It was probably one of those instances of someone giving birth on an airliner and not having thought of a name before named the baby after the aircraft!!!!! B)

I'm sure that if it's not already in the T's & C's that any sane member wouldn't mind accepting them in order to name and shame some idiots.

It's bad enough that a few idiots indulge themselves in activity of this kind, but for someone you know and trust to do it......well, that's very sad :(

I'm not sure what good "naming and shaming" would do from a practical point of view.. Those involved already know they're doing wrong so I doubt they'd be bothered by having that fact published. Would it really be possible to "name" them. A court order would be needed in most counties to obtain their names from an ISP.

 

In Suggest it would be more effective formally to report them to their ISP's because what they are doing is in breach of the agreement between them and their ISPs.

I'm starting to move over to the "name them now!" camp, as everyone else seems to know who this person was, and I don't !!! .... My noseyness genes are working overtime :lol:

But of course naming and shaming, just to put people's (like me) curiousity and noseyness to rest, isn't the best reason..... As others have said, the most important things (IMHO) are;-

• that AVSIM is protected from a law suit that could kill it.
• avoiding anyone innocent being wrongly named and shamed. (seems unlikely, given the objectivity of the evidence).

So I think it's sensible to let logic and mind lead the way (and give a warning first), rather than emotion (and name them straight up).

 

If there's any other nosey buggers out there, who know the perpetrator, PM me and put me out of my misery! :lol:

My first reaction would be to "name and shame".

 

Now, having read the very good points made in some of the posts above, I would consider getting opinions/advise  from other forum owners and from a few lawyers - which I am sure you are also doing.

 

(edited after taking some more time to think) Also, I think it's always better to "praise in public but reprimand in private".

 

Having said that, the threat of a concerted action (banning etc) with other forums would definitely be useful - even without a public denunciation.

Okay, we have sufficient feedback and will cogitate on this. If we have a future case of hacking / spamming etc., we'll consider all the input and the step of taking things to a wall or similar. Thanks for everyone's input.
