Not buying this very small region for that price.

No thanks. Unless Orbx do a "deal" and make all of Ireland a price like there ENG.

Hi Dave, sure I agree. I'd probably buy the whole of Ireland, but not just the north, besides, I prefer the southern Irish accent!

Let me clear a few things up here... ^_^

No, it won't improve the whole area, meaning NI, because OpenLC won't have an effect in FTX regions. It will only have an effect with FTX Global.

FTXG has no mesh!

However, it does make flying near the borders of FTX regions more fun. I always tried to stay away from the border when I was fying in PNW or when I flew in England near Wales, but now you hardly notice it when you reach the virtual border. Of course this alone isn't worth the 90 bucks. I have to say that FTXG did make me fly in other parts of the world, which IS nice!

Very true. In the beginning there only was AU and 'everybody' bought it: I also bought two AU regions. But when PNW was released I moved there and I never ever flew down under anymore... So yes, the more regions they make, the more choice you get and the less people may buy everything: they will wait for only those regions the really dig. I now use FTXG for parts of the world where I maybe would have bought a region for if FTXG hadn't been there. Releasing FTXG really changed how I look at regions.

No, it doesn't. FTXG does NOTHING with FTX regions. It doesn't upgrade trees or lights and it doesn't add flavor or anything. They are completely seperate. (Hybrid does make them all work together but at a (small) cost so you could even say FTXG hybrid REDUCES the quality of regions, which is the opposite of making it better ^_^ )

Thanks, that does clear a lot of things up. I remain on a learning curve!

So if I, say, tick Hybrid, ORBX trees and Vector Lights _off_ and switch to PNW instead of leaving it at Global, I'll get better results in the region, as long as I'm not near a regional border?

Give it a year and they'll be a UK bundle I bet.

I said the comment was ignorant, not the person ........ there's a big difference, so maybe you should lay off mis-quoting people...

Yea thanks for pointing that out to me. I should have known better. Everyone should know by now you are superior and never wrong.

To experience a region to the fullest possible you have to enable that region. There is no need to untick options you have ticked with FTXG. When you get near the border or even fly outside of the region you will see FTXG textures and things may look good but a few things will be odd or wrong but maybe you won't even notice it.

With hybrid mode FTXG itself will look okay but the regions will have a few things wrong. But again, maybe you won't even notice it.

So of you only fly in regions, enable regions, If you only fly in FTXG, enable FTXG default and if you frequently fly in and out of regions you should enable FTX default with hybrid mode.

Which is one of the reasons I removed FTXG from my system.

as opposed to just unticking the box marked "hybrid" ?  you can still have FTXG installed without impacting the other regions at all if the Hybrid box isn't checked.  the hybrid option is just there for the folks who either want to fly between Orbx areas and default, or don't want to be bothered with having to constantly switch ftx central all the time (me)  it's not a requirement.

Well, I do fly 99% of the time in the PNW. The other 1% is spent in areas that looked better with GEX so FTXG wasn't needed at all. Please note that this will almost certainly change once Orbx releases the openLC for North America.

So, has any ORBx forum member pointed out the terrain mesh anomalies to the team yet?

The product comes without mesh so any anomalies you see are default mesh anomalies... not much use in asking Orbx to fix it. Although of course the product really should have come with mesh...

There were a couple of problems with raised rivers and plateaued hills, but those were fixed some time ago with a hotfix from Paul (only a couple of days after release).

What problems are you seeing in particular, Christopher?

Cheers

Where do I get this hotfix? I have no intention of joining the ORBx forums, so it needs to be available somewhere else.

The problems that I have noticed are a big "ridge" of terrain to the north east of EGAA Belfast Aldergrove (which has buildings rising up steep slopes, and others hanging over the edge of cliffs), and also a couple of big, raised "ridges" in the hills south of Londonderry. There could be more elsewhere, but I haven't had the time to go exploring yet.
