No FS2006 for me.

I like to tell myself that I won't be buying the next version; but deep down I know I will end up with it. Really, though, it depends on how far off the release is. If it's going to be 2-3 years after the FS9 release, instead of the rushed cycle between 2k4 and fs9, then I'll feel pretty good about buying it.I have high hopes that the next version will bring drastic changes to the sim; but that just aint gonna happen...we'll get alot of stuff that make the screenshots look more awesome, and that'll be it.Besides, I got this crazy home flight deck project to worry about...

At his point I don't really feel any desire for an fs2006. Every new version of fs has meant waiting for addons to be updated for the new version, as I find the default stuff rather useless when the novelty value wears off. What is different this time is the massive amount of addons that I have accumulated as the addon business have exploded lately. I simply cannot stand the tought of having to wait for udates of all that stuff. I'm also bound to lose some addons that will be abandoned by the developers. It happened to 767PIC in fs9. However, I'll probably still buy the new version when it comes along, as the urge for new technology is always very strong. Just wish the update cycle was a bit longer, and that they would release patches. (People who still hope for an fs9 patch must be crazy.)-

I'm kinda sick of tweaking too - I don't mind too much of it but after years of new sims, even having skipped the duds, I find myself wanting more out of the box, and neat packages to provide my subjective necessities (thank you PAI!).One thing I've been wanting for years is realistic clouds/atmosphere -fs2004 is largely satisfying in that respect - had it not been for this single enhancement I'da skipped it.I may just skip fs10 - depends on what's required to run it and how big a jump in features it turns out to be. regards,Mark

Is it a good idea to get an external hard drive and use it ONLY for flight sim moving the whole thing over to IT. If there is a way to do that?!?Louis

>I have high hopes that the next version will bring drastic>changes to the sim; but that just aint gonna happen...we'll>get alot of stuff that make the screenshots look more awesome,>and that'll be it.>I often ask me. What could we likely expect from FS10 that we can'thave with FS9 with some addon? For example what offers FS9 that can'tbe accomplished with Fs2002 with some addon?

Sure John, and I am going to quit smoking too... Yeah, right!!! :-lolIf you start a movement here, and you are successful in getting other folks to think that way, I can see us shutting down this forum for lack of activity. :)

>Why do you think its necessary to announce this to the world?Well, for what it's worth I wish to announce that I have decided not to buy FS2008.David

I got 2004 - recently - for my creaky old machine - because of the ATC, and because it was $10.I really don't have time to get on VATSIM or whatever right now. Also, USA Roads is great, though my current system can't handle it.But, I'll say, if there are certain improvements in 2006 (or whatever comes next) that happen to re-introduce lots of missing bridges, for example, and fix bugs such as overcast, heck, I won't mind spending another $10. Really I won't.Andrew(Can I borrow $10?)

Actually, a 4 year cycle would be a much better idea than a 2 year cycle. It would allow a decent "new" feature set to be implemented than the minor/incremental improvements that can be seen with these 2 year upgrades...Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern AustraliaMy "Around the World 4" flight pagehttp://members.iinet.net.au/~portercbp/fly...e%20World_5.htm

You can be sure that there will be something in FS2006 that will "force" us to buy it. Something that we just have to have, hehe. billg

Exactly, Tom, I'm not giving up smoking either. In fact I'll bet you a Thousand Dollar Sponsorship that this forum doubles in size in the next year and a half. There should be more and more people getting involved or "getting back involved-if they were just casual users" in the near future. This is the "plan" or future as some of us would like it to be.Folks: In my opinion were are seeing an awesome year for the latest sim, and it's only going to go faster and get better. If you try to reason it, you're just going to get a busted melon. Yes, sometimes even we would like to see a slow down just so we can catch our breath. We don't know what the timetable is going to be before the next release, but I can assure you that the time between the next release is going to see even better things from our 3rd party developers. It seems like we've already seen some very good things from everyone during the FS9 run and their is a lot more to come before we're done. Most of you have no idea what the new sim is going to be like. My best guess is that it will even blow the socks off the current version. I think we are at that point where there will be some more milestones acheived, serious milestones I should say.The point is: sit back and enjoy the ride. Have a nice day. :)

After FS2000, I had said (to myself, not announced on any forum :() that I wouldn't bother with FS2002. Sure enough, I had FS2002 Pro in my hands heading for the cashier the first time I saw it on a store shelf... :-lolEven with its little quirks, I haven't regretted buying FS9 one bit, and I'm sure I won't regret buying FS10 if the good-bad-good-bad-good cycle holds true... :(

This reminds me of a guy who states that yelling across a field is just as good as using that contraption called a telephone ;-) FS9 not only provides better clouds, it provides many other aircraft features that you cannot achieve with FS2002. Technology movews forward, some are complacent but lucky for us the developers are not...Best Wishes,
Randy J. Smith
http://www.rawbw.com/~bdoolin/shinault/Animation1.gifCaution!
