August 24, 201312 yr Ignorant generalism in my opinion. This may come as a surprise to you, but a lot of people don't fly in the US...... PS... The phrase is couldn't care less not 'could care less', as was recently proven by one of the AVSIM staff linking to a US University piece on how the phrase has become so misquoted. I love the US and I even fly there a lot in FSX, but in my opinion it's comments like yours that cause some people to misundrstand Americans as selfish ignorant and lacking in any interest of the world outside of the US. Just 2c. Notice I also said mainland European regions (Germany would be cool), not just the US. But I did mention the US because there hasn't been a mainland US region in 3 years from Orbx nor any other comparable regional scenery products. Meanwhile we've been getting European regions for the last 3 years piece meal. There are several VFR European projects from other developers as well. There's even a freeware project for all of Norway that is great quality. Europe is much more overdone then the US. Europeans have no room to complain considering the vast majority of scenery and airport addons are in Europe and not in the US. It's not like we've been hogging all the good stuff while Europe gets looked over. There are literally hundreds of quality payware airports for Europe vs a few dozen at best in the US. Go take a look at Aerosoft's site. You can buy a good quality payware airport for almost every major city in the EU and many smallers ones. In the US we've got 3 airports from Flightbeam, a half dozen from Flytampa, a half dozen from FSdreamteam, and a couple of LatinVFR and Tropicalsim offerings. Everything else is freeware quality (not going to mention names of developers but people know who). So forgive me for wanting the US to get a little more attention. And it's not just about the mainland US. There's a reason their Canadian/Alaskan regions sell so well. They are simply interesting places to fly with a ton of varied scnery and challenging approaches. Likewise, I expect Norway to do well for the same reason. It's a large interesting area to fly in. Nothing to do with US arrogance. It's about what has wide appeal and what doesn't. A small segment of Ireland just doesn't, which is why a majority in this thread are skipping it.
August 24, 201312 yr +1 Maybe people should back off on the insults in there comments like calling people ignorant based on their opinions. Every one is entitled to one!
August 24, 201312 yr Skipping it too, agree with most of the things said already. Surprised by Orbx business strategy although of it was half the price , I wouldn't buy it. I really think the regions will suffer after global release, especially regions like NI. I guess they can justify it buy putting cheaper and or less resources into making it so the price and low sales can be justified. -Iain Watson-

Southern Alaska was released in March, was that 3 years ago??? I'm losing track of time!
August 25, 201312 yr The first UK product was released in November 2012, has 3 years passed already?? Southern Alaska was released in March, was that 3 years ago??? I'm losing track of time! I said mainland US because I meant the lower 48. And yes, should of said 1 1/2 years instead of 3 regarding England. You got me. My Point still stands on the availability of European addons. And just to further stress it, this isn't about just Europe vs. the US. Australia is actually my favorite place to fly, not the US. If Orbx made a small southern Alabama region that would probably not sell great either. Same way I feel about Northern Ireland. Larger regions with wider appeal and variety make more sense to me.
August 25, 201312 yr should of said 1 1/2 years instead of 3 regarding England It's even less: 8 1/2 months! ^_^ Anyway, hopefully Orbx will be done with those smallish regions after Ireland. Southern Norway is more like the old regions when it comes to size. I hope the EU team will do a good job on it... From what I've heard Scotland is great so that's good to know because that shows they apparently CAN do it, but still.... I'd rather had the original 'PNW team' working on it...
August 25, 201312 yr I don't understand , Why would anyone spend money and buy additional ORBX products when its in single ORBX Global .
August 25, 201312 yr Em, because they are not the same thing? It's not difficult to work out. If your country was released as a region, would you skip it since you have global? -Iain Watson-
August 25, 201312 yr I don't understand , Why would anyone spend money and buy additional ORBX products when its in single ORBX Global . OrbX Regions are not the same as OrbX Global. The regions are much closer to real life. Landscape, cities, objects, autogen are all handplaced and created for the specific region. Global is a generic product covering the world with textures. The keyword here is "Generic". Regards, Frank van der Werff

They could have added that region in there global product. Well worth the 99$ rather charging separately on other product.
August 25, 201312 yr They could have added that region in there global product. Well worth the 99$ rather charging separately on other product. Way to much work. On average the creation of a single region takes OrbX 6 to 9 months... Now with Ireland they obviously rushed the job and didn't pay the usual attention to detail. The better regions (NZ, PNW, PFJ, SAK) can never be compared to Global on its own. Regards, Frank van der Werff
August 25, 201312 yr They could have added that region in there global product. Well worth the 99$ rather charging separately on other product. Seriously...? That's the same as saying PMDG could have added all their planes to the J41 or The Beatles could have added all their albums to Abbey Road or Adobe could have added all their software to Acrobat...
August 25, 201312 yr They could have added that region in there global product. Well worth the 99$ rather charging separately on other product. You need the following to display the scenery correctly in FSX: 1) High resolution terrain mesh 2) Accurate Landclass 3) Accurate Vector data (road, river, railway, utilities line, shoreline...) 4) Ground texture with custom autogen objects The FTX Global only includes the item no. 4, with some bonus landclass upgrade in some small region (Baltic & SE Asia) ORBX region combines all 4 items in one product (except this time Northern Ireland not include the Terrain mesh), plus upgraded airports and some POI.

I hope the EU team will do a good job on I think they know the UK strategy isn't the way to go moving forward or at least I hope they do. I bet the whole UK becomes a discounted combo pack pretty quickly like Australia is. With Norway coming and NC it appears to be a return to their old practices.
August 25, 201312 yr I don't understand , Why would anyone spend money and buy additional ORBX products when its in single ORBX Global . this is the difficulty Orbx now faces. even with all the explanations about what Global is and is not and how it is not anywhere near the full fat region packs you still get comments like this.
