April 25, 201313 yr Nothing much to this, it's basically an early retirement package for those who are on the top of the salary scale, bring down the average cost per worker. At the moment we're the 7th highest paying airline in Europe, so that should come down a fair bit when we trim the top and get more people into entry level of the pay scale. We're still hiring loads of people like there's no tomorrow, just in different parts of the company to those referred to here. Regards,Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

April 25, 201313 yr Senior cabin crew, check-in staff, customer service agents, caterers, basically anyone that can be replaced without too much hassle. Pilots and engineering are safe, we're desperately short of pilots still, we're all going to be pushing 900 hours flight time this year, so much so that we're already having to charter in additional aircraft to cover us due to pilots hitting duty limits. The pilot situation is so severe at the moment that you even hint at being offered a job else where and you'll find a nice pay rise and extra holidays on offer... Engineers are also very safe, we're currently recruiting them as well. Most of the positions though that are let go will be filled immediately though. It's an exercise in basically asking those who are on the top of the scale to retire, so new people can join on the bottom. Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

April 25, 201313 yr Always the way... Indeed, but on a more positive front, I can now officially confirm that we will be acquiring 3 757-200's with an option for one more for expansion of our transatlantic services and also that we're likely going to be relaunching our SFO flight, perhaps even before the end of the year. In addition to that, YYZ is 99% sure to be launched for the next Summer season. Also we have our newest aircraft for Aer Lingus Regional arriving this week, an ATR 72-600 from Toulouse, 'St. Conall'. ^_^ And finally our inflight Wi-Fi is going to be rolled out next week on our long-haul A330 fleet, speed is actually not too bad at all, 7Mbits and all you can eat data. We're on track to surpass last years record passenger numbers and profits. So all in all, things are looking pretty good at the moment, despite what might come across as some negative news today. Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
April 25, 201313 yr Good news indeed then if they have found out a way to take care of loyal employees, hopefully with a nice retirement package and to hire more for the workforce to keep employment at least the same if not better. It is the way, but a necessary way. Sent from my Apple communications device. William Sequeira

It is the way, but a necessary way. I think it's the same package as when the 'fired' us all, 6 weeks pay per year of service, not bad at all... Do yal hire American pilots? Just wondering Yes we do, but they'd be required to have a valid EASA or JAA license, likely they'd have to come pre-rated on the A320, but would also have to be committed to living in Ireland for the remainder of their career, we want pilots that are going to stick around for 30-40 years, not just 2-3, so unless you can prove your willingness to remain in Ireland and as part of Aer Lingus then your chances of being hired would diminish rapidly. Send me a PM if you want more info. Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.

Should be able to give us live mid flight updates then  I think Virgin Aus are also getting some brand new ATRs to base out of PER to replace the Fokker 50s of their recently aquired Skywest. It will be sad to see the F50s go, such a wondeful aircraft. "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend

Hi Rónán, I think I read somewhere that the 757s would only be leased (not acquired), starting in the summer 2014. But you probably have better info than I have. Bruno
