WALL OF SHAME - Is it time to consider one?

Featured Replies

The private warning does not have to be complex or emotional. "We have evidence of your bad behavior. If you continue, we will publicly shame you." End of warning.

I guess the part I will never accept is that you somehow have to inform the perpetrator that he is doing something wrong before you hammer him. It's like being able to go before a judge and say you're innocent because you did not know robbing a bank is against the law and walk away as a free person. I still say once you have bullet-proof evidence light the bugger up on the wall of shame. Be sure to share the info with other FS related sites as well.

N2056(does your mum call you that?  ) speaks with straight tongue.

The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

Definitely, warn then shame. If you can calculate down-time losses to $5,000 or above then tell the police.

We, as a society are too bloody lenient.

Yes!

N2056(does your mum call you that? )

N2056 was the registration number assigned to my Dad's first homebuilt plane (Thorp T-18). It was a big part of my life when I was a kid. The plane was sold after we flew it for several years, and sadly the new owner crashed it at some point. When my Dad decided to build another Thorp my brothers and I found out the old number was available and we reserved it for him as a Christmas gift. It's the number on the plane in my Avatar.

Mom had a lot better names to call me by...

On a side note this issue may overlap with something which has worried me a little recently. The site is doing a pretty good job of building its Xplane community pages but two previously regular and often helpful users have disappeared after what I would call 'unnecessarily passionate' moderator comments to rule infringements.

In any population of 100,000 most people will behave fine but there will be several people who behave extremely. It might help avoid ruffling the feathers of the already unhinged if thread lockings and suspensions could be handed out with just a description of the infringement and a copy of the clause in the site terms of use that the infringement contravenes, and without additional moderator comments of the "What's wrong with you? Are you asking for a ban?" ilk. That's one of the many thankless parts of modding - having to show the patience of a saint:)

BINGO!

in the spirit of aviation, AVSIM should invest in some drones for purposes such as this. I firmly believe in if they did something like this once, they will do it again, and again, maybe not aimed at AVSIM, but someone else will suffer.

I am all for the wall of shame as long as AVSIM's legal butt is covered.

A friend of mines daughter just got her first computer (yeah, I know, sheltered, LOL) and I helped her get set up. In trying to explain the internet i told her to think of her browser as a very expensive convertible with bags of valuables in the backseat and browsing the internet as the same as driving at night thru the worst area of town she could think of in said convertible.....only 10X worse, LOL.

The last saint we had on staff we fired. He was way too sanctimonious and a PITA.

Hey! I resemble that remark! :p0305:

Is zero tolerance alive and well ?  I do hope so.

SpiritFlyer, on 29 Jun 2013 - 6:41 PM, said:Yesterday, when Tom was running our security software it pulled out and isolated a certain IP address from membership that was pounding Avsim. He emailed the guy asking how he, a friend, could do that. Tom's personal dismay and hurt was clearly evident to those who know him well. [. . .]

Therefore for me, I post this [. . .] to express my own (just speaking for myself) dismay at how vindictive and hateful the most unlikely people can be. [. . .] To be stabbed in the back by members who are regarded as friends is something altogether different.

I am very sorry to hear this. Due to workload increases towards the end of the school year, I temporarily withdrew from AVSIM and flight simulation. I read this thread while trying to catch up with AVSIM news.

In the process, I believe I discovered the identity of the perpetrator. If I am correct, I am truly shocked by the actions that have been attributed to him, considering his personality.

I suppose an unfortunate but valuable lesson is that, regardless of how decent our hobby is, the internet is still the internet: a place in which perceived anonymity causes certain "regular" people to do malicious things they would never do in person.

I understand you wanting to go down this road. Believe me not only in this environment but others I have wished such penalties were in force.

For what it's worth though I would seek legal advice and opinion prior to going down this path. Innocent until proven guilty can cause all sorts of issues if you jump the gun.
