Some GEX - FTX Global comparisons

Featured Replies

UTX in fact is a landclass product and it will work very nice together with Scenery Tech, what you need to do is to place Scenery Tech in the correct location in the scenery library.

This is from my memory, I think it should go between the UTX entries called Urban and Vegetation or something like that. Do a Google search for it and you will find it easily.

Hm, I doubt if FTXG solves that landclass problem... but here is a shot anyway. BTW The ZUH VOR requires a turn to the LEFT, not the right... but since on the left there was mainly sea I suppose this screenshot shows the right location. Maybe you recognize that river. You can type the coordinates into FSX to make a good comparison.

I changed my opinion on FTXG.  Its a must have and just wow!!!  The FPS are excellent and the realism has been taken to a new level never seen before in FSX on a global scale.  The other texture product seems archaic now.

Scenery Tech

Just note that while SceneryTech works well in many areas with FTX Global then in some areas it gives bad results... For example around Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Kabul, Afghanistan terrain is quite fine with default landclass + FTX Global, however Scenerytech on the other hand uses some different texture that is quite dry looking with default textures but green with FTX Global, thus as a result with Scenerytech + FTX Global the very dry desertish terrain around these places turns very green which makes it look very unrealistic.

I did notice with FTXG that there is too much green.  The hills in the East Bay, after about early June are completely devoid any green.  In fact in almost all of California it seems nothing is green in the summertime.  Not a big deal and whether it can be fixed I don't know but FTXG is great either way.

They're working on that. It will be 'properly' fixed with their US land class in due course, but there is a 'quick fix' that will be out with ver1.1 in the meantime.

Might have to get me FTXG. Have done a lot of time in Scotland and NRM lately, and not ventured out to see any need.

Now that FS9 shoot is as good a screen shoot as any in this thread. Maybe not the sharpest but it is misty as it often is in reality. To my eye it is a very compelling view and looks almost real.

Thank you!

That was about what I was trying to say. With all this discussion about the finer points of this addon or that people seem to forget that in the end it is the feeling of reality that counts - the immersion factor. At least that is what it is for me.

And it is possible to achieve this even with FS9!

You just have to put in some effort to tweaking your own setups with addons, do some colour adjustment, add bloom and so on.

Do some config tweaks to make the most of your graphics setup.

There is a lot of information available on this in many orums, you don't even have to figure it out for yourself.

Just don't expect an addon to look like that out of the box - they will look wildly different dependingyour basic setup.

Each one will require tweaking, maybe even changing your rig's graphics configuration (that's what you get graphiic card utilities for) and some hours at least of your time to get it right!

I am surprised that some guys expect an addon to look like the developer screenshots right away - the developer screenshots just show what it is possible to achieve with a bit of effort! They should be kind of viewed as a benchmark.

I spent literally dozens of hours experimenting with my setup to achieve that look but I have not touched it in years basically.

So it is well worth the effort too.

Sascha

Here's one (typical) example for the city of Chihuahua, Mexico:

You might want to check your Anisotropic filtering... seems it's off completely...?

If the Orbx landclass that will support FXTG for North America will support this (having the California East Bay hills - not to mention the hills surrounding the California Central Valley - be brown/dry in the summer and fall, then green/wet in winter and spring) they've got a sale with me!  I fly Norcal photoscenery in the summer and fall due to the detail.  I... fly elsewhere... in the winter and spring.

The same applies to the Orbx Norcal regional release when it ships!...  I've been a'waiting....

How does FTX look like in SE Asia, ie Kuala Lumpur?

is the best to use FTX with GEX or OrbxopenLC?

You can NOT use FTXG with GEX because they do the exact same: it's one or the other. OpenLC from Orbx is a landclass addon for FTXG and will only work with FTXG.

Sorry i meant UTX.
