OOM error, no solution?

Featured Replies

I'm writing this topic for a member who already started one but in french, so he asked if I could post another one but in english.

He bought Mega scenery earth (almost the entire country) and started up at an airport, and got the out of mem error. He doesnt get this with other photo scenery such as France VFR ect.

My first advice was to have him defrag but he did that already so I asked him about his tweaks and said he had "Himemfix=1 et bufferpools=0" so I had him change his BP settings to =50000000 (read it in a forum and worked for me).

His specs: I4770 sur CM Gigabyte, 32 Go RAM, Nvidia 680 GTX, dernier pilotes à jour, Win 7 X64

Thanks for helping out

He probably shouldn't activate every state he has, because even if you don't fly there, it leaves some memory footprint.

Bufferpools tweak doesn't have anything to do with OOM's as far as I can tell, it just tells FSX to either buffer frames first or send them directly to the graphics card.

If he has a higher LOD_RADIUS value, it might help to lower that, or tell him to make the switch to DX10. There is an extensive How-to in the DX10 subsection on the AVSim forums.

DX10 has better memory handling and allows for more add-ons to be active.

Thanks ill pass on the message. btw, I know BP has nothing to do with OOMs however I did read in a forum post to switch the usepools number and it worked, so kinda strange.

Mark is correct.  You will definitely get an OOM if all MSE V2 scenery is activated.  He should download and run SceneryConfigEditor and activate only the scenery he will be flying over (he should not deactivate default scenery).

Jim

This 4 steps should solve OOM errors:

1.apply microsoft patch to increase heap limitation: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947246

2.Like Jim said, download SceneryConfigEditor and every time before you start FSX - use it to enable only scenery which will be used for next flight. That means 2-3 airports and maximum 2 continents. Disable all other scenery, especially photoscenery and other payware scenery

3.in fsx.CFG, set TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD to maximum 2048, never above

4.If you use REX, in REX options select DXT optimized textures where you can

P.S.In Windows 7 / 64bit, don't change default paging file, leave it to system managed

Set bufferpools to 0 and i got a better result. Everyone has different results of course.

LOD Radius of 6.5 works great too.

Never got an OOM with MSE and I have all states enabled and LOD-RADIUS on 8.0 too! My system is not as slick either. i5 at 3.6Ghz, 16Gb RAM GTX670 card.

What other add-ons does he have loaded at the same time?

agreed.

I have most mega scenery earth. and if I set the texture_max_load to 4096 it will nearly always oom.

If I keep it at 2048 then it will normally be ok.

Yikes!  I have a hard time believing this.  How many States do you have installed?  You can have 10-20 installed and FSX will run okay but not all of the States enabled.  I can replicate my problem 100% of the time with just 34 States enabled (only MSE V2 States are enabled plus a commercial departing/arriving airport).  I have my settings set exactly as recommended by the MegaSceneryEarth team.  Can you tell us how many States you have enabled?  I have seen in past posts you have made that you install a MSEV2 product when there is a problem to see if you can find a solution.  I really, really am having a hard time believing your post.

I have had them all installed at once. At the moment I have 40 there. Note these are installed over a couple of different drives (perhaps that makes a difference?)

When are you getting OOM errors? Is it just random or when you cross over a state border? Do you get any particular error message or log, and if so, what are the log details?

For the i7 4770 configuration, I like the following link - http://www.simforums.com/forums/gtx-780-settings-discussion-haswell-revealed_topic46112_page1.html.  Please note the various recommended Bufferpool settings.

I consider myself a computer expert but I will reactivate every MSE scenery and post the error message (doesn't an OOM mean you have run out of memory? Is there another message that says you have run out of memory?).

Activated all MSE States (40). Took about 15 minutes for fsx to load! No OOM but here is fsuipc.log showing free memory is very low.  I quit before any CTD.  As you can see my FPS were actually quite good.  I loaded FSDT KORD for a flight to KSTL.  Default weather loaded in the PMDG 737NGX.  If I do not activate all the MSE Scenery and activate only what I will be using for a particular flight, absolutely no problems.  My fsx settings are set as recommended by the MSE developers.  No tweaks.  My display driver settings are at the default for FSX.

Hmmm, hard to tell much from that, apart from it reporting your free memory as low. What is the cause? Does it give you this same or similar repeating low memory messages without the NGX aircraft selected? Say with a default plane?  And then what about with a default plane, and only a few MSE states activated? Just trying to narrow the possibilities here using a scientific method :)
