March 2, 201313 yr I much prefer the female voice, but the day an aircraft calls me a "Retard Retard" while landing, is the day I stop flying... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZTByNikNTk&feature=share&list=UUQtkUEIwKcRLmBoacyjuQbA RJ
March 2, 201313 yr I'd love to watch the video but it's private. You would think "retard" would be changed for certain customers. Chuck Biggins
March 3, 201313 yr I'd love to watch the video but it's private. You would think "retard" would be changed for certain customers. Presumably the people that actually fly the planes know it's the imperative form of the verb 'to retard', rather than the noun, that is being used. John-Alan Pascoe
March 3, 201313 yr I would imagine GPWS and TCAS warnings and the stick shaker. . . . My family members and I have found the QualityWings B757 autopilot disengage warning to be very irritating. Fortunately I primarily fly the PMDG B747 these days. . . .
March 3, 201313 yr Moderator Sounds that stress pilots? Maybe the sound of the FAA micromanaging everything. Or, the sound of empty air from Approach frequency while on a Cat III ILS approach to KASE.
March 4, 201313 yr Presumably the people that actually fly the planes know it's the imperative form of the verb 'to retard', rather than the noun, that is being used. I also know why Airbus did it before I posted that. It's causes a bit of discussion and makes someone scratch their head (even though it shouldn't) in some parts of the world. Every layperson to aviation I know will watch an airbus video and then say "what did he just say?". I'm just curious if they ever had that discussion. Chuck Biggins
March 4, 201313 yr Moderator What other single word of command could possibly take the place of "retard?" I'll be darned if I can think of one! <_< Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 4, 201313 yr Moderator Amazing that the change in one vowel from long to soft gives that word such an opposite meaning...
March 4, 201313 yr What other single word of command could possibly take the place of "retard?" I'll be darned if I can think of one! <_< I'm convinced they put that in there as a joke, could have just as easily been "Idle, Idle, Idle" instead of "Retard, Retard, Retard". ^_^ Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
March 4, 201313 yr Moderator But Ró, "idle" isn't a French word, whereas "retard" is... Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 4, 201313 yr They could say nothing. Pilots know when to retard without being told. Chuck Biggins
