Canon Pixma KILLS Simconnect

It seems to me Dougal, that you must have been really wicked in a previous life. :)

LOL

Forget the bit about "previous" Ron, and you'd be right on the mark

Just how is it killing Simconnect?

Also my understanding is that FSUIPC 4 for FSX uses Simconnect, yet you seem to be saying FSUIPC is working?

I've no idea how FSUIPC uses simconnect.  Guess you'd need to ask Pete.  As for your question....  If I knew the answer, It would be just well and dandy, and it would solve the issue;-)  All I can tell you is that all other addons that depend on simconnect wont connect.  None of them, either payware or freeware.  And so far, it seems ONLY to start manifesting AFTER installing the Canon drivers or software.

I have two versions of Windows7 and bizarrely, two copies of FSX, and both give the same results so far.

The fact that a clean install works, and that one with canon code instyalled doesn't, certainly points strongly in one direction.

The only answer I can give to the guy who asked why it's marked 'important', is that you'd have to ask a mod.  Nothing to do with me.  Although, come to think of it, it is kind of important for me, as I cant really use FSX;-)

It sure has me baffled.  Along with most others it seems.

Are you saying they won't connect across the network or on your PC?

FSUIPC works independently of simconnect. Simconnect utilises the WinSXS system which could feasibly be unhinged by some dodgy goings on in the registry, or some network setting changed by installing the printer.

FSUIPC works independently of simconnect.

I don't think so. The FSUIPC4 installation log shows it "Checking compatibility with installed SimConnect:"

and Pete Dowson on his support forum said

SimConnect is installed by FSX as part of the Windows "side by side" library system, in the Windows winsxs folder. It is essential for FSUIPC operation as well as a lot of other FSX add-ons....

Are you saying they won't connect across the network or on your PC?

No, I'm not talking networks.  I hadn't even got that far yet.

I'm saying that after the Canon software is installed, then simconnect will not even allow 'local' apps to comunuicate.

I have JUST finished my 4th reinstall in as many days;-)  I currently have Windows7 SP1 plus all updates, ALL my other software, such as Office, picture and video editing software etc, plus all my Windows utilities.  This all on an SSD.

A barebones FSX SP2 plus FSUIPC & Opus FSX are currently installed to 500Gb Velociraptor, and EVERYTHING is working perfectly.

After a COMPLETE backup to externall drives with Acronis, I will, for the last time, try installing the Canon software.

Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

Now you tell me!

I installed the Canon disk and it froze-up FSX solid - entered a Not Responding state and stayed there. Could not End Task either!

So, I uninstalled all of the Canon stuff and rebooted - even Shutdown had a hard time killing FSX and the system was dodgy until the second reboot.

However, on the second reboot the Windows 7 drivers (not the CD) were automagically installed because I left the printer on and connected and now FSX works.

And my printer works as well - I kept on getting printer code -20 errors.

So, I recommending uninstalling all of the Canon drivers, rebooting, and letting the OS load the default drivers.

Hope this helps!

I'm speaking loosely, I was thinking about WideFS. What is this, the addon knowledge police? LOL.

Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

Not the addon knowledge police, but simply establishing the facts and understanding what might be happening.

If FSUIPC, which requires Simconnect, is still working then that suggests Simconnect isn't killed - whatever else may be happening.

Gerry Howard

For anyone:

No need to reinstall anything. Just use the FSX SDKs to reinstall Simconnect. That might restore things to a working state very quickly.

But you were WRONG on the internet, you must expect to be roundly chastised.

Thats how it works

Ha ha, you are the police, and you do make a fuss. I was off out in a hurry and I was thinking out loud that two different networks stopped could be down to something the printer driver update had caused the internet security to block some ports - or something. Not wrong mad buddy, and we're all sick and tired of being chastised. I'm here to write several addons not get picked up on nothing at all.

Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

not get picked up on nothing at all.

Why does the phrase "pots and kettles"  come to mind?
