CYVR for FSX ok.

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I have been looking at sceneries for some time to compliment the PMDG B777 when its released. I have a number of good ones already but would really like to get CYVR from FSDT and perhaps DFW.

My concern is that many seemed to have ad problems running it with more advanced aircraft, real world weather etc.

I am running an overclock of 4.26Ghz and run the B737NGX reasonably well at some pretty heavy FTX airports.

Am I likely to see worse performance than say FTX YMML or YBBN with an aircraft like the PMDG B737 for example. I don't have the FTX Canada scenery.

Interested in you opinion.

I dont have FTX YMML or YBBN, but I doubt it would be worse. Its all relative to what your running all at the same time and how CYVR is installed. The installation gives the option for a smaller footprint for texture sizes (personally didnt see any difference from the 4096 textures).  Also if your running all kinds of addons at the same time then you will probably get OOMs. That can happen at any airport, or scenery. Installing DX10 helps with a little additional wiggle room.

I have FTX PNW , and CYVR and dont get OOMs at all even in the NGX. As for FPS, I would pay more attention to the smoothness, but if you want numbers I usually get around 20 there with traffic, and sliders are a notch below max. This was a great addon from FSDT as is all of thier creations.

Well, FWIW, FSDT CYVR is the worst performing airport I have ever purchased. For some reason, which I can't get to the bottom of, I get continual graphical spiking when moving the slightest amount on an external view and frames are extremely low in the upper teens in some areas. These problems are apparent even in fair weather and I have tried every single possible way of easing things with zero impact. Before anyone asks, yes I did get the demo so yes it is my own fault. All textures are run at 1024 with AG set at normal with very average settings throughout the rest of my setup. Following on from what Dave said regarding YBBN and YMML from Orbx, yes I agree, both are very high hitters but from my point of view, I do not suffer from the graphical spiking that presumably comes from graphical overloading of the GPU. Also, out of the two, IMO YBBN is definitely worse than YMML. Anyway, you can always download a demo of CYVR and try it out.

Hi Dave and Howard, thanks for both you opinions, I am a little concerned over the performance of this airport.

I have seen quite a lot of posts from Howard over time around the FTX forums, can I assume you also have PNW installed and running at the same time?

Do you think this may be the issue?

I must admit I was unaware that there is a demo version to try, that may be the best option currently available.

One other thing, is this issue Howard is reporting also common to other FSDT sceneries such as LAX?

Hi Tim, sure, I have all Orbx sceneries and in particular fly a lot around the PNW area. It's a good point you make regarding the surrounding area and one that I have considered myself, but after testing with both PNW and PFJ disabled, I'm afarid the issue is still present. Regarding the other FSDT airports, I'm afraid, while I don't suffer with the awful graphical spiking, low performance is an issue, far more than any other airports I have installed, except for some of the large Aerosoft hubs, like CDG, Madrid, Barajas etc, which IMO are bit of a joke! As I say, these are just my own personal experiences...

CYVR with fs dreamteam, really take fsx into another world.  If you read their forums, their have been some issues, dealing most with memory.  I personaly have no problem with CYVR, on my current system.  Its not for everybody  You definitely will have to do some tweeking, but read their forum on how to install this addon

It's definitely easier on frames than ymml/ybbn. The problem with yvcr is weather. If you're running HD weather and flying in with the PMDG NGX, you may OOM.

So yes it's better on fps, but if you're running max sliders you may encounter problems with OOM. To the credit of FSDT, a patch was issued after release to reduce the textures loaded at CYVR.

CYVR is very nice, I loaded it up with 4096 textures.  Frame rates are very acceptable for my setup around 30 fps with a few dips into 25 fps (even with weather and lots of clouds and rain).  Keep in mind I'm running DX10 and 9.5 LOD with REX.

CYVR was very well done, now if I can just figure out why JFK V2 refused to display the entire airport??  Say's "ACTIVE but disabled", yet it is enabled?

Have some screen shots of CYVR here: http://www.robainscough.com/FSX_Scenery_-_BC__WA__OR.php

Dunno, I don't own it. I guess you may know my opinion though (sadly)

There is no way CYVR is worst performing airport. There is others a whole lot worse.  Howard you have practically the same hardware as I do and even overclocked to 4.6 ghz.

When i reinstalled my FSX clean, the first I did is install CYVR and had over 80 fps off the bat. When I added orbx pnw and the ngx along with some AI traffic, and partly cloudy its in the low to mid twenties. If overcast then around high teens to 20.

Be sure you have the update and dont use the highest textures. There isnt much difference.

If you say other airports are great, then your system is tweaked, then just disable pnw, with no AI no road traffic, and go bare minimum on your sliders and see what you get. If your still getting bad frames, you have something seriously wrong with your system. If its good, then slowly bring everything up a bit at a time.

DX10 makes  a difference too.

As Rob pointed out, there is tips o the FSDT forums. Reinstall it clean and use lower textures. Its a beautiful airport and surrounding area and im not just saying that cause I live nearby, its just really well done as well as KLAX. DFW seems good to although I just have the trial on that one.

CYVR certainly runs superb using DX10. If you keep away from HD clouds it helps a lot. Not sure why people use HD clouds. Ok for screen shots, but for general use, a total waste of time. I run my clouds at 1024 using FEX, and performance is great.

I do have REX, but stopped using it, as I found FEX clouds more realistic and performance enhanced. I have all the FSDT airports, and no issues, and no OOM's.

Howard, as Dave mentioned, there is something wrong with your set up ? Might be a good idea to pop into the DX10 forum and get PJ to have a look at your configuration. I know he won't mind looking at it.

FSDT CYVR works well here too. I fly there with PMDG MD11 mostly, and i have 30fps(locked at 30)all the time. With NGX and Maddog there is a fps drop only in bad cloudy weather. But that is only a couple of fps, and FSX is still smooth. I use 2048 textures.

p.s. - BTW, i usually fly there from Europe, and no OOM's

CYVR runs fine on my setup, the key is to run the update, which is located on their forum, using 737ngx PMDG, I get about18-20 frames, but smooth, that's with UT2 65% traffic, autogen, on dense, using rex2 Essential Plus, UTX,GEX, a lot of info on their forum on how to avoid OOM'S,

Hi Dave, mmm, I have done a clean reinstall twice now and run everything at low textures. I have to add that it's not the performance so much as the graphical spiking that is the issue. In fact frame wise, what you have reported is more or less my own experience...

Thanks Dave. I'm going to revisit this airport and do some further tests. Cheers...
