August 4, 201312 yr BTW - I've been imaging my entire system for many years (using Acronis like you) but after installing FSX to a dedicated PCIe SSD I kept the old mechanical drive as a mirror of my FSX install which is how I can see what changes an add-on makes. Restoring images isn't a very practical long term solution if say you want to use both FTXG and GEX as what happens when you want to install other add-ons - do you keep multiple images at the point your FSX installation split? This is a classic problem in change management of software and there are no easy answers. My solution is to keep copies of what has been changed and use a script to restore these files when necessary - FTXG will of course take care of itself. Yes, it's tricky. I will probably image my system and give FTXG a try. The easy decision is if I don't like it and can just restore the old image and carry on. But if I want to stay with it - well, of course I'll keep the old image, just in case. Beyond that, I keep a pretty detailed log of what I instal and (consciously) change, so in theory I could go back to the 'fork' and pick up the trail from there, but there's many a slip . . . . I'm still surprised that ORBX have such talented scenery designers, and yet seem to be missing the basic principles of software installation/un-installation. Or maybe Nick is right (wouldn't be the first time) and I am being naïve
August 4, 201312 yr Older Orbx Australia releases would cause a problem for UTX Canada as well as Victoria+ and Vancouver+; you ended up with land where the water should have been, which made if tough for float plane enthusiasts. After they received complaints, they fixed it.The first FTX PNW release would not change the airport elevations back to default when you turned off PNW in FTX Central; their reason was that they didn't think anyone would want to turn it off. After the complaints, they fixed it.Now you have FTX Global with no uninstaller. The solution, I would imagine, will be to complain. Be forewarned; John Venema hates complainers! Mike Mann
August 4, 201312 yr From JV himself: We have an Uninstaller app coming today or tomorrow, it's being tested at present. August 4, 201312 yr For anyone interested what FTX Global looks like in actual flight in Norway and Sweden I just uploaded my last flight from Trondheim to Stockholm here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac7RTq4CZV0 YouTube seems to be extremely slow at the moment so currently the clip is only available in low res but just give it some time and it should become available in 1080p
August 4, 201312 yr Uninstalled GEX to install FTX Global. Very nice improvement. More immersive for me. Goodbye GEX. August 5, 201312 yr For anyone interested what FTX Global looks like in actual flight in Norway and Sweden I just uploaded my last flight from Trondheim to Stockholm here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac7RTq4CZV0 YouTube seems to be extremely slow at the moment so currently the clip is only available in low res but just give it some time and it should become available in 1080p Very nice video :Peace: Can you please post some screen shots of Stockholm city? at low level 1-3000'? Thanx! Kind regardsR.G
August 5, 201312 yr Here are some shots of Stockholm city including some famous landmarks such as the Ericsson Globe, the City Hall etc.
August 5, 201312 yr I'm a bit puzzled. Can someone tell me if the landmark buildings in these pix (and others - I recall seeing Tower Bridge in an earlier screenshot of London) are being supplied by FTXG or by another package ?
August 5, 201312 yr Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think at least for Stockholm and I would believe elsewhere as well landmarks are either in default FSX or added by addons. I don't think FTXG adds any custom landmarks.
August 5, 201312 yr FTXG indeed does NOT add landmarks. BTW FSX comes with a LOT of landmarks, a lot more than people often think! I've seen quite a few posts from people saying they liked the landmarks that come with FTXG because it makes their hometown look so great... well, apparantly they never looked at their homeplace before because all those landmarks were already there. ^_^
August 5, 201312 yr It's pretty amazing how many landmarks they got into FSX. Almost every large city in the US has them. Even a lot of smaller cities do, which can be surprising. Europe is full of them as well. Even places like Saudi Arabia have them. The amount of work that would of went into placing so many custom landmarks all over the world must of been a ton.
August 5, 201312 yr Loving FTXG so far. I understood JV to say that the night intersection lights did not make this initial release. I cannot find anywhere if anyone from Orbx stated when they expect that to be released? Likely in a SP one would presume? Eric

August 6, 201312 yr ORBX wins by far.......I don't think you have a good enough PC for either one. I am really enjoying FSX as never before with it.
