April 3, 201313 yr FYI there's a thread in the Captainsim forums with instructions for merging the Captainsim model with the Just Flight VC. I haven't tried it yet but I think it will be a seamless merge, as both are 'lite' products with no over-zealous DRM protection. For people on the sidelines, I would think of it this way: EUR45/US$60 is the price of entry for the L-1011. You get the Just Flight VC and the -500 model, and the Captainsim -1 model. Outstanding!! Actually for its time the L1011 was certainly not basic. It was built with the INS in mind and had an LNAV function on the autopilot. It also had a PMS and VNAV capability as well as an IAS pitch mode that acts as a flight change. Was the only aircraft if its time with autoland and the only aircraft to my knowledge with direct lift control. In a nutshell, for a plane that was built in the 70's, it had many features that were not common until newer planes of the 80's. Todd Fleck

Just paraphrasing 411A (RIP) @ Pprune and Airliners.net: The L-1011 was at the time the most advanced civilian airliner in the world. it had Direct Lift Control (DLC) which was a unique Lockheed patented technology and IIRC the only other civilian aircraft to use this technology was the Space Shuttle. (Edit: Sorry got confused with ACS, The Space shuttle don't have spoilers) It's also the first civilian aircraft to have as standard 2 dual-channel fail-operational autopilots (Built by the original Smiths team which made the Autoland system for the HS Trident) certified for Cat IIIc Autoland, which combined with the DLC system made the smoothest autoland touchdowns and it remains unbeaten to this day. The systems also create an extremely smooth flight. the -500 also includes: Maneuvering Direct Lift Control - automatic spoiler deployment on overspeed Active Control System - automatic aileron control to relieve wing bending load. With such advanced analog equipment, combined with the 3 spool Rolls Royce RB211 engines the Tristar was a real maintenance queen compared to the DC-10/747, which is why they were never really used as freighters.
April 10, 201313 yr I like CaptainSim, however they are like an airline mechanic with ADD.... please fix the other planes in the hanger before moving on.
