Orbx Northern Ireland Released

Regarding the mesh, I find the explanation that they couldn't find source data hard to swallow...FSGenesis sells mesh that covers Northern Ireland, I doubt that they just made up all of their mesh for the area. Surely there must be a source out there.

Well, whatever the case, it makes the deal less sweet, because custom mesh has hitherto been absolutely part of the deal when it comes to FTX regions. +1 on FS Genesis btw, plus others.

(...) And without mesh, not too many POI's, small size, not cheap... (...)

On the ORBX forums, people enquired about only four specific POIs - ORBX "managed" not to model three of them: Harland and Wolf cranes, Kilroot power station.

Missing three out of a bazillion happens easily; but missing three out of the four "most wanted"?!?

What happened to AVSIM

Sounds like a rush job to me. Maybe they will add extra POIs at a later date. You know, a bit like the FTXG uninstaller

OMG I made a spelling mistake. Shot me!

Haven't they been farming some of these regions out to sub developers, including Ireland? The quality has been varying a lot between the latest releases the past two years.

England was lackluster (and small compared to older regions) but SAK was amazing. Different developers made them I think so that explains the quality difference.

I think when you can get all of Australia for $45 (and it's awesome) or $22 for PNW or even $32 for a brilliant region like SAK, paying a premium for a tiny region lacking much detail isn't going to sit well.

I agree the entire UK release has been flubbed somewhat. They should of just made a single UK region, released it at once for top dollar, and made everyone happy. Why break it up so much when older regions were bigger and more detailed then all these UK regions put together? At worse they should of done a UK North and South.

Splitting Ireland up into two regions is just dumb when compared to the size and scope of past regions.

And while I'm opining, some of the places they are modeling simply aren't the best choice for wide appeal. No offense to Ireland, but most people could care less about flying there. You've had people scrambling for years for a Lower Rockies region, a North Eastern US region, and some mainland European regions. Instead they've spent two years putting out the UK in bits and pieces.

FSX's lifespan is only going to last so long (let's say 5 more years of current level use and that's being generous). If they don't start making some large regions with mass appeal like they use to (PNW for example) they are gonna miss their best business opportunities before FSX dies off pushing out regions like NI instead of places that would sell really well.

I do respect Orbx for making an about face on their airport strategy though and going with large regional airports instead of a stream of overpriced GA airports. That was a good move.

As much as I love most of their scenery, I'm going to pass on this one as I did Wales. And no mesh??? So we buy Ireland in at least two parts which will be $60+, which is still smaller than even England. I'm losing faith.

Mmmm....did someone say cashflow. Smacks of a shortage of same...money, money, money makes the world go round. With apologies to Abba.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

I've been a loyal OrbX customer since the release of the first AU region, buying lots of their products. But the way they are now handling the UK and Ireland, they are losing me as a customer. NI feels like an intensely rushed job and their excuse for not including mesh is just plain b....... I think they just could not find a cheap mesh source and at the same time underestimated its importance. By the way.... Guess no one dares to post these complaints directly in the OrbX forum. You'll get banned for sure  :P

Ignorant generalism in my opinion.    This may come as a surprise to you, but a lot of people don't fly in the US......

PS... The phrase is couldn't care less not 'could care less', as was recently proven by one of the AVSIM staff linking to a US University piece on how the phrase has become so misquoted.

I love the US and I even fly there a lot in FSX, but in my opinion it's comments like yours that cause some people to misundrstand Americans as selfish ignorant and lacking in any interest of the world outside of the US.     Just 2c.

Yes! Finally my home scenary and ORBX too- my life is complete, time to part with some money

Yep! I'm loving NIR. Recent flight from Cardiff to Belfast City was amazing.

Keep up the good work orbx, looking forward to rep of Ireland.

+1 to this.

Definitely going to give this a miss, just because it's such a small reason, and Orbx sceneries for the UK (except Scotland) are getting worse and far less value for money than the US and AUS/NZ regions. Getting greedy and lazy IMO.

That's what happens to all cutting edge company's. They cash in on their reputation!

I agree with Frank regarding the mesh. I reckon that they couldn't find a source cheap enough to be financially viable for a region that they presumably do not expect to fly off the shelves. Very disappointing, considering that this would have been the perfect opportunity for me to check out my first ORBx FTX product. I could still purchase it of course, but the default mesh resolution in FSX is too low for my requirements, and that alone has made me hesitate to give the credit card some air
