August 27, 200421 yr With all the talk about FS2006 going on around here lately, (even though we have not heard anything official if there will be a new version next year). I have already decided - I will not be buying it. After months of tweaking for performance, accumulating a hanger of a variety of great planes, miles of scenery and meshes, not to mention the variety of AI planes I have setup and the $$$ spent on acquiring all those things, I feel I am finally to the point, I am able to just sit back and really enjoy flying a great simualtor and not mess around with things so much. At this point I just want to fly and do not want deal with all the setting up again for a very long time. So I have already decided, no FS2006 for me. It is not only that, but, I do not plan on getting a new computer for another 3 to 4 years and I know I would not have enough horsepower for the next version MSFS. Just seeing how much resources FS2004 takes up, I am sure FS2006 will be much worse. I figure that a good plan would be to leap frog every version of MSFS and just purchase it every 4 years or so. That way I can enjoy more flying and less tweaking.
August 27, 200421 yr Why do you think its necessary to announce this to the world? Also, I hope you haven't emailed microsoft asking them to extend the cycle to 4 years instead of 2 years. Finally, a bit of advice....Given the nature of the cycles.....FS95 sucked, FS98 great, FS2000 sucked, FS2002 great, FS9....well some aren't happy although for the most part, I am. This means that the next version of FS should be really really good. By starting from the following version (FS2008?) you may be setting yourself up to only get the crappy parts of the cycle........
August 27, 200421 yr Hahaha... Sure, you say that now... 2 years is a long time to wait. I myself will be giddy with excitement if and when a new version comes out. I'll probably be waiting in the parking lot for the stores to open the day of the release! ;)
August 27, 200421 yr " I'll probably be waiting in theparking lot for the stores to open the day of the release! ;)"yeah, behind me :-)Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
August 27, 200421 yr Oh you'll feel so FOOLISH when you post your first post about the new sim and we all remind you of this post.:-)A waste of a good thread, but it does make a change from the FS2006 wish list and patch requests.:DAllcott
August 27, 200421 yr I'm still using FS2002, and I have no intention of getting FS9. FS2004's clouds remind me of the start sequence on The Simpsons - those clouds turn me off :-lol Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
August 27, 200421 yr It's funny--without FS9's clouds, I'd still be flying in FS2002... Only time I do fly with FS2002 is for clear weather flights (albeit with a bit of cirrus) over the desert southwest. But the clouds (other than cirrus) in FS2002 look cartoonish when compared with FS2004 in my opinion...-John
August 27, 200421 yr <<<<<< FS2000 sucked >>>>>>>>Im just curious...why do people think that!? :)Im still using FS2000 & find nothing seriously wrong with it. Sure it has its weak points but Im sure FS9 has them too (for example it *still* uses a 737-400!, why didnt Microsoft go NextGen?!)
August 27, 200421 yr "Im just curious...why do people think that!? :)"When it came out, there was no computer available that was fast enough to run the sim at anything other than slideshow-speed. Now with 3 GHz machines and gigs of RAM, FS2000 may be a lot better.I see very few reasons to stick with FS2002 or older versions now. Take away the new 3D clouds and buggy xml-autogen and FS2004 actually runs smoother than FS2002 ever did, at least on my system. Virtually everything looks better in FS2004 (except terrain mesh which only displays at 38m in FS2004 and 19m in FS2002). Framerates being such a hot topic these days, I think Microsoft will spend some serious time making sure their next sim runs just fine even on mid-range systems.BTW, I think it's a little too early to talk about FS2006. Given the 2-year release cycle, it should be at *least* another year until the sim is out, probably more like 1.5 years - more than enough time to enjoy our beloved FS2005 (=FS2004 tweaked to perfection) :) -
August 27, 200421 yr "At this point I just want to fly and do not want deal with all the setting up again for a very long time. So I have already decided, no FS2006 for me. "John - can you garuantee you'll still feel this way in a years time when ( and if) FS2006 appears. For myself - I have to say that the tweaking and experimenting is certainly at least as much fun ( and maybe more so) than the actual flying.Dave
August 27, 200421 yr >I wager 2 to 1 that Dakota buys.Put me down for $100.00 that he caves and buys on the SECOND day FS2006 is sitting on the shelf at the local retailer.David
August 27, 200421 yr You say that now but in time when the screen shots start to show up and the advertising, and then finally all of the people saying how great FS2006 really is, will you be able to resist the temptation? Every release cycle I say that I am going to wait until the price comes down and every release cycle I am waiting in line before the stores open on day one of release. That is a bit of an exaggeration but I always get it the first day. If you can resist Microsoft's temptations then you are a better man than I, but I can tell you that it is not easy to resist all of those steamy descriptions and mouth watering screen shots. :-) My name is Philip and I am an addict. :-lolTake care,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
August 27, 200421 yr >John - can you garuantee you'll still feel this way in a years>time when ( and if) FS2006 appears.>Probably less than 12 months to go now. :-)
August 27, 200421 yr I really hope that another company will develop a sim to rival MSFS.They have their work cut out for them (Fly! was simply demolished) but Im sure it can be done. And I tell you...if theres still a flippin' 737-*400* in FS2006 I shall buy it just to put the CD in the microwave http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/contrib/ruinkai/FIREdevil.gif
