March 7, 201313 yr This relates to a major software conflict for FSX... Some of you will be aware that over the last couple of weeks I've been experiencing severe problems with FSX. This resulted in no less than FOUR Windows, Apps and FSX reinstallations. After much help from various forums, including Nick N and the OpusFSX team, over at the SimForums, I've just identified the problem. Two weeks ago I bought a new Canon PIXMA MG5350 all-in-one printer/scanner. THE SOFTWARE/DRIVER INSTALLATION ROUITINE DOES SOMETHING THAT KILLS SIMCONNECT STONE DEAD!!! Anyone considering a new Canon, BEWARE! I've yet to discover a way of installing only the basic drivers for this, and still waiting for further feedback from Canon. As I have always installed all my hardware and drivers BEFORE installing FSX, you can imagine how hard its been finding this fault;-) Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
March 7, 201313 yr Good to keep in mind ... I use a dedicated FS pc for that reason but I guess not everyone can do that. Hope you get your issues sorted! Rich
March 7, 201313 yr I strongly suggest that you create a thread title that resembles the content of your thread rather than creating an attention seeker style title. I know many people never visit threads with titles like "LOOK AT ME, IM AN ATTENTION SEEKER!". I'm not saying that you created this thread for the sake of attention, it's obvious that you created it to warn your fellow simmers about a potential conflict, but some people might just ignore it because of the thread title. Etiquette dictates that threads should be titled according to the content of the thread, and it should be obvious to the reader what the thread is about without him having to open and read it. vatsim s3

You're right of couse about the title, though I believe only admin can change that. As for attention, my last job got me more of that than most folk ever see in a life time, so it's the last thing I want. Though I take your point;-) This thread is well worth a look:http://www.simforums.com/forums/major-prob-after-reinstall_topic45270_page2&SID=54591155ad39445z533f374e262183410185185.html Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

This really makes sense to me. I almost didn't open this thread. With a meaningful title, it helps people weed out threads that they don't care to look at. Kind of like going to a supermarket and buying a can of food that isn't labeled.
March 7, 201313 yr Thanks for the info. Wiltshire eh? I'm from Amesbury near Stonehenge. Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
March 7, 201313 yr Strange, I have a PIXMA MG5250 which I installed after FSX and add-ons, and I've had no such issues. Best printer I've ever owned, actually.
March 7, 201313 yr Got a 6150 and have no isses. Most of these printers share the same drivers and software suite, so that was indeed a strange problem. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
March 7, 201313 yr Good to read that you finally nailed the culprit. Out of 99% scenarios of trying to track this mischievious piece of software that corrupts others, I bet nobody would have been able to nail this rogue. Well Done and thanks for the heads up. I hope this does not cause an issue when I buy a new Canon DSLR and run its software. No issues as far as I'm concerned regarding the Thread Title. Rick Almeida

March 7, 201313 yr THE SOFTWARE/DRIVER INSTALLATION ROUITINE DOES SOMETHING THAT KILLS SIMCONNECT STONE DEAD!!! As I have always installed all my hardware and drivers BEFORE installing FSX You lost me here? If you installed all you drivers BEFORE FSX, how could SimConnect (which installs with FSX) have been killed by software (Canon) that was installed before FSX? But as I've suggested to you in other threads, use SysTracer http://www.blueproject.ro/systracer to monitor what software installations do ... it can be a big eye opener.
March 7, 201313 yr Moderator ...it should be obvious to the reader what the thread is about without him having to open and read it. While I agree that topic titles should ideally be a synoptic of the contents, some times there isn't really enough characters available to do so practically. That's when using the 'Preview' icon just to the right of the thread topic comes in handy, as it will display the first 10 lines or so of the opening post, as well as the "first unread post" and the "latest reply." March 7, 201313 yr Wiltshire eh? I'm from Amesbury near Stonehenge. My wife and I were married in Shalbourne, at the St Michael & All Angels Church. We spent many a night with our friends from the village hanging out in the Plough.
March 7, 201313 yr I love these forums, not that I care about the title or anything else but I just could not resist to say that to all those people complaining about the title not being good enough meaning other people will look at it and waste their time. You could argue that by commenting you are contributing to the problem by keeping a post at the top that would otherwise slip away and be forgotten in a matter of hours! Keithy George
March 7, 201313 yr It's all about the long term. If somebody got a new way of looking at it, therefore improving their posting technique it was worth it, even if it put the thread on top of the thread list (twice now actually) vatsim s3
