CYVR for FSX ok.

Featured Replies

I have CYVR, Vancouver+ V3, PNW, REX, FSGRW weather, UT2 at 100% commercial AI, and am usually in the NGX. All of my sliders are too the right and I get around 15-20 FPS, with occasional dips and gains so I've been anywhere from about 13-22. I run with v1.1 and use a combo of 4096 for the buildings, 2048 for the ground, and 1024 for the shadows. I should note that I use DX10 and have no OOM issues. This setup doesn't work in DX9 so if you're using that I would back off as needed. Hopefully Steve Parson's upcoming DX10 payware app set to be released in a few weeks will spur more movement to DX10 as you can run a lot more with it.

People, I am relating my personal experiences. It does appear the CYVR is the straw that is breaking the camel's back - at least for me. For those of you who are running it without problems - I am envious. I'm looking forward to the payware DX10 app.

It does appear the CYVR is the straw that is breaking the camel's back

Why is CYVR THE straw though? It isn't any one addon, it's a sum of what you have installed combined with your settings. If you had CYVR first and then bought FTX PNW or Vancouver+ and started getting more OOM's would it still be the CYVR scenery that caused it?

As for winter textures, I have to wonder.. Rain?

It would be if he figured that FTX PNW and Vancouver+ were more important than running CYVR. If I was to rate them in order of importance, first to last, they would be:

1. FTX PNW

2. Vancouver+

3. CYVR

Everyone is entitled to their own personal ratings, of course! <_<

Brief change of topic.....is Vancouver+ worth getting?

I use DX10 and the newer FSDT airports seem to give better FPS overall than a lot of other payware I have. 45-55 is average for me and that is with max textures. Although I do turn the autogen sliders down a notch because I run on NV surround. I have PNW installed as well but not Vancouver+

Sadly I'm reduced to DX9 at night until ORBX or someone else fixes their night lights(yes I know about deleting the lighting file but that also looks poor)

Anyways CYVR looks great at night too..

Not sure where you fly in the other places, but dont forget, its a similar area to the notorious Seattle area. A heck of a lot of coastlines, islands, and mountains in the nearby vicinity of CYVR. All that has to be processed and drawn.  Very hard on a system.

Seriously?  That's got nothing to do with it. It's not CYVR that causes the OOM's. Each addon we run in FSX plays it's part in adding to the VAS usage.

I find the default GPS consumes a huge chunk of memory.  I use FS Commander as my GPS (on a separate computer).  And DX10 of course.  No issues with CYVR with my add-ons (Traffic360, AccuFeel, MSE, REX, GSX, 9.5 LOD, GEX, 4096 textures, RealAir Duke and Turbine Duke) plenty of VAS available.

I have FSDT YVR, FTX PNW, Vancouver+ V3, FTXG and have NO problems.. Looks awesome and runs great. I run a custom AI setup from all of the freeware groups with traffic near full out. Do I get lower FPS in bad weather? Sure, but it's still flyable. When the weather gets bad I usually just lower my AI settings.  It's not perfect but it sure looks good and runs very well for being in one of the worst performing areas in FSX.

Hi Dave, you have the same GPU as me. As a matter of interest, what size memory do you have? I have 1500mb and am wondering, with my monitor, that runs at 2560x1600, whether it may be a bottleneck in my setup, which runs at 4.6ghz?

Hi Howard,

My 580 also has 1536mb of memory but I run FSX at 1920x1080. That increase in pixels may certainly be reason for a slight hit on performance but it shouldn't be limited to around the Vancouver area. Wish I could help more.

Thanks Dave, it really is a strange one. I'm wondering.... I'm going to reinstall once again and check for duplicate bgl's too...

I'm running that same resolution also, but I had no performance issues with my GTX680 4GB and my Titan 6GB.  It could be your 1.5GB VRAM is the problem as I have monitored and exceed 1.5GB usage (think I peeked at 1.8GB VRAM).

EDIT: I have duplicate CYVR and it does NOT cause a problem.

Hi, sure, I think you may be right. I've been thinking for some time that some extra memory in the GPU may help... Anyone want to buy a 12 month old GTX580?

I'm actually in the process of getting a GTX 770 within the next few days.. Not so much for FSX, but overall and BF4 coming soon. My Matrix 580 Platinum though is still an awesome card, I love it.
