Lads! Go away with yer GE90's and Trent 800's, they got nothing on this bad boy! The PW4000-112

Skip to 1:30 for orgasmic sound ;)

Sorry pal, its all about those honking GE90s. It has the best start ups sounds especially when you are up close. The PW startup and RR are flat.

Ok, you got me there, with the start-up sounds. I've always loved the sound of a cow!

But once the GE's are up and running you have to be really up close to hear them while you don't have to be up close to a PW to hear its beautiful sounds. On the ramp you don't need hearing protections around those engines unless you are practically next to them but on a RR powered 757 those things will split your skull without good headsets.

What do ya mean. When I marshal the T7 in( Cathay 77W) the air is vibrating. The startup for the GE90 can be heard from my house which is almost 10km away. But I have to say there is a nice smoothness to the RR especially on the A330. Cheers!

I stand on the ramp and watch the JAL 773 (autodock, no marshaler) pull in on most days and those GE's make a low hum and a swooshing noise but the air doesn't vibrate at all while the opposite is true on startup. The RR makes a nice noise for the other 777's at the terminal but you don't want to be near a 757 lol

Only eight engines in the world are "orgasmic"!! Four RR Merlins attached to a Lancaster Bomber or here four RR Conways! nb they are not even at full throttle in this video.

If you've ever been properly buzzed by the Avro Vulcan with its 4 RR Olympus engines... Now that's an experience let me tell you.

If you've been at an air show back in the day where a full squadron of them took off my god that did things to your ears your body and your mind.
