February 12, 201313 yr Hey guys, I may be in the monority here, but I never use the HUD and therefore it occurred to me whether it was possible to somehow 'switch it off' and save frames. Sorry if it is a crazy question, but hey, it may be possible and I thought there may just bea slight chance... February 12, 201313 yr I believe the PMDG 737NGX Introduction Manual, page 0.00.58, will tell you everything you need. ^_^ For the impatient or illiterate: in the FMC menu there's an option under PMDG Setup -> Aircraft -> Equipment -> p.3/11, that allows you to disable and remove the HGS altogether. That said, I'm pretty confident (not "positive", mind you, just "confident") that the HGS, when stowed, doesn't consume much, if any processing power. Cheers.
February 12, 201313 yr Sure you can, you'll find a toggle in your CDU setup pages that will disable it. Don't remember where, I am on a MD-11 binge for the moment so my last 80 hours flying has been in Douglas country
February 12, 201313 yr Author Thanks fellas, I remember now. Seems ages since I last read the manual  although I suspect, as you say Petja, that there will be little frame benefit. I will nevertheless give it a go and check it out. Cheers... February 13, 201313 yr Let us know how many frames you saved, I pretty much never use mine anymore either because it always feels like I am cheating It did come very in handy though during a failure. Jay Vorkapic
February 13, 201313 yr I use mine all the time, I hear some airlines use that instead of autoland during CATIII conditions since it can draw the outline of the runway and its very nice since you can keep an eye on the runway the whole time without having to look away to glance at your airspeed or other info. February 13, 201313 yr Commercial Member From what I remember, it won't save frames as the way the model is written, it still renders it in the background, but just doesn't show it. Kyle Rodgers
February 13, 201313 yr If You realy never use it, you can just delete its module from the dll.xml whitch looks like this <Launch.Addon> <Name>PMDG HUD interface</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Path>PMDG\DLLs\PMDG_HUD_interface.dll</Path> <DllStartName>module_init</DllStartName> <DllStopName>module_deinit</DllStopName> </Launch.Addon> and store it somewhere safe for future mind change Thats what i did.

Be just as easy to to disable it from the fmc options, than removing and than saving it somewhere. Than what happens if you delete it or some how its gets corrupted. somehow. Cant see how it would gain you that extra fps by deleting it from the xml I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
February 19, 201313 yr That would accomplish nothing. The code is not launched until the HUGS is actually turned on. So you would have a stowed, unusable HUGS in the aicraft, instead of no HUGS as intended. --Peter Fabian
