July 2, 201312 yr Hello Is that the PMDG team expected a cockpit builder in the near future? Regards JL
July 2, 201312 yr Commercial Member No. To my knowledge, PMDG has no plans to create hardware interfaces themselves. Their current offerings do allow use of external hardware. The NGX in particular has an SDK for the hardware companies to create their own customized commands for. So, if your question is will PMDG create hardware, my guess would be no; If your question is will external hardware be compatible with their products, the answer is yes. Kyle Rodgers
July 2, 201312 yr First off - we produced an SDK for the first time with the NGX - there are users with "good external hardware" using it to great effect. Not sure how you can take the fact that we don't support networked gauges running on separate computers to mean we "are not the slightest interested" when 99% of hardware stuff can work with the SDK. We have a business to run and people doing the networked gauge stuff are a tiny tiny fraction of an already tiny market. This would take an inordinate amount of time to do and we'd only sell a handful of copies - look at iFly's support forum for it - 120 topics in 1 year made by the same handful of people mainly. NGX forum here - 11,228 topics in just over a year... To the OP, it really depends on what your intentions are.
July 2, 201312 yr Author Thanks for your replies, it's a shame because flight PMDG model is better than that of IFLY but if I understand it is a matter of profitability...
July 2, 201312 yr You can pretty much do nearly a full cockpit with the PMDG 73NGX and the SDK. Here's my setup using it with Opencockpits and joystick card interfacing. Shaun OrtolanoTronAviation.com

July 2, 201312 yr Super your simu! I am not very gifted in computer science it is why I chose the facility with the JetMax and Ifly Pro You wont be disappointed with either.
July 2, 201312 yr I remember Rob saying in January they want to have a full B744 simulator in the office. I presume that'll help them help others put the product in their own simulators. - Luke Pabari
July 3, 201312 yr PMDG is not going the iFly way around the Cockpit Building concept, simply because it is not needed. You can do basically everything you want with the PMDG NGX and newer as they are. --Peter Fabian
July 3, 201312 yr Author The feeling of fly with a cockpit is completely different than having a simple PC screen
July 3, 201312 yr One important item you can not do on the 777 and I guess future PMDG projects and is a killer for those of us who have a cockpit and that is separate the forward outside view from the VC. Shaun that is a very nice cockpit, I used a short throw projected for outside and built my own hardware and interface using fsuipc. percy lee
July 3, 201312 yr Here is your home cockpit ... http://www.aerosoft2.de/downloads/B-737-Simulator.pdf What happened to AVSIM
July 4, 201312 yr Percy: You can use 2D view, no problem. Gauges are probably going to be a bit of a challenge, but since popups should be present, not impossible. --Peter Fabian
July 4, 201312 yr Fabo, I am pretty sure that you can not separate the forward outside view from the VC cockpit like a regular 2D panel and that is the problem as you would show the outside forward view with a VC cockpit that is 14 feet wide or as wide as the screen. The outside view is undock and moved to a different monitor or in my case a projector, with VC you also would be moveing cockpit to the out side screen........Using the 2d popups undocking them and moving to a separate monitor would be no problem..With 2D cockpit you only move the outside view and not the cockpit...I know of no VC cockpit that the outside view can be separated from the VC...I do not use any part of a cockpit except the popups and front view, have made my own MPC throttle and overhead....thanks for the suggestion any way. percylee.
July 5, 201312 yr I am afraid I simply don't understand. For the home cockpit you would want an unobtrused view out front, which you can always get by using the 2D view. --Peter Fabian
