I don't think I have ever used the "B" key to set my altimeter. For me it's a normal procedure to adjust the QNH/QFE manually.

In effect the "problem?" that the topic starter has never / doesn't exist.

My advice to him is to asign the "B" key to something else and get used to manually adjusting the altimeter which after all is "as real as it gets!"

As has been said before. It's quite amazing that some people are soooooooooooooooooooooo lazy that instead of using their mouse to adjust their altimeter they press "B" and then waste time complaining instead of adjusting which is the "proper" way!!!

When I middle-click the altimeter knob, the altimeter shows 29.92 in

I'm using the 1.007 version that will be available soon, after testers' approval.

I think it closes this discussion.

On a somwhat related note, does the "B" command to auto reset to the current altimeter not work in this aircraft. I don't really care regardless (or the fact that the default value is 29.91) but I was curious of anyone else has this issue, or if this is just the way the plane is.

If only I could have that adjustment by pressing the "B" key on the CDU when I fly lol...then they'll be no need for hearing and reading back qnh with atc lol.... Or straining to see the kohlsmans tiny readout in rough weather at night for that matter lol :-D

@McLaren the B key has no effect on this aircraft.

Thank god!  This thread, for those that can't read, has been about STD = 29.92 on the display.  It was never about HOW you set standard pressure - we've certainly had enough of those debates over the years and don't really require another.

I think the gist was that it wasn't anything that would make the Q400 unflyable hence most just said all you do is just manually adjust it until a patch changes things.

Or: Just adjust the altimeter to 29.92 with the little knob. :D

If you were using QNH, that would be the huge difference between QNH 1013, and QNH 1013.

The whole point of the STD button is to quickly move from altitude to flight level.  If QNH is 28.80 for example it's a quick and reliable way of setting standard pressure.  Hence the complaints about it being 29.91.  Still it sounds like it is already fixed next release.

I never used to until I started VA flying and using real world weather.  Sometimes altimeter changes happen at busy times and hitting B is no different to any other keyboard shortcut like F1 for idle and F2 for reverse thrust.  Also locating the clickspots quickly and adjusting them takes all your attention in FSX for a few seconds.  B doesn't.  In the real aircraft adjusting the setting knob is less of a distraction because it's a physical control in a familiar location.

So I'm happy to defend the use of the B shortcut in FSX.

Yes, I'd seen that. Unfortunately it isn't a bug as Majestic designed it this way. I was just defending those of us who do use B as a shortcut against the idea it was somehow cheating. One of the things that keeps me sane flying in the VC is keyboard shortcuts.

Lazybones!!!!!!

Absolutely.  :P One keyboard stroke versus many mouse clicks in some addons?  No contest.  In sims where the mousewheel works nicely then I do it the "right" way of course.  B)

Perhaps you should get a mouse with a mouse wheel. And, in any case as has already been said most a/c have a 1013 / 2992 readout on their altimeters so 0.1 inches is totally irrelevant.
