March 18, 201313 yr Hi, Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong, on the FMC route page, already put in departure runway from EGNT on departure page, trying to put in a fictional route to EGKK DCT RAPUM, UP16 to CROFT, UN615 to HON etc. if I put RAPUM on the right side, next line on left side UP16 (which should be the airway) it will not let me put Croft on the right hand side just throws up a Discontinuity which I can’t erase I thought (probably wrongly) the left side was VIA and the right side was TO, unless I have the airway name wrong :( Many thanks Steve Steve Merriman
March 18, 201313 yr You don't erase discontinuties, you just close/overwrite them. Line select [key] the next waypoint (after the discon) which puts it into the scratchpad and overwrite the discontinuity using the appropriate line select key. Jay Vorkapic
March 18, 201313 yr Author Sorry I said erase, but meant close, :( The discontinuity is on the right of UP16 which will not let me put CROFT in the right Many thanks Steve Steve Merriman
March 18, 201313 yr Post us a screenshot. At my NGX, that route works just fine: Lj. Prodanovic
March 18, 201313 yr Please look here at the official/standard routes for the UK. They should work if you have the current AIRAC. http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=186&Itemid=258.html The standard route for EGNT-EGKK is DCT NATEB P18 GASKO P16 RIBEL UP16 CROFT DCT KEPAD UL151 TELBA L151 KIDLI (above FL245; STAR WILLO3B) Regards, Chris Volle i7700k @ 4,7, 32gb ram, Win10, MSI GTX1070.
March 18, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the screen shot, just how I thought it should look, I have not updated my AIRAC as Chris Mentioned, so perhaps that is the problem. I am at work so may not get chance to try again until tomorrow. as I said it was just a fictional route using a chart, the chart is probably current, my AIRAC is original. many thanks Steve Steve Merriman
March 18, 201313 yr If the Up16 is not in your database, you can always enter just direct waypoints at that portion of route you wnat to fly, for example instead of RAPUM UP16 CROFT, you can enter DCT RAPUM DCT BINTI DCT BEGAM DCT RIBEL DCT CROFT. March 18, 201313 yr Author Yes I did use DCT which as you say works fine, just wondered why I couldn't enter the airway, first time I have tried entering airways and assumed user error :( still learning the black art of FMC Many thanks Steve Steve Merriman
March 18, 201313 yr Commercial Member still learning the black art of FMC Your technique is fine. The "black art" is made harder because your data seems to be out of date. In other words, your art is fine, but your paint is a little old. Kyle Rodgers
March 18, 201313 yr What happens if you leave the right side blank and just enter UP16 UN615 on the left? What appears next to UP16 then? When I enter my route, I just enter the first fix (end of sid) and then only the airways on the left. The FMC puts in the intersections between airways automatically. Works perfectly fine. Works perfectly fine.Yeah, same here. A wonderful 'trick' too on how to enter a flight plan into the FMS. Not really a trick but you know. And that is about all I have to say on this topic. Not much. But when I see a topic titled 'Idiot using FMC', I just have to take a look. Us idiots have to stick together you know. March 18, 201313 yr Author If I try to enter CROFT after UP16 I just get INVALID ENTRY if I continue with route I get a discontinuity I can't close, it will accept BEGAM, but not CROFT, and assuming g_precentralisis is using a newer AIRAC, that must be my problem as I am still on the original AIRAC 1108 not a big deal just wondering what I was doing wrong, thanks for all your help everyone. Idiot 1 out  Many thanks Steve Steve Merriman
March 18, 201313 yr You can close the gap in legs page once you activate RTE, but you will end up with incorrect route. Overall, that route you want to use is invalid as you certainly cannot reach upper air route that soon after take off, and there is no corresponding P16 lower airway, so up to until FL245 (I think) you would basically fly off airway. I would just go with Chrjs's suggestion as it's depicted from RW playbook: DCT NATEB P18 GASKO P16 RIBEL UP16 CROFT DCT KEPAD UL151 TELBA L151 KIDLI Lj.
