handles like one, so it requires a higher level of pilot skill. Once mastered, it is very awesome plane.

The Carenado 337 is pretty nice, good FDE, nice visuals, tho system depth isn't as deep as the ones above...for instance during run up, suction gauge indication is waaay off.

Cheers

Well, how fast do you want to go and how high do you want to fly? I assume that you want high wing for the view (if you're like me.) I like the 337. If you want to go faster and have the option for higher then the 208. I like both. You could go with the BN2 (might be a stretch) or you could wait for the MU2 from Milviz. There's also some taildraggers which I know zero about.

thanks for input everyone. The RealAir Scout looks like a fantastic plane so Ill go with that plane. Appreciate all the reccomendations, really helped!

Edit: Actually going to get either a Corenado C172 or Flight1 c172 but still open to all options

When I saw the title of your thread, I was going to suggest the C337. Interesting that you asked specifically about that aircraft.

The Skymaster is the airplane I've flown the most in FSX after the Goose.

If you wait a bit RealAir is coming out with a new C172. Their airplanes are first rate.

A2A and RealAir both have 172s in the works. Like Gregg, I would wait for either one of those, both will be top notch. The Carenado 172 is OK, FDE and systems modelling aren't as sharp as they should be. The VC night lighting isn't realistic....it uses the white dome light. The only time you turn that light on is after the flight when you want to find all the things you dropped on the floor lol.

ok, definetly will wait for a2a or realair. I have had only good experiences with them.Looked up the carenado c172 on youtube, I hate the white lighting.

F1 G1000 C182T.....one of the best IFR X-Country Planes out there for FSX, the G1000 is awesome.

+1 exactly my thoughts!

No reason to wait. You could be flying something interesting in the mean time. I'm waiting for the A2A C172 myself, but I still bought a couple of planes since I first heard about it... both from A2A :)

I would have recommended the A2A Cub with Accu-Sim, but flying cross-country at 68 knots isn't an avocation, it's a vocation.

My last cross-country was in a SeaRey, but that's not a recommendation. It's not much faster than the Cub.
